  • As a lover of all things old and weird, it was about time I had a go with some early 2000s digital cameras again.

    I worked in a camera store in SF during the early 00's. The fact that people say these old cameras give the 'film look' is an absolute riot considering they are the reason film died.
    Well. And the smart phone.

    • @StephenMcLeod
      @StephenMcLeod  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha right? They also look nothing like film! At all! The quality of this era of digicam is a bit better than some, but they're still... digital.

    • @krp8154
      @krp8154 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it isn't a riot and makes perfect sense since these are supposed to have "replaced" film cameras closely enough while offering massive upgrades in terms of convenience, efficiency, and ease of use for the average consoomer.
      I believe film was already evolving to this clean, sterile, "lifelike" look that we have now with modern digital photography, we were just able to jump ahead really fast with digital and remove all of the organic "imperfections" of film.

    lol literally just found one at work today that no one knows where it came from. so I just came up on this for free. which I can't complain. from a few test shots im actually loving the look with the flash. and the positive film profile is nice as well.

    I had so many Canon SD series cameras, and still have them! Nice to see W in your footage too; say hi for me! I completely agree with the sentiment that it's nice to have a camera just to take photos, instead of relying on our phones. I miss my SD series cameras.

    Getting a file raw from this camera is much easier than I thought. I found the program "Shimp 0.9.5". It automatically recognized the flash drive of this camera on the computer and uploaded all the necessary CHDK files. All that remains is to return the flash drive to the camera and it starts shooting raw) And you know, that’s when I really got a kick out of her! The quality of uncompressed files is much higher - sharpness, dynamic range, color. And even though she shoots in automatic mode, the camera settings cope with the scene.

    Please dont fall for the hype and overpay for subpar cameras. These Canon point and shoots are not created equal. It's got a tiny little 1/2.3" sensor, a cheap plastic lens, zero manual controls and poor low light performance. The G series and the discontinued A series (specifically the A80, 95, 610, 620, 630, 640 and 650IS) are the Canon digicams to get. Larger sensors, better lenses and full manual controls including aperture and shutter priority. If you really want an SD series for the small size, at least stick with the better models. The SD500 and 550 for the earlier models and then the 900 (which is the G7 sensor/processor in an SD body), the 950IS (G9) and 990IS (G10). All of which have the larger sensors and better lenses. Do your homework on the right models to get. Hope this helps.

      Thanks for the tips! I'll have a look. I'm not too bothered about performance with these things. It's more about experimenting with them. If I want quality and size then I've got the GR III or similar.

    Cool. I had a Fuji but I lost the charger. Might have to see if I can order one if it's cheap. They are fun though.

      Nice! Aye. So many of the ones you find kicking about don't have the chargers which I guess is inevitable, but a bit of a pain.

    Ive just bagged an sd1000 for peanuts, was hilarious trawling ebay and seeing people asking for £150-£250 for really busted up ones.
    Got it for when i dont want to take my GRIII or Canon 750d DSLR out, just wanted the sort of thing I can chuck in a coat pocket and not care if it gets banged up but still get some usable shots
