  • Lake Nakuru is situated in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya in Equatorial Africa.
It the location of the greatest wild bird extravaganza on Earth, one million Flamingos strutting their stuff!, feeding and breeding on this shallow alkaline -saline lake.
Lake Nakuru is a World Heritage Site, is 5,755 feet above sea level, has an average depth of one foot and maximum depth of six feet.
Flamingos get their pink colour from the food they eat. They dine on microscopic Algae and Brine Shrimps which are abundant in the shallow waters of this soda lake.
Flamingos are filter feeders.Whilst feeding flamingos place their heads upside - down in the water with their bills pointing towards their feet. They then sweep their heads from side to side, using the tongue to pump water through their bills, trapping food in the comb like filter plates.
Flamingos display many different forms of ritual behaviors.
In the more common walking ritual a group of Flamingos strut through the water in time with each other before making sudden synchronized sharp turns.
    Anubis Baboons
We spent some rewarding time observing the varying, interesting and entertaining behaviors on display in this delightful family Troop of Anubis Baboons.
They are very intelligent creatures and share 91%of their DNA with humans.
One remarkable fact: male baboons have canine teeth larger than lions!
    White Rhinoceros
Despite their names both White and Black Rhinos are the same dark grey colour.
The name White Rhino is a misrepresentation of the Afrikaans word "wyd" meaning "square lipped"
    Black Rhinos have hooked lips.
Once thought to be extinct, a population of around 100 White Rhinos where discovered in Southern Africa. With effective conservation programs over the last one hundred years the species has made a remarkable comeback numbering around 20,000 today.
    Enjoy the Video.
