Thank you two for a very honest and fair comparison. My brothers went to Cal, and I went UCLA with two summer sessions at Cal. My daughter is currently attending UCLA, which now offers guaranteed dorm for 4 years. 🎉Yipee~
I grew up in OC, went to Cal (Go Bears!) and came out a hippie. My husband and I met at the engineering orientation our 1st year. 30 years later, my son just got accepted to Cal and UCLA. Cal vs UCLA. My heart wants him to go to UCLA because I’m back in OC. The costs is unbelievable nowadays, but the cost of UCs is still so much cheaper than IVYs or privates. I went to Cal but my high school classmate went to UCSD. Then we went to SUNY Optometry school in Manhattan. Now we are back here in SolCal. I’m in Fullerton(OC)and she is in Santa Monica(LA). Currently, both of us own our own private practices. She was happy in UCSD and I loved Cal. So congrats to getting into any UCs. In the end, college life will be what you make of it no matter where you choose to go.
@@mq1469 the schools are the same bro 💀 I got into both UCLA is better all around if u include academics, social life, location etc. Berkeley is great though. Just not right for most people. Also I’d say both schools are pretty nerdy. I mean uclas acceptance rate this year was sub 10. These kids are smart
@@mr.google9248 I got into both too... Did you really base your opinion on acceptance rate? I based mine on rankings, prestige, and recognition in academia. It's best if you go to UCLA.
I was accepeted in both for a PhD sandwich program and I went to UCLA. The academics there is super high, I really enjoyed my research time there at UCLA.
Engineering is definitely a focus at Cal. However we were told Cal engineers come out with too much focus on academics they are pigeonholed into designing needs. UCLA would be more well balanced with more social skills t market products after the design. Is it true lots of SC firms support clubs that promote engineering designs ? Cal has more government funding for research while UCLa has private funding?
If UCLA is easier than UC Berkeley, it is better to go to Berkeley since HR will hire the more motivated student at UC Berkeley. When I was at USC as a graduate student, I just don't have time to socialize at USC.
Karen, the thing about which you need to be concerned with respect to the video is how it has aged. Currently, UCB is having a huge housing crisis because of city ordinances, but they did work around the problem for 2022 by admitting a lot of spring admits, but it's something the University has to address even more in-depth in the future. Additionally, since you made this video, UCLA has become a tad harder to which to gain entry. The last time which was 2020 when UC used the ACT/SAT -- now it's test-blind of course, UCLA caught UCB in average scores, but UCLA started to pull ahead with respect to incoming-student grades. For the class entering in 2021 according to each campus's Common Data Sets, the average UCLA enrollee had a 3.92 unweighted gpa in high school, with 55.4% who had straight-A 4.00 gpas. For UCB, it was 3.867 and 33.0%. For transfers, UCLA's incoming average was 3.85, and for UCB it was lower, but I'm not sure how much. I agree that UCB has more competition because UCLA is a bit more preprofessional and even more collaborative as Jordy stated, with more of the latter's students who go to L- or M-school. So some are looking for easier majors to preserve their gpas: Sociology and Polisci (not really easy in anyway) for L; and less rigorous life sciences -- Physiological Sciences instead of Computational Biology or Biochem for M. But the video was nonetheless entertaining; I enjoyed it.
Hands down Berkeley for academic rigor and toughness. Grad work at UCLA is average in Engineering not as rigorous for a top rated school. I found grad classes at Rutgers NJ were more rigorous in Engineering. Berkeley is a whole another game.
Engineering is hard regardless. Which school would offer more exposure to research and practical applications? Would most Cal graduates end up working in Bay Area while ucla graduates work in southern CA or nationwide ?
If you wanna have fun and chill a bit go to ucsd, if wanna have great job opportunities after college and are willing to sacrifice some sanity go to berkeley.
You need a car for UCLA..going to Irvine, SGV and K-town is NOT convienient...DTLA is junk..either you have a car or need to know somebody..and what the hell is a college student gonna do in BH..GO Bears ATW..go to Cal for college culture.
Funny you don’t mention Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Venice Beach, West Hollywood, Manhattan Beach, Bel Air, Westwood, Brentwood, etc. All of that outweighs the East Bay.
@@legacyjeetkunedo492: The UCLA campus and surrounding neighborhoods are magical. Nowhere like it anywhere in the world. Berkeley is nice, but the rest of the East Bay is snoozefest. SF is cool.
@@KarenSupandi Congrats both and a very nice video! You are correct on academic rigor. No offense to your brother, it is still a great achievement.I was a grad student many years ago at UCLA myself. The thing about Berkeley is that the locations nearby are unsafe and filled with homelessness. SF has been trashed, Oakland is ghetto, and San Jose is the most boring place on earth.
Um saying Oakland is ghetto is a very questionable and racially insensitive thing to say😬. That word has racist and classist undertones if you didn't know, especially when used against BIPOC people and neighborhoods.

Just got off the waitlist at UCLA!
woah ucla and berkely’s mascot are both bears :000 how have i never realized this-
wait.....a bruins a bear right,,,?
Look at the history, UCLA started as Cal South campus. So they adopted Bruin for a mascot, like a little brother to Cal...
Thanks for this video. Was confused btw UCLA and UCB. In this new time it's really difficult to choose a college and GET ADMISSION (cuz of no SAT).
Thanks for tipping me towards Berkeley :)
UCLA has the cooler vibe. UC Berkeley is more nerdy.

How hard is Berkeley Engineering compared to UCLA Engineeeing? Kinda scared that I’d fail in Berkeley
Cal engineering is one of the best in the world. Cant say the same for ucla
