Yes you’re right, I was wondering why the Estrella had 4’6% abv, because in my memory it had 5’4% abv. But now I know where the difference comes from. Thank you for explaining it.
I used to visit Spanish friends in Barcelona and Madrid regularly in the 80's. Never heard of Madri until recently, but am going to try it. Have always drunk Estrella in Spain and always preferred over San Miguel. No doubt things have changed since 40 years ago but in Madrid it was normal to order 'una caňa' in the bar. Plaza de Santa Anna was the place to go. Barcelona was crazy (in a good way) stylish bars drinking Estrella and partying all night smoking Ducardos (not now of course). I think the Spanish were still celebrating the death of Franco and having a good time. Sorry for the long comment, but full of great memories. Hasta luego!
I've tried Madri and thought it inoffensive and ok. But I'm not about paying over the odds for a flash in the pan brand. The marketing for it is better than the product I'd say , it's everywhere. I'd rather have staropramen or a blonde beer 🍻
Why not just market Madri as an English lager? Why the need to pretend the beer is continental. Just be honest and people might not be so harsh in their critisism of the drink.
It's dishonesty. The beer industry is a dishonest one. Look at all those boxes of Stella in our supermarkets with "Belgium" stamped all over them. They trick us into buying beer and this video proves the best thing about Madri is it's marketing. Simon thought it was from Madrid, not even Spain but Madrid! The launch advert even used the famous Middle Eastern drum beat known as Ayoub to reflect the influence of the Moors in Spain because enough people in the UK know the link. They fiddle us like violins.
because it contradicts the rules of marketing. It was created to remind people of the continental lagers they had while spending their holiday in the sun. British/English lager? It wouldn't stand a chance plus it would compete with Carling which doesn't make sense.
Because 'most' consumers here are stupid and the brewing conglomerates know it! Give it a continental type name and it will sell. Maybe a few of these small brewery UK lagers will sell, if you double the price and give it a poncy English name? Even Carling, sounded a bit exotic when first introduced here from Canada, decades ago.
Don,t matter where its brewed as long as its tasty , some people are just beer snobs , you can only be honest with yourself , Madri in my opinion is a good beer! 🍺
I do agree with you. Whilst I have definite reservations over U.K.-produced ‘Euro lager’, Madri, the most inauthentic lager ever, is pretty decent, I think.
I know what you mean about the "earthiness" of Madri. Last time I drank it, it tasted like dirt. It loses it's carbonation fast too. It has potential, but the dirty flavour comes through too much for it to be refreshing, and when it goes flat it's just unacceptable. Love me some Estrella though.
Personally my favourite Spanish lager is Estrella Galicia which is a completely different company to the Barcelona one, I find that's got a good malty taste as well as being really refreshing. Another good video mate, enjoying this series a lot keep it up, cheers 🍻
I didn't realise they were different companies, I just assumed it was just a different version from the same brewery. You learn something new every day.
I had both Estrella Galicia and Estrella Damm last night. I would say Estrella Galicia was the nicer of the two just a little over carbonated for me. Estrella Damm was smoother but there's something off about the flavour that I didn't like much edging on a sink pour.
If you're in Spain the number one macro beer is now Estrella Galicia...having tasted San Mig, Cruzcampo, Mahou, Alhambra...etc. I would say Estrella Galicia and Alhambra are the best...good chilled served in a frosted glass from the freezer on a scorching day...

Good review am enjoying the comparison taste tests. Madri not a fan of it had it a couple of times, left a bad aftertaste Estrella not a bad lager for a hot summers day
Madri is a typical UK brewed lager along with Fosters, Carling etc I have to avoid these as they use bad brewing practices such as adding isinglass finings. So are not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
The Madri brand is owned by Molson Coors, this huge brewing concern are trying to cash in on the "Craft Lager" bandwagon by pushing this as a craft lager. Madri is on sale everywhere and everywhere it is on sale it's over priced for what it is, my local charges £4.50 for a pint of the stuff.
Everyone is different but much prefer estrella damm to Madri. Must be that clean crisp flavour that I like. Ordered a pint of madri once and couldn't even finish it. Tasted like muck. Or earthy as some might say. ;)

When are you going to do Super Bock? Not Spanish I know, but AFAIK it's actually imported from Portugal and not brewed here in the UK. Of all the European, non German, lagers, I like it best.
Tried both, Estrella seems better but everyone has their own opinion. I've just been to ALDO Marston's Pedigree brown 500ml bottle £1.75, not many place sell it but it's better on draught. Whilst there I got 10 250ml Brasserie French pilsner. Not being funny but Steinhausser and Brasserie, if they sold in on draft, well.....
Madri is actually ok, pretty mainstream but like you said ina previous review, it’s very drinkable. I must say I prefer Estrella but only because it’s brewed in Spain, you can almost imagine being in Spain and downing one on a hot day but I suppose the same goes for the Madri, it’s not Spanish but it hits the spot.
I'd avoided the Madri as the bloke on the label looks like Eric Cantona, and I've always enjoyed Estrella Damm as a really light larger on a hot day, but I will give the Madri a go.
OK I tried this today - 650ml bottle, and I was amazed at how gassy it was and the amount of lacing on the glass. Did a few belches after that one! To show how much this channel shapes lives I also tried Steinhauser from Aldi which was lovely. Also tried Estrella Galicia based on another comment here and I think I prefer that to the Madri.

I was trying to wipe your lip by swiping across the screen.
Madri is 💩
Like you said Madri has that awful UK lager taste, I personally think it's something to do with the yeast not the water.
Is all Estrella brewed in the UK brewed in Spain?
Spanish fosters
Basically is a stream process beer (madri) a darker malt uk hofmiester
I take it Inedit is too highbrow for this comparison.
Love both beers. Madri is definitely a posh n slightly stronger version of carling in my opinion, but hasn't got that nasty farty aroma. Enjoying the vids lad 🍺
What made you think Madri was Spanish? It's not Spanish at all. Like saying Punk IPA is Spanish.
Simon I’m from Burton and trust me molson coors hasn’t worked hard on anything I could tell you a story or 2 there I’ll tell ya and i respect your option we all have different tastes but I used to work there they will produce any old rubbish madri is a poor man’s carling if not worse but as I say each there own I guess 🤷♂️
Why the hell do the keep reducing the abv for uk and ireland. Maybe its because we are sauce merchants.
Madri is a terrible beer, too sweet and aftertaste falls off a cliff
Madri is too sweet and malty for me, Estrella Damm beats it all day long for my taste
Fart like an octopus after 4 pack of madri 💨
Molson Coors pointlessly fine Madri with isinglass though
