The adventure continues.
Safe sailing.
Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

Watching all the time, feel off shore from my living room. When life gets out the way my time will come.😊
Somebody get this man Starlink!
I would like to give Berry a one-time tip because I do not do auto payments of any kind. I have asked him to turn on the tip button on FTH-cam but I am sure he has a reason not to. I do appreciate the value his videos add to my dreams. I see a pay pal account in his description, but I had a problem with them and can't/won't use them. If I ever go, I hope I can afford Starlink.
Aren't you a "somebody"? I'm sure he'd be happy if you would buy that for him. Oh, I bet you meant somebody other than yourself, right.😂
Maybe a millionaire watching with a few extra bucks? I totally agree....
@@scottmichaels12😂
somebody pay for this man's overpriced overhyped internet service. If you got a crew or customers, or a bad ass fan pays for it, then yeah its worth it, for now.
My 7yr old daughter made me laugh, "Are you watching the old seadog?" "I recognise his boat" so there you go your channel is not just for old sea dogs, its also for the young and the young at heart.
We live in Western Australia and part of our retirement plan was to leisurely circumnavigate Australia. However the crocodiles, sea snakes, deadly sharks and massive distances between supply stops changed our minds. We settled for sailing part time in the Mediterranean for several years. For Aussies, we really enjoyed the calm seas and relatively short sail times from port to port. 😊😊😊
Just seeing and listening to Barry Perrins makes so, so happy.
Bud, don’t ever stop it, please.
As a GB coastal single hander I appreciate your achievements, Barry. Obviously you do not have a faint heart. Fair winds.
alot to take in ive watched this video twice and not finished yet, these journeys are more about time than distance and how little of it we each have to spend, fair seas and good health to you sea dog
What a thrill to see the top of Australia. Thank you for sharing your experiences and views. I remember as a child looking at a globe and wondering what that pointy bit looked like in real life. I hope you have no further bother from your foot injury and that you are diligent about cleaning and dressing it (and have plenty of supplies). It makes my day when you post a new video. Know that many of us are thinking of you whether you post or not.
His foot must have healed, he filmed this sometime in spring, and has since made it all the way to Reunion Island (he arrived Sept. 3rd.)
@@lapsedluddite3381 That's GREAT news!! So glad he made it safewly across the Indian Ocen. Was so worried for him.
@@lapsedluddite3381 Wow and thanks!
My sailing season ended six weeks ago when I was hospitalized with a very bad staph infection in my blood - from a dirty cut. Doc says I’m lucky to be alive. Take care of the wound on your foot. Neosporene in every stocking this Christmas here this year.
Old SEa Dog, have watched you on many times have scribened to your channel, really feel for you when not all ok, you are a champion , old man, same as me , wish I was onboard to solve some of your problems and keep you company, but I guess this is not what you want, all the best with smooth seas and good winds, stay safe and all the best,,,,God Bless,,,,,, Peter,,,,,,,,

I single handedly sailed the bushy inlets so many times, allways a surprise what you will find inside ! Barry is only playing his harmonica in these instances! Fair winds and stay out of trouble like the Bayesian!
Great job … 👏 👏👏👏👏
From Oklahoma USA 🇺🇸
Fantastic episode as always Barry! Must have been magic indeed getting to Cape York! Must seem a long time ago now as you have almost crossed the entire Indian Ocean. Love Malcolm and Eileen XX

Hi Barry, good to see you still have your KIWI shirt from the Whangarei days. 2 years since.
Wonderful video Barry, look after your foot you don’t want it getting infected.
Fair winds my friend ✨🍀
Townesville area north of magnetic island. I like newqueensland. Great barrier reef is amazing. Wheeelers reef to be exact. Cheers
Thank you for sharing your way through. Simple sailing with just foresail and not in a hurry!!
From an old seadog to another good work!
It always good to see you Barri, hobe you have a nice trip to Madagaskar.
Hi Barry. What a lovely trip that was. No swimming with crocs then. Shame about not being able to snorkel because of the poor weather. But never mind. Pardon the pun, but as WET WET WET said, Go west young man. Stay safe Barry.
Thank you Barry for another great video
Spiffing stuff ! Love the historical tidbits you add in. Fair winds !

Great video Barry
Good luck, with your travels. 👍🍀🍻
Great video, as usual.
Great video good to see you still ship shape ❤
Go west young man.
Stay well. Stay happy. Peace.
Looks like you got caught up in the S.E. Trade Winds. They can be fierce if there's a big high down south with a strong ridge up the Eastern Seaboard.
Congratulations. Quite an accomplishment. That’s amazing if it’s fulfilling to you that’s all that is important. Love the videos. Keep it up and safe sailing . Via con Dios .
Dang I have missed you in your transit! People do think of you when you're on the seas alone
Always looking forward to your next adventure. Be safe.
Wow, what an interesting and historical place, great video Barry 😊❤
G'day Bazza,
Cool episode, as always.
Keep em comming.
Respect....!
As entertaining and informative as ever, always a great watch thanks
keep up good work Barry
Always enjoy you. Blessings.
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Barry... On and on...
Thank Barry, stay safe, my friend
Awesome great to hear from you
great episode!
❤. Safe travels!
Barry goes where only the big sea dogs dare to go.
Take care of those feet. An infection at sea can permanently end your adventure
I like tiny air cooled diesels for boats. No salt water plumbing. Fuel draw goes way down. You can charge batteries forever. Hundreds of pounds get left behind. I also likd a CB radio and skip. An extra 12 volt chest freezer or two is not a bad idea. Carry extra limes.
is that the kind of engine they used to call a "make and break" ...fishermen in my area (North Atlantic) called them that I believe...real old school. Think they used to spin a flywheel to get them started...a single cyclinder?
@@barrybarnes96 no. A sophisticated ball bearing aluminum block grey iron sleeve MB168F on Amazon and eBay. I make a 1 inch sleeve for the 20 MM crankshaft and add a 7 inch pulley for an alternator and a small pulley for a hydraulic drive to a sailboat prop. It's all steer gears and 196 CC is perfect for charging and a small output for aiming and trolling and storm pointing. You mount it on plate aluminum.

thats the 168F in the video.
stanley what size sailboat does this engine power for you? it looks pretty small and very noisy. But I like the fuel efficiency
Amazing 🙌
I did enjoy thanks for sharing
Absolutely amazing ❤❤❤😂😂😂❤❤❤
Congratulations for a job well done.
Fantastic fantastic as always thanks Barry
You rock buddy.. Love it..
Congrats old man.
nice episode.
Fun video as always! Cheers from the American colonies.
Love you Barry.
Congratulations on your milestone.
Thank you great video!!❤😂🎉
Loved your videos....
Compared to the island billionaire, Barry is still a youngy.
Thank You Seadog!
I do enjoy your videos & you do get me laughing. We sail a lot on our large yacht. This year, like next month across the pond again Med to Caribbean then Florida for the winter. I'll looking forward to your Indian ocean crossing hopefully trouble free.
Oh you need to eat better why no fish or seems not to be?
Good one Barry
You're amazing Barry x
good to know you are still sailing ok safer passage and fair winds
You turned me on to youtube sailing Amigo thank you big family now!!!
Thanks Barry I watch all ur vids take care.
Brilliant vlog. You are the real deal Barry ..and a brave bugger, if you don't mind me saying so. Garlic is a natural antibiotic if you can ever lay your hands on some.. It would hurt like hell, but the clean salt water would do your cut good, then keep clean & dry , use Germoline and cover for a week. Fair winds and congrats 🇬🇧🇦🇺⛵️🌊🏝 from a Brit ( Southsea ) in Toronto
Barry, you have some hard bark on you as I look back over your shoulder. Your life has not been far from average from pirate radio stations to solo circumnavigating the globe. Any timeline for returning home? Home, you at the pub telling tales of adventure on the high seas. What a life.
Back to the pub next year!!
Great content. Tks
Excellent content
Crocs can hold their breath for nearly an hour Barry! No swimming.
I used to work with crocs and gators for decades.
@@mikefetterman6782Saltwater Crocodiles in Australia? You’re braver than I am!
Hi Barry Looking at an old episode you had a small problem catching rainwater. I thought it could probably work turning an umbrella upside down with a small hole (on top) and a hose connected......... Okay little bit of work, but the hook wil help also..
cheers greetings from the Netherlands
Nice video
Congratulations
Congratulations 🎉
God speed and keep safe!!!
