4 of July 2010, at the end of the 15th Polish Championships in Gliders Acrobatics, great performance by multiple world champion and winner of this event, Jerzy Makula.
As a pilot certified in this type of flying in sailplanes, I can only tell you that I have nothing but the deepest respect for this man and his skills. I only wish.....
Such beautiful flying ("Talent is overrated; there's just endless practice) and he still has to push his own glider after landing. Bravo from New Zealand.
Nice flying, filming and editing. I especially loved that you left in the original sounds and did not drown them out with some boring music. That's how it should be done! Thumbs up!
Up to whatever the airframe is certified to. The glider in the film is a Solo Fox (+9g/-6g). It's older brother Swift S-1 is certified to +10g/-7.5g. One of the certification requirements was to put an accelerometer in front of the pilot. Supposedly the bird is so easy on the controls that there is a real risk of over-stressing the airframe.
If you think you love flying then it's to your benefit to take the first flight in a glider, that teaches you the aerodynamics of flight (the feel of it), and it teaches you to appreciate altitude and the management thereof. Once you can comfortably manage altitude and land a glider then flying under power is simply an added benefit. it makes you a better pilot under power. After 53 years of flying my greatest joy still comes from flying a glider, and a piper cub.
It is an aerobatic glider. Certified to +10g/ -7.5g. 10g is on the extreme side, but in general, many gliders are certified to fly high g maneuvers, they often fly in turbulence most other aircraft had better avoid.

Man, there ain't enough barf-bags in the known universe to take care of what would happen if he were to be foolish enough to take me as a passenger on that ride! Stunningly beautiful! A true maestro of stick & rudder! (Glad no one told him that stuff simply can't be done in a sailplane.)
Great acrobatics. How do you know when the plane is near to its estructural limits? We dont want a wing break in the air ... I noted too that glider has the tail in X and not in T , is better this for acrobatics? Thanks . And good flight.
well...he looks hot! and a little surprised at the Gs he's pulling....it's hard to discern what maneuvers are being flown without power! very cool; i'll need to watch it a couple more times!
Fantastic Video. Do only one question.... as you have recorded sequences from the back of the plane? I would like you to update a photo of the system to be able to see it. Thank you
Some gliders can go for thousands of kilometres, in New Zealand Terry Delore and John Kokshoorn flew for 15 hours covering 2501 kilometres, as long as the lift is there flight time is unlimited. The ASW 22 has a glide ratio of about 60, that means for every 60 meters in forward travel you lose 1 meter in height, approx don't hold me to it I'm no expert I only fly scale model gliders. Hope this helped. Cheers
How long and how far could you go with a glider before you actually have to land? I dont know much about flying but if he is gliding wouldnt that mean he is kind of slowly descending in the air?
Denis, I can see that gliding is serious business. That guy did a perfect job. He has way more guts that I do. I suppose YOU would like to do that though? I enjoyed the film. Thanks, MOM
It's all about energy management. But he is released from the towplane and loses height gradually as he does the aerobatics, after all he is only up 6 minutes. Gliders when not doing aerobatics can use thermals (rising air) to turn in and thus they climb, by doing this flights in excess of 8 hours and 1000km are not uncommon in good parts of the world.
the sound track is way kool... i gotta wonder if thats hard on the wings tho..it sure as hell isnt easy on them.. u can tell he gets a big headrush each time he pulls 5 gs maybe more

I love flying gliders, and have just been cleared for aerobatics today. I feel however that the aerobatics this man does, are far too jerky. In my personal opinion in a glider they should be made to look smooth and graceful. If you want aerobatics like that, get an Extra?

I am in awe of this pilot.
I love the way it goes quite on the stall manouver.
Grate pilot from Poland!!!
Congratulations!!!

totally amazing is onreal thaa is the most beautiful acrobatics I have ever seen ...thank you for sharing
best soaring video ever! loved the sounds!

Amazing performance! Nice flying and nice filmed and editing.
Wow! And very nicely filmed!
Oh WOW! I had an introductory glider flying lesson today, it was awesome, but this is just beyond amazing at what people can do!
5 stars! Great cut and cam combination.
That is a very very cool video. Well produced and edited using several cameras. I cant say enough !!!
Czapka z Głowy - nie ma to jak polski szybownik
Pozdrawiam!.
Amazing flight, wonderful. Congratulations to the Champion. Bravisimo.
Lovely, thanks for sharing. So nice to hear it properly.
Grande Piloto!!! Parabens! Eldo- Araguari city/Brasil
Incredible video!!!
Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also an acoustic experience - like this!

Czyli mozna powiedziec , że polskie szybowce akrobacyjne nie "imiejut anałoga w mirje"? Fox, Swift, Acro
Efficiency and energy management :) These things are extremely efficient compared to most powered craft....they have to be.
świetny materiał
Bravo Monsieur !

É simplesmente, espetacular. De tirar o fôlego.
Great work very nice flying
Piekny lot.
Awesome!!! He is the best!!!
That what I call flying, All the best and wich one day to fly with you.
yes, it's my favourite part too. :)) I agree with you :)

I'd like to see him do that with a motor bolted to the front. This was way too easy......
Great flying !
Lol WTF I just noticed at the end he was just wearing a shirt and some corduroy trousers (and I'm betting some loafers to) what a freaking legend !
man he is having so much fun

great video
wonderful silence
Brilliant flying, what type o glider is it?
well...he looks hot! and a little surprised at the Gs he's pulling....it's hard to discern what maneuvers are being flown without power! very cool; i'll need to watch it a couple more times!
Yes !!!
Greaat! Who needs music!? Nice wind sound!
Fantastic Video.

Magnifique
Spectacular! Awsome i wanna try :D
GRANDE!!
nice high speed low inverted pass there :D
Very, very cool. Wish I could shake this guys hand.

Amazing flying
Bravo!!!
what is that move at 2:24 called? Thats just the best move in my opinion
You crazy sona-va-gun lol. That stall at 2:20 seemed intense
No kurde, ale fajnie :D
perfect
1:58 - What's that stuff hitting the canopy?
Oh hi, my name is Jerzy Makula... but you may call me "Mr. Baddass"
what model of aircraft is the towing one ?
Um desempenho impressionante do homem velho.
Denis, I can see that gliding is serious business. That guy did a perfect job. He has way more guts that I do. I suppose YOU would like to do that though? I enjoyed the film. Thanks, MOM
How does the pilot stay up so long with a glider??
super super cool :-)
Because it's a RATIO, it doesn't matter. You could also use feet or miles or whatever.
It's all about energy management. But he is released from the towplane and loses height gradually as he does the aerobatics, after all he is only up 6 minutes. does anyone knows what kind of smoke cans they use and where can I find them?
Jurek- the MAN!
Genio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, lets see what you do, please prove me wrong and provide a vid of you’re efforts, Can't wait!
looks scary but fun good job
Magnífico....un sueño🌹
what's the highest g force you experiance in a glider?
Beautiful! I agree with Samsonreklam. /Tille,TeamM
Margański & Mysłowski MDM-1 Solo Fox (reg. # SP-8000)
Would love to have a flight with you. Precise set of skills. Nothing but fun. Thanks for shooting it and posting. Enjoyed it.

I have seen people do low passes and climb into their circuit, but never whilst inverted.
Damn! He's good
