Got to see Ted Nugent many times in the late 70s early 80s. Always a great show. It's easy to forget how popular he was back then.

I was there. The old Volunteer Jams were the best...the only one you knew was going the there for sure was Charlie Daniels Band...everybody else was a surprise. Over the years saw James Brown, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ted Nugent, Link Wray, Carl Perkins, Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, all the Southern Rock guys...so many more, great memories!

“Nugent said he avoided being drafted into the Vietnam War in 1967 by dropping his own personal hygiene and dabbling in drugs to appear like a hobo.
“I got my physical notice 30 days prior to [being drafted],” Nugent told High Times. “Well, on that day I ceased cleansing my body. No more brushing my teeth, no more washing my hair, no baths, no soap, no water. Thirty days of debris build. I stopped shavin,’ and I was 18, had a little scraggly beard, really looked like a hippie. I had long hair, and it started gettin’ kinky, matted up.”
Nugent continued, “Then two weeks before, I stopped eating any food with nutritional value. I just had chips, Pepsi, beer-stuff I never touched-buttered poop, little jars of Polish sausages, and I’d drink the syrup, I was this side of death. Then a week before, I stopped going to the bathroom. I did it in my pants. Poop, piss the whole shot. My pants got crusted up.”
Nugent also explained that he was typically “extremely anti-drug” but “I snorted some crystal methedrine” in order to avoid the draft, which is ironic considering his long-held stance on drugs. “

I remember that tour. Saw the same 3 acts in Cincinnati, Ohio when Scorpions first came to America. Probably the best concert ever including Bon Scott. Thanks for the comment. This 3 act concert was also before the Cincinnati Who concert tradgedy so we still could enjoy general admission seating back then. I also remember that Derek St. Holmes did the majority of singing for Ted Nugent. Ted sang Cat Scratch Fever, of course, along with several other classic Nugent songs. - 1979! - 🌐

I remember seeing this performance on a VHS videotape not long after it was broadcast, as my dad (1937-2006) had recorded it from TV. Somehow the videotape got lost over time, so I'm grateful to the person who posted this! I remember how the performances preceding it were more country-ish and laid back (which is cool)... then this MANIAC comes roaring onto the stage and amps things up quite a bit... GLORIOUS!!! (LOVE the stealthy entrance! Clever touch) Dad and I LOVED this performance... ah, memories!

Saw Ted perform, about 1 week before The Amboy Dukes released Journey to Center of the mind album. In a bar, in Ann Arbor. Sat on the floor, in front of the stage. Ask him about Stanly Andrews. The PA company owner, and amp modifier of his Twin Amps. I'm the guy that dis assembled and re assembled those amps at Stanly's ranch. Stanly did the soldering stuff. Used to stand on the sidewalk, on State Street, Ann Arbor Mich.; and listen to Ted practice riffs, etc. Yea, he was indoors, but easy to hear outside !

Nuge is one of the best guitar players ever! And the only reason he’s not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (except thru Amboy Dukes) is because of his politics. But that’s okay Motor City Madman. Stay true to what you believe like you always have. I saw him in 1977 @ Anaheim Stadium with Lynyrd Skynyrd and it was a helluva show! He’s one of the best.
