Babymetal concert is the only place where you can meet people dressing up as anime cosplayers and metalheads with beards and tattoos dancing and headbanging at the same time. Its perfect.
"Microphone check. One, two. One, two." - He's not ready. "Are you ready to mosh?" - He's definitely not ready. "Put your Kitsunes up!" - He's SO not ready. .... "What?" - Nope, he wasn't ready. The common saying regarding Iine is that when BABYMETAL was asked what genre they wanted to use for the song, the answer was "Yes!"
Ha ha ha! That was brilliant. This was only the second song they released (it was their third song but IDZ was released later) and they were clearly establishing early on that all the usual rules of what you can do, what genres you can mix into one song and so on were not going to apply to BABYMETAL. Iine (as you discovered ee-nay) translates as 'so good' like a thumbs up emoji. So EDM, a bit of rap and then that drop into death metal - quite possibly the best drop into death metal from a rap ever - and then back to the EDM to finish. As the song title suggests - it is so good. In most live versions they drop the rap and it became a call and response ... but that drop is still there and you really need to see a live version where you can see the crowd and what they do. They did warn you - "Yo yo yo yo. Microphone check, one two one two. Are you ready to mosh? Kitsune da o!"
It's very 'Maximum the Hormone'. That is what i get from it. But i'm glad they don't do these abrupt genre changes anymore and go with more of a blended approach.
The contrast is what makes it great. That cute little "Kitsune Da O?! 😗" at 3:57 which immediately launches into a crazy hard hit that bulldozes right over you...the hit itself is hard already, but it can't hit you as hard as it ultimately does unless they sucker punch you out of nowhere with it. Kawaii (cute) allows you to do that. Create a cadence that sounds super innocent and "tee hee😊" girly, then clothesline the listener right in the throat while they're caught off-guard! Genius.
Hahahah... That's the beauty of the foxhole. Every time you think you finally have them figured out the next song will smack you again with something completely different. Enjoy the ride :-) 🦊🤘🏻
The face you made when it switched from EDM to hip hop had me go “This song, every time” :D Tbh I enjoy that song for the “shock value” in its studio version, but the live version is actually great, they tone down the hip hop section a little bit so the transition is just a little less jarring but the drop is just as brutal: there is one recording in particular from the Metro Rock Festival 2015 in Tokyo that’s just pretty mind blowing thanks to the fantastic public they had that day
This is included in their collaborative EP with another Japanese Metal Band Kiba of Akiba. It wasn't announced who was doing the gutturals for this song but I assume that it was KoA's vocalist Futoshi doing it. I'm not sure if you've already done this but BABYMETAL created a cover of KoA's track Kimi to Anime Ga Mitai. If you don't mind, please check it out. And KoA also covered BABYMETAL's Doki Doki Morning. If you got free time, you might want to check it out if you want some good laughs. Kitsunes up!
If you listen to the live performances from Budokan (red or black night, 2014), or the Tokyo Bowl (red night, 2016), the song doesn't sound quite as eclectic. With the Kami band backing them, the EDM parts are heavier, and the rapping has been replaced with a hip hop themed call and response section. Maybe the heavy drop becomes slightly less drastic, but it's still very cool. And it's never hard knowing how to react to the music during live performances. You just follow Moa and Yui's cues! They are literally instructing you all the way through :-)
Hahaha the look on your face at the drop was absolutely priceless. Nobody sees any part of Iine coming. The live performance version doesn't have the same level of whiplash and is a better song overall, but I think the fanbase has a soft spot for this version because it's so damn weird and yet still functions as a song somehow. Their producer said that this song and a couple of others were included in their plans for the first album as a way to prevent them from being pigeonholed into any particular style of music by fans. I think the reason the third album is so eclectic in general is because they've outgrown so many of the more out-there early songs like this and they need modern replacements that accomplish the same thing.
This has always been my favorite Babymetal song. The inclusion of different styles here isn't any weirder than in e.g. Bohemian Rhapsody; if anything, the transitions here are better. And the quality of musicianship is top notch. Plus, the lyrics are great (though admittedly you have to have studied Japanese to know that).
Hey , i will try again for BabyMetals hardest song, most fun song "Catch Me If You Can" live at "Black Night Legend Doomsday show Thats the best clip, with 3 Guitar Solos, Drum Solo, Monster evil Riffs So Metal So Cute!!! Quid- Essential BabyMetal Song
Lets say, this is kind of salad of music genre XD As I grow up with 90s eurobeat ,I can say half of this songs sure brings back memories :) Dance and headbang ? Oh yes ,the audience from live show did some Dancebang XD Oh and great reaction btw. Really did :D
Your reaction and confusion was amazing!^^ I love this song, it's just so catchy and has these surprises. Banymetal has always been very experimenting with genres.
Hello and greetings from Germany! Awesome reaction! I know you're confused, watch it live and all your questions shall be answered! They can hype up any place with that song. Cheers and have a nice day! 🤘🦊🎌
haha, that was a great reaction ! This is Babymetal's second song, really _the_ song to establish them as genre-defying. :-) How do you react to this live ? With a big f-ing smile of course ! Obviously the girls don't really do the growl-like screams. Su-metal needs to preserve her voice. When the song was created they didn't get years long lessons in doing growling correctly obviously. They do make it a bit more palitable live though the rap part becomes a crowd interaction/call-response part. And it's definitely not on a regular setlist. It was last performed in 2017 when opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers on their US tour. Bassist BOH has said this is actually a surprisingly hard to play: --- Q : Ijime, Dame, Zettai sounds like band sound. On the contrary songs like IINE! doesn't so much. So are songs like IINE! more difficult for you? B : IINE! is difficult! (laugh) Difficult from its first note! Its killer part is something that normal human don't do... (laugh) I play that part just the same as the original source. The first concept of Kami Band was "Be technical." But having smooth movement of fingers, good rhythm, tight sound and such are just minimum requirements, top on that need good collaboration to develop songs. --- And an older live version exists which had this as it's rap-like part: --- "BABYMETAL in da hause." "Wait a moment" "Wait a moment" "Eh? What about metal?" "Aren't we playing metal? "YEAH! THAT'S RIGHT!!!" Queue growling and metal music... ---
This is why Babymetal is unique and different from any metal band out there. You cannot categories Babymetal into a specific genre of metal because they have everything that make every reactors surprise and confuse at the same time. Iine is experimental but BxMxC is more refined. Welcome to the Universe of Babymetal. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤟
The lyrics are about "how good!" (iine!) it is to go to a party and leave the everyday cares/worries aside for a while. So the song is like the music you might hear at a party going from edm/dance/rave to hop hop to heavy metal and back around. A very early release, it is often thought this is Kobametal saying can't pigeonhole Babymetal.
iine live is amazing! Have you thought about doing a full concert reaction on twitch? Would love to see you react to Metrock 2015. It's a 40min festival performance in tokyo with an insane amount of energy, KamiBand on top of their game and an incredible crowd. You don't need to worry about copyright blocks on twitch. There are steamers who stream BM concerts regularly for more than a year now.
OY! Just go with it mate. This is a Babymetal song deconstructed vs a mishmash! A brilliant job by Koba and possibly a tell of his intentions to mishmash into a new genre. Cheers!
😂 Great reaction. I wouldn't say I 'like' this song. I find it entertaining and don't mind hearing it, and I love watching other people see it for the first time, but I will literally never put it on just because I want to hear it. It's like a sampler box. Thankfully they started blending genres after this instead of lining them up and knocking them down one at a time. 🤘🦊🤘
Lol.. this song is good to trolling someone... More than "gimme choc".... They do similar to this in "4 no uta"... just slide a reggae in the middle of banger interlude... I imagine crowd doing mosh and reggae dance back and forth ... savage 😁😁
yeah .... that's what happens when you think you'll never get any surprise from Babymetal then the next thing happen is they give you surprise once again. remember the first rule with Babymetal " expect the unexpected "
this song is very WTF at first hearing it but now I love it! So if you didn't notice 3:49 Moa and Yui were telling you "are you ready for mosh?". this song is for me the definition of babymetal .. they are capable of doing the most adorable, the most catchy and the most brutal in the same song and at any time! btw if you need a IINE performance live watch this show www.dailymotion.com/video/x7xehc8 (2nd song) for me is the best crowd had you ever seen and it's just a festival, it's not a 100% babymetal show
The video is about uniting fans of different genres to all become Babymetal fans. Or maybe to say whatever genre of music you're into you can be a fan of Babymetal. Definitely a message of unity and inclusion.
you have to remember this song was like their second video after doki doki from like 2010 or 2011. that is why they look so young. this song is so cool live. wembley 2016 is the best live version but it is not on youtube. also this was when Babymetal was trying to find itself.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 👍 This is the probably the ultimate, "Do you like music genres? We smooshed them all into this one song for you." Probably my favorite EDM Dance Rave HipHop Kawaii Metal song of all time. : ) Too bad they haven't performed this song since they toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in April of 2017.
That was hilarious, thanks! But c'mon, you are not new to BABYMETAL and you should already know that you must be prepared to be surprised and expect crazy things like this one because... yes, this is objectively crazy LOL. Damn, I love that breakdown so much! The metal one I mean... try playing it full blast :)
It's very clear in this song that they gave zero fucks about the "rules" and just did what they thought would be funny. A work like this you can dislike, but you can never not respect it.
I loved how you just can't cope with it and are so confused for 4 minutes straight. BM songs can get that reaction sometimes, lol. It just shows how creative they are and how BM does not hesitate to mix whatever genre together with metal, and it works out so damn well every time. Great genuine reaction!
You've really picked a good order to go through thier catalog. I think just about every video You've been saying crazy/wtf. I've become a fan myself just this past month through wtaching reactors like yourself. Babymetal are truely amazing. They deserve a spot in The rock and roll hall of fame.
Im aware this is an old post, but in case this might interest anyone. Babymetal is not a fusion Group. By the time Iine came around, they were pop kids, collaborating with Metal. There is a subtle different that are worlds apart. For instance a lot of bands try to have female lead front girls that can do both metal and pop, so you sometimes you have these girls that appear to be punk/metal/pop fusion but they are trying to emulate BabyMetal. But That's not what Babymetal is doing. They were basically separate genres collaborating together. That was never done before and still has not been done like this since. They are special in that sense. I would say that in the last 10 years, Babymetal has done more for the metal genre than Slipknot has.
Ah, yes, the infamous "iine." or "Line" as most of us first thought of it. Don't feel bad. It's a very confusing song. All Babymetal is surprising but this song takes it to eleven. This and "Doki Doki Morning" are songs people need to be introduced to only after they have some Babymetal under their belts. Get them comfortable on what to expect and then BAM. Slappem inna face! But, it still makes you smile. That's Babymetal's secret. You can't help but have fun when you listen to them. And what could be cuter than Yui dressed in black saying "Yo?" You should check out some commentary videos by the girls. They do this one. When they fall onto the couch at the beginning of the video they all exclaim about how they think they look like Dracula. It's adorable. See you!
Yes, i get used to dance DDR and PIU dance emulator songs, so no problem with that in a Babymetal concert, and i can headbang with no neckbrace either so it's all good mate, don't worry ;) \m/
I like this song, not the MV but Live version, live version is more good, and i like that dance coreography in that song, you must check it. BABYMETAL - iine live at Budokan Black Night. Good reaction again 🤘
Haha, that was an entertaining facial expression. What other band would do something like that? It’s not my favourite song, but certainly very entertaining.
ROFL XD your face reaction soon the rap part kicks in 🤣😂 if you ever feeling down or not in a good mood listen this song I'll recharge your batteries 🤘🦊 (Legendary Song). Iine = iine
"Iine" (So Good) is lots of fun live, but this early video makes me cringe. The rap section is toe curlingly bad and there are some very "gravure idol" frames of Yui and Moa that are very uncomfortable. Koba and Amuse moved away from that sort of stuff pretty quickly, TTFG. I put "Iine" in the same category as "Doki Doki Morning", it's an early song, well before the Kamis came on board, and it was first released on a Sakura Gakuin album so it was way more J-pop than metal. The next, and final, Babymetal song on a Sakura Gakuin album was "Headbanger" in 2013 and at that point Babymetal started appearing on their own as a distinct unit separate from Sakura Gakuin and they got more metal.
I think that is first concept of BABYMETAL. Me too, this MV is so cringe, especially when Yui and Moa doing like "Growl", that's literally gimmick, but i like the Live version, 😂
"How do you react to the shows?" You enjoy the music. It's not hard to enjoy multiple genres of music at once...this song is amazing. You looked confused by the double bass...it's not exclusive to hard metal. There are genre's of music that exist beyond your definitions. Why not mix them all up? Why constrain yourself to just one? Think outside the box and enjoy yourself instead of trying to cram everything into your preconceived boxes. Enjoy life, it doesn't last forever.
KITSUNE DA-O! Great reaction, your facial expressions were priceless ahahah You already reacted to Tales of the Destinies, BMC and Babymetal Death, so you already know some other songs of their that can blow your mind :) You know how can you react while listening at this song? Just do a friendly Circle Pit! :D

Yes
Never let the metal stuff take you by surprise. They were in the Sakura Gakuin Heavy Music Club for a reason.
Ha ha ha! That was brilliant. Right before that heavy AF drop, the girls give a hint to us by saying "Are you ready to mosh?". 🦊🤘
Ha! Yes, this is the first time I've listened to this song, and that's exactly what I thought... they did ask if you were ready.
Your face at 3:58 is priceless
It's just 3 little girls how heavy could it be ? ;-)
Hahahaha, I laugh everytime I watch that reaction 😂 It's like he just suddenly got scared for a moment, like "...OOOOHH"
It's like a cross between Hatsune Miku, Britney Spears, Passcode and Napalm Death... Don't you just love Babymetal?
With a little Kyary Pamyu Pamyu brought in for effect.
It's very 'Maximum the Hormone'. That is what i get from it. But i'm glad they don't do these abrupt genre changes anymore and go with more of a blended approach.
I am addicted to BABYMETAL, and I’m 59 years old! My kids think I’m really weird!
These are the most changes that they ever seen in a song in my entire life!
@@KenjaTimu I've also thought that, but I feel like MtH changes are more frequent but the gap in iine between genres is bigger ?
3:57 my face the first time as well 😎🤘🏻🦊
You prepare for everything, but Iine is the kind of song that takes you in a wild journey.
Hahahah welcome to another episode of "IINE break my mind" 🤣, only for let u know this Song live would probably become One of your favourites 💪

This song may be "silly" but it's so fun especially live, unfortently they don't perform this song anymore.
I love seeing people’s reaction to first hearing and seeing this and yours did not disappoint! “It’s GREAT!” 🦊 🦊 🦊
Ah, yes, the infamous "iine." or "Line" as most of us first thought of it.
And what could be cuter than Yui dressed in black saying "Yo?"
You should check out some commentary videos by the girls.
Your face when it went into rap 🤣
Should watch live version and see the fans react . This song will grow on you . 🤘🦊🤘
The live version is also thrilling somewhere
at this stage they were a little clunky with mixing genres, but i absolutely adore the beginning tbh
Haha, that was an entertaining facial expression. What other band would do something like that? It’s not my favourite song, but certainly very entertaining.
He said "this is crazy" but he's far to early at 2:42 for that :-)
ROFL XD your face reaction soon the rap part kicks in 🤣😂 if you ever feeling down or not in a good mood listen this song I'll recharge your batteries 🤘🦊 (Legendary Song).
Babymetal 🤟 💕
The BabyMetal sampler platter, as it were.
In which Babymetal takes many left turns...without using their turn signal. :D
A mix tape after a very long night and too much booze.
Face from 😳 to ☺ to 😲 to 😅 to 😯 to 🤩
🤘
"How do you react to the shows?" You enjoy the music. It's not hard to enjoy multiple genres of music at once...this song is amazing. You looked confused by the double bass...it's not exclusive to hard metal. There are genre's of music that exist beyond your definitions. Why not mix them all up? Why constrain yourself to just one? Think outside the box and enjoy yourself instead of trying to cram everything into your preconceived boxes. Enjoy life, it doesn't last forever.
KITSUNE DA-O!
Great reaction, your facial expressions were priceless ahahah
You already reacted to Tales of the Destinies, BMC and Babymetal Death, so you already know some other songs of their that can blow your mind :)
You know how can you react while listening at this song? Just do a friendly Circle Pit! :D

Insane reaction mate :)))
