- Very rarely do deer hunters get to hear a whitetail make these sounds let alone capture it on film. Tom was lucky enough to have a camera with him as this buck puts on a show while tending a doe.

Fun fact: these are the exact same noises my stomach makes after eating the McRib.
I sounded like this when I won that burping contest years ago. I was called The Bullfrog, but this is much closer.

That first one is what I heard last night - over and over again. I was sitting outside. I thought it was my husband squeezing the trigger on his cordless drill! I went around the house to look and saw this group of deer in the neighbor’s yard - a big buck staring right at me from the shadows! I came back to the breezeway and they started doing that sound again! My husband didn’t believe me - I have to show him this . . .
That's what that sound is..I knew it sounded like a tool of some sort lol
0.25 I've heard that several times in the woods and wondered what was making that sound!!! Now I know. Ive had the privilege to hear grunts and lots of snort wheeze throughout the years and always gets my heart pumping. Last year, was creeping into my stand with a red light through some 5' tall sage grass and had a deer snort so close to me it felt like it was snorting on my neck. Scared the mess out of me when it happened just like the skunk I almost stepped on a few days before. Froze in both cases like a deer mount on the wall. Awesome video

@@ForeverFall very much not like a woodpecker. I am assuming you are referring to the deep, bassy, grunt? Woodpeckers boring through wood have a much more high pitched and percussive sound that is *much* louder than what is heard in the video. You can hear woodpeckers for hundreds of meters. The sound of a woodpecker boring *echoes*.
Also, you know, sounds like something hammering into wood, unlike this because... Well, that's what a woodpecker is doing.
If you are referring to deer snorts, no way in hell does it sound like a woodpecker. If you haven't heard a deer's alert snort, with a raised upper lip, blow air very aggressively through your upper teeth. That's about what it sounds like.

.57 like a mad roar I've had a buck do this upon exiting a vehicle door shut just pulled up stepped out car pulled away and a buck was pissed off enough to roar like that 3,4 times from 10'-30' started at 10 last it sounded off 30 slowly going away from me,never did see the horns,never hir it with light just surprise and enjoyed!
This is why I highly recommend stepping into the whitetails world. Magnificent animals.
I'm lucky enough to live in a conservation area in the Poconos. You hear these sounds all the time. Along with turkeys, foxes, and bears. We generally don't go for walks at night.
@@donnapoore3543 spent my entire life in whitetail country, never once heard a grunt. Literally everyone I know lives in the country and they've never heard them grunt. I always wonder why people feel the need to lie to a bunch of people they've never met about something they've never heard?
@@macgyver2169 I watched a huge mature buck coming across a quarter of alphalpa, he let out a roar at about 300yds that literally echoed through the bush, I roared right back at him but couldn't get the volume that he did. he still came straight at me as it was loud enough for him to hear me. Came right under my tree stand but i never got the shot i needed. Bowhunting can be some frustrating.
@@macgyver2169 I hear it when I'm bow hunting late October in Minnesota. Every now and then. Not every time I see a buck. The big 12 pointer I shot in 2016 did snort wheezes and grunting. I made Minnesota Classic 152 1/2 inches.

I never expected the grunting to be so calm. I expect quick, firm grunts. Very interesting
In my somewhat limited whitetail experience, I've only heard the short quick firm grunts while the buck is aggressively chasing a doe.

I experienced that tonight. October 31st 2018. I watched 5 different bucks chase around 12 does and heard thing's I've never heard deer do before. It was AWESOME. I passed 2 basket 8pts. And ended up shooting a 6.5 year old 5pt. He was old and had to go. Didn't want him breeding this year. He read the script perfectly once he hit my estrus drag trail. Shot him at 7 yards. Man what a day in the woods. Magical. Huge body old Wisconsin buck. Nothing better then my first Halloween buck in 28 years of bowhunting. He will keep my family eating venison all year. Just enough room in the freezer next to the 2 early season does I got..

A grunt call is one of the most effective tools i have ever used in the woods.
I cannot count the number of bucks ive cold called, or called back over the years.
Combined with a good estrus scent its a deadly combination!
I throw in a buck and a doe Montana decoy and wait for my broadside shot.
I usually hunt the ground vs a tree stand . One time I had a very dominant buck walk on the other side of a very dense thicket no more then 4 ft thick and growl like that , up close it sends chills down your spine the first time hearing it without seeing what it is. I ended up getting him that a day a really nice MD Eastern shore 8 pointer

He's a young buck. Probably frustrated not being a dominant player. Growing up I sat hundreds of hours tree stand hunting river bottom and mountain area, seeing so many animals in their natural state. I remember sitting one night in a tree stand I was about 12 and a beautiful coyote came in and sat down about 8 yards from me and I just watched as he looked eagerly behind us and had no idea I was watching him!

I never thought for a minute it was fake or not real.
I was stating the fact that most of the sounds I have heard deer make and this video don't sound like any grunt call on the market.

Heard sounds a lot like this outside my house around 3am last night. My dogs were going nuts, I don't know if the buck was teasing them or there was a doe close by and he was too distracted by her to care about the dogs.

Just heard a loud grunting noise outside tonight I never heard before and I know there is a young female deer around my field, so had to see if it was a male deer calling her :) and yep it was.
If I hear the last grunting sequence on this video while sneaking through the swamp towards my stand an hour before daylight I believe I'd throw into high gear!

I wonder if bucks can control how loud they snort. This snort sounded weak. The one I heard was so loud it sounded like someone hooked up massive speakers, plugged in a mic, and held it to its nose. Sent chills up and down my spine.

I rattled in a buck last year when he finally committed I could tell he was too small to shoot, So i put the horns down the buck came in licking his nose trying to figure out what deer i was he ran from the left to the right full speed thrashing trees making scrapes snort wheezing and when he realized he could not find the deer he was looking for he stood in one spot didn't move an inch for a solid 15 minutes, Looked like a decoy at first i was confused but I realized he was looking for movement of any deer and it was his last effort before trotting off into the bottom to spot the bucks that had been fighting.

I shot an 8-pointer in 2016 that was grunting this deep. He was closing in on a bunch of does that were breaking up in different directions and didn't know which one to follow. His mouth was wide open and was drooling and everything. This video sounds like the microphone is right up to the call so I'm assuming its a manufactured call, but I have heard them when they think they're just about to land the tail, it gets that deep.
It's 3:19 in the morning and I need to get up and finish packing to drive 2 hours to my deer lease in Crockett, TX. This vid gives me the power to do that. I think I will get the coffee on and roll. I rattled a buck up 2 weeks ago

Was hunting on the last day of PA bow season and had a buck snort wheeze close to me for the first time since I started hunting, I've heard the tending grunts and the occasional grunt but never that, I have called in a buck using a snort wheeze without a call

Those wheezes were very cool. I take it that last long grunt was when he was looking at the doe or challenging another buck that came in. Either way I wonder if a longer grunt like that could be used effectively when hunting.
Yes he was keeping other bucks from coming in to the doe.
Angler Outdoors you can use it when you have a mature buck on you bc it it's a mature buck call so it would scare off younger deer but yes very effective on mature bucks

I never saw a doe in the video given the wind direction and the erratic movements towards the end he was interested in being somewhere else and his olfactory senses got a taste of doubt! As did I

Heard this in the woods and i didnt want to get out of the blind.i knew it was a deer because he stomped and he did a regluar deer grunt. I was shocked never heard a deer do that but this deer session its been constent.

I heard the same thing--those long loud grunts behind my stand this year. It sounded like the buck was 20 yards behind me. I never saw the buck; It never came out from behind me. This was my first year archery hunting. I didn't have a grunt tube. I'm wondering if I blew a grunt tube, would the buck have came out.
Great video. I know they get way loader than this but maybe because this is a recording and I am not there hearing. The deepest grunt I have ever heard in the wild sounded like a giant bull frog. This video shows insight into just how to use artificial grunts to attract deer. Many hunters just over do it. And most grunts I hear hunters making sound like distress calls. Short and repeated bleats like 3 bleats is a distress bleat, I know because I witnessed it. Experience is priceless.
Shane71170 Me and my buddy were bow hunting 200 yards apart. I was higher up the mountain I watched a huge 8 running two does. For 20 minutes in the mountain laurel it was all short loud grunts most of the time he didn’t go 10 seconds without grunting. When we meet up at lunch my friend said he was pissed that I was up there fucking with him. We walked up and I showed him the rubs, scrapes and all the leaves turned over. Three hours later he was down where my buddy could see and hear him. We never saw him again.

I was charged by an old Buck years ago. Completely blew my mind. All he did was a low short grunt and came running. After I put 3 rounds of 7.62x39 and composed myself, it looked like he had just gotten in a fight with another buck because under his hide was all bruised and spotted
