- What began as a normal day in the life vlog of my vanlife in the city of Calgary, Alberta was interrupted when I paid the folks at Craze Outdoors a visit only to discover they had been attacked by criminals that made off with over $50,000 worth of goods. Here is how the story played out on my end and how an amazing community came together to support at local small business.

My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!
Be Happy, Be Creative, Be Yourself and BE POSITIVE!
Gonna say this again - Not all heroes wear capes. You rallied us all to do something good in a time where someone needs help brother. Thank you.

We are beyond grateful and truly did not expect such incredible support. This experience has shown us that good people exist, and we should keep it that way by helping each other out. Once we have recovered, we will be giving back to the community even more than before!

I've been the victim of a burglary. More than the financial loss, it was the loss of a sense of security and faith in others that has stuck with me all these years. My heart goes out to all at Craze Outdoors.

I truly believe only about 1-5% of the population are d-bags...but it is that small percentage that have a huge negative impact on over 50% of the rest of us. Weather it is a car or your business being ransacked and robbed - it is an invasion of personal space that always tears your belief in the goodness of mankind. This fundraiser and this community is proof that 1-5% will not make the rest of us "just accept that's how it is". Thank you to all that donated 🥰

Well done everyone that chipped in and thanks to Matthew for starting the fundraiser and getting the word out. A small business taking such a huge hit like that is awful. Just the deductible alone is usually pretty high and then all the other damage they caused on top of all the stolen merch - it's tough to recover. At least this will give them a boost in the right direction!

Not every business who gets robbed has a YT guardian angel. When my business was broken in to twenty odd years ago, long before there was a go fund me. I had a new family, four children under the age of eight, thieves broken in, stole twenty grand of equipment and did fourty thousand dollars worth of damage to the building in under five minutes. From the time the alarm was sounded, to the time the alarm company called the police, to the time the police showed up was five minutes. Guess who had to pay the increase in insurance premiums because of it. Then I was broken into two more times with similar losses over the next couple of years. It was so bad that the theft premiums on the insurance became unaffordable. We were being robbed every month by the insurance company.
Crase is very fortunate to have you as a patron, but this happens all too often, every day, and it doesn't get any traction.

Yeah, insurance covers most, but not all losses... but they can't give you back your piece of mind, or your loss of your sense of security. not to mention the new financial costs to try and compensate for those unpaid losses, like a newer, better, probably live monitored security system.
That's what people's generosity is helping with... to fill a space inside that was stolen along with the merchandise. To reclaim a bit of the good part of humanity.

E bikes fold and most van lifers or campers store them like in the garage under the bed. Some do store them on the outside with a cover. Those bikes are pretty cool but i couldnt see it a good fit right now except when camping like last weekend. There not made for carrying packages, groceries and laundry. I bet your niece would love it. Do you just have to review or do you have to show yourself using it for a certain amount of time. Their about 2k.
