I wish I had known this when the popcorn was removed. My handyman did the whole house and I payed about $2000 for the popcorn removal. He renovated the whole house including bathrooms and kitchen. Unfortunately, there were couple of things he didn't get to it because he so sick and passed away in March. It will be so hard to find someone to trust with the last 2 home upgrades 😢.

This is important information Nikki!! Thank you! Your new home looks stunning. Nikki you are my all time favorite TH-camr. Your uplifting video's got me into TH-cam in the first place. I still have the beautiful pen I bought from you about 10 plus years ago. You and Mike are an amazing couple, everything you do is always the best of the best!

What a wonderfully clever gadget to do this job! The cost could be offset by renting it to family and/or friends, or as my cousin does by sharing costs of expensive power tools with his sons so they can all borrow them for DIY projects in their homes. Can’t wait for more new videos of your home!!

Congratulations on taking down that popcorn ceiling, that’s a tough job!
When I got my home every inch of ceiling was stippled. Slightly different than popcorn and in addition it was also painted over. 😅
I would say do one room at a time. If you are not able to buy the machine, home depot rents it out. Note the vacuum attachment and the sander itself are rented out separately. Buy a lot of sanding pads.
Have ready made meals ready to go because your kitchen may get dusty and it will just help not to have to cook.
Have a high quality respirator with filters that can be switched out. 3M has several options. Also wear googles. There will still be a lot of dust but the machine will be able to get at least 80-90% of it.
Be patient. Your hands will have to be above your head while holding that machine and it can get really tiring.
Be sure to prime before painting. Your walls will look absolutely wonderful. I started the process right after I moved in and it made my home more cozy and crisp. I definitely don’t regret it what so ever.

I have removed the popcorn ceilings from several rooms using a spray bottle of water and a scraper. It is a hard and messy job! Still have several rooms to go. Glad I saw this video, going to check with our Lowe’s to see if they rent it. Thank you! Beautiful floors by the way!

Hi Nikki I love EVERYTHING that you and Mike are doing? I have a question. After taking down the popcorn ceiling how do you fix the ceiling to make it smooth?

I wish I had known about this, however in this house we don't have the popcorn ceilings. In our last home 25 years ago we had them and they were like velcro collecting dust and dirt. They always looked grubby. X x

Hey Nikki, I found you because I too am a cricket. Just a couple hours up in the N. GA mountains. Thank you for this video.
After the popcorn removal, what did you do to the ceiling before painting ??

Nikki I think it's important to add that old popcorn ceilings can contain asbestos. If anyone is watching this and considering removing theirs, they should get it tested first.

And depending on the age, it may contain asbestos.

I rent this place. Worry, that the debris from the popcorn ceilings is going to effect my breathing. If and when you have time could you get back with me. There are cream-colored carpet In this apartment. Thank you for your time.

Please note: some popcorn ceilings contain asbestos- best to have it tested before trying to remove it yourself -all depends on what the builder used. ;)
