    Appetite was lightning in a bottle, the lifestyle of down and out LA combined with punk, hard rock, and a great sense of melody, played by passionate musicians.

      Well said y’all. I was pretty young back then, but the impact they actually had on music back then is hard to imagine unless you were there and actually witnessed it to some degree. I don’t see a band having that kind of impact ever again. When you hear “they were the biggest band in the world”, it was no joke. All of a sudden, all the Hollywood bands start copying their look, MTV started playing their videos like countless times each day, Hollywood movies were using their music for their soundtracks, despite controversy in the media they started playing with other incredibly huge artists, the list goes on. And you can argue they sold out with the UYI albums, but I got the feeling they never lost that sense of exactly who they were…well, Axl may have changed a bit, but the rest were very much what you see is what you get kind of people, and none of them certainly ever apologized for it. They did things their way and that is why I love them!

      I’m not talking about the actual performances, but, UYI just doesn’t SOUND right by comparison.

    One of my favorite albums of all time and should I say the "Best Rock Album" of the late 80's. On the side note, It's surprising that the guitar used by Slash on the record is a "Fake" Gibson or a "copy" of the Original 1959 Gibson Les Paul. Slash's guitar is made by the legendary luthier Kris Derrig and not from the Gibson company.🔥the album that sold 100 million plus copies is played on a fake LesPaul that has a Gibson logo.🤭😂 That's inspiring, I will cherish and setup my Beautiful 1959 Chibson Les Paul. I know people who are always on the lookout for the "holy grail" instrument and buying $10,000+ guitars (Gibson and Fender) thinking it would make their playing better or their sound cooler. But It's not actually the gear - it's the player and the songwriting that really matters. I'm really inspired by the Slash Fake Gibson LesPaul story, the Jimmy Page copy or the Brian May homemade guitar. Cheers!👌💯

    To expand on that Jackson Slash used first. Mike Clink said in an interview that slash came in to record with the Jackson but there were old strings on it. So Slash just cut off all the strings at once on the guitar and that messed it up so it wouldn’t stay in tune anymore.

    • @David-wf4wc
      @David-wf4wc 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If it had strings on springs, it was never that stable to begin with. No matter what the advertising says. Depending on the audience or expectation, a trem guitar will have you in the ballpark if not in the infield on a good one. But it won't be dead nuts for long. Having to tune and retune every take, it would become a stress and easier to just go for hardtail if your style doesn't require the trem stuff. Cutting the strings wasn't the main reason that guitar wasn't going to work.

Quite a few incidents graphically detailed, with him jonesing because somebody had stolen his secret stash, and the band almost having to cancel a milestone-level important gig, and somebody dying on him, and him almost dying on somebody else, and what not. Some people have said that he's not entirely honest in the book, passing the blame on the OD death of a friend to somebody else, but it's worth a read. Duff's autobio, too. Very informative stuff.

    Most sold debut ever in 1995 was Ace Of Base “Happy nation” - stated by Guinness Book of World records in 1995.
    So at the time, it couldn’t have been Appetite.
    But maybe it has sold more since 1995.

    • @mixingmasteringonline
      @mixingmasteringonline  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don’t think I ‘Happy Nation’ would even be in the top ten. ‘Appetite’ has sold 9 million more copies than it.

    • @1st2mind
      @1st2mind 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes but that must be when the albums they have sold since 1995 are counted in.
      Appetite has shurely remained a way more popular album in the years that followed.
      But still in 1995 Guiness book of World Records recognized Happy Nation as the best selling debut album of all time - at least at that time.
      Would be strange if Guiness made such a mistake back in 1995✌🏼🤓

    • @mixingmasteringonline
      @mixingmasteringonline  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Why is 1995 relevant ? Leroy Burrell had the 100m world record in 1995 but nobody posts comments contesting Usain Bolts’s current 100m world record.

      I wouldn’t say it’s “relevant”😄
      None of this really is😄
      It’s just another fun fact about the story. That it seems it has become the best selling debut album over time.
      That is actually kind of a quality. That it keeps selling years and years after it was released unlike other albums that might have sold better in the 90s✌🏼

    Are you sure Steven used a black beauty? I’m obsessed with his appetite snare tone, and for the longest time I thought he used the 1920s nickel over brass snare that sold on the auction.

    The talent was there but in the beginning something was missing. The sells didn’t took off until the boss of Geffen Records understood that the best decision was to make a video so they can sell the image of the band to all the young people at the time .
