Is Knorr relatively "cheap" in comparison where you are? I'm in Australia and have to rely on companies that import it...and it's probably not as budget friendly as it would be in the country of origin.
@@Kayenne54 I'm in Australia, too. I've lived here for 2 1/2 years and was astonished when I moved here at the lack of choice in brands in grocery stores, and the lack of MANY ingredients that I could get anywhere in the USA.

When we went camping my mom would take a couple boxes of Rice a Roni (6 people) and chicken thighs cut in thin strips. She’d start cooking the chicken in the skillet for a couple minutes to get some browning and fond before adding the pasta/rice to brown. When it’s good and brown she’d add the water and seasoning and cook til done. One of my favorite meals that she unfortunately usually kept as a camping meal.
We’ve always use Knorr boullion…Honestly people will find something wrong with everything these days 🤷🏼♀️ To each his/her own….Thanks for the recipes 😊
ITA and me too! Except I buy the cubes, and just chop up as needed lol. I'm a pretty good cook, and I think the flavor is great. Heck, even if I'm making homemade onion soup, I usually use a base of Knorr's for fuller flavor (both Beef or Veggie work great). The only thing I think is actually better are some of the boxed stocks, but I usually end up throwing most of them away, and I don't think they make that noticeable a difference!! Can’t wait to put this together! Right in time. My family is leaving on Thursday to head to Virginia to celebrate my 75th birthday. My grandchildren will love this. Easy to bring with us. Thank you. Just found you on TH-cam.
One of our local food banks has a commercial kitchen & will provide sealed stuff like homemade ketchup in containers. So I don't see why a place like that couldn't make their own mixes to give out. But a regular food bank could give out the prepackaged seasonings & rice/pasta to mix up yourself at home with a recipe leafket. Or you could get the rice & pasta there & make your own mixes with your own seasonings at home.
I’ve always wanted to make that. Saw a video months ago and never thought of making it from scratch. I used to make rice a roni for many years. Will have to try that! Great prepping in jars 👍Looks delicious 😋
I managed to cook until retirement age without ever having rice-a-Ronni either served to me or cooked by me. I learned something new today. Thank you very much. I will incorporate this meal and also adapt for flavoured rice which is a favourite meal in this house. Making flavoured rice at home from pantry staples will be much more economical than even purchasing the remeasured packages on sale. Also I did not know that tomato bullion existed thus I will look for that product at a larger grocery store in my region. Every shopping trip requires vehicle travel and several hours which necessitates buying in bulk.
I love this so much!!! I loved Rice a Roni (the beef especially) so much growing up, but I don’t like it since they added the dehydrated carrots (blech) and I don’t like the chicken flavor any more. I’d suggest for the vermicelli (or angel hair) to break it a bit, and then put in a ziplock bag and run over it with a rolling pin (or smack it a bit with a smooth pot bottom) like you were making graham cracker crumbles. I personally love the Knorr Chicken seasoning, it has a great taste. I imagine that it’s a salt bomb, but my sodium runs low, and I love salt. But if others don’t, there are likely healthier alternatives out there. You do you, boo. Edited to add: it really tastes so much better if you brown the rice/vermicelli in some butter…gives it a nice nuttiness!
I find very helpful I braked them in half and put in kitchen towel and knights like dough , it’s all together in one place. In time when you need vermicelli but all you have spaghetti.😅
I made up the jars tlday!! Oh and someone probably already said not 32 oz jars but plus old quart jars. I also made up a jar of cilantro lime as we love that too....I am working on duplicating the seasoning used in the boxed noodles like garlic parmesan and herb buttered ...cheddar flavored ...and maybe a coconut pineapple blend.
I made 2 of the rices the Spanish and Chicken for my grand baby. I would have loved to make the bf but she is allergic to yeast. The noodles I used were gluten free the family really liked it. Thank you
Love these! Tell the haters of Knorr to kick rocks. I love better than bullion, but Knorr is so much cheaper and it works! These would be great for homemade Christmas presents!
For 5 years, I have been unable to eat rice a Roni store bought, because I am allergic to nuts, they add slivers of almonds. I can't wait to try this. Thank you
You know I'm loving everything you post & I, personally, prefer the knorr brands so ty. You keep doing you boo. You can't please everyone & as you always say, adjust it to fit what you want or like 😊. I also don't like onions but I don't feel the need to fuss about those who do 🙃. Another great video Tammy.
I love Rice-a-roni. Will definitely try this. Could you use orzo instead of vermicelli? It's a different shape, but it is tiny. Or just put the vermicelli in a plastic bag and wail on it with your meat tenderizer hammer thingy. Get out some frustrations at the same time.
Im curious to know how much it costs to make these. I haven't even bought a box of rice a roni in yrs. Its just too much for me for a meal. I'm a widow and I was thinking of cutting the ingredients in half when i cook them. I'd be getting twice as many meals from one jar. This might be a solution for me. 😊
Mom rarely did boxed sides so at almost 60 I'm discovering that there is spaghetti in RICE a roni.:) Looks tasy, very convenient, and much cheaper than the boxed stuff. Can't wait to try.
What a great idea. I like to home make things like this to avoid some of the things found in pre-packaged, process foods. That being said, I was shocked to see what is in those Knorr bouillons. I'm rethinking how to season this pasta/rice mix. Thanks for all the great ideas you inspire !
Oh wow you've done it again all these great ideas for me to make and stock my pantry. All 3 of these are my favorite so I know homemade will be even better!! Can't wait for another freezer meal prep video! ❤😊❤
I make my own chicken ricearoni but I use a pkg of Chicken noodle soup mix to one cup of rice. I usually add a bit more chicken boullion as the stock in the soup mix isnt quite enough. When I add my water tho, if I dont add about 2.5 to 2.75 cups of water, the rice isnt cooked enough.
I buy that Knorr Caldo De Pollo bouillon by the gallon and I use it almost daily, love this flavor.. it’s great for canning too; thanks for the video it is sure helpful

Am I wrong, or does boxed Rice-A-Roni have way less flavor than it did when we were kids? I made some tonight and threw most of it away. I will definitely try THIS, though! Thanks so much. Oh, and I use the Knorr bouillon powder, too. Cheap, delicious, and lasts forever.
I have a friend who is vegetarian. Can I simply leave out the boullion, or should I add something like more herbs and spices to boost the flavour? If I make it, I will use my home made stocks, so I can make multiple batches if possible.
I’m so excited to have found you! I’m trying to go as unprocessed as possible. 😃 Also, I’ve used orzo pasta instead of the vermicelli; it’s already “rice-sized.” No breaking up required.

0:14 Dear Friend, hello. I am a new viewer and subscriber. I am a older senior. Please could you show me jow to make a beef gravy mix. The packages my visiting nurse Kelley buys me is making ill. Please could you show us that recipe. I would really appreciate it. I love beef gravy, its my favorite. Thank you Lass. Gods Blessings to you and your family. Ann👵🏻 ps yellow rice mix also.
Yellow rice is on my list, so that will be coming soon. I have a video with the brown gravy mix already. Here is that link for you th-cam.com/video/TaWScsnNvnw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kZ039Mej0AIkPG1D
Try 1/4 C beef boullion and 1 to 2 Tbs corn starch.

Can’t wait to put this together! Right in time. My family is leaving on Thursday to head to Virginia to celebrate my 75th birthday. My grandchildren will love this. Easy to bring with us. Thank you. Just found you on TH-cam.
Happy birthday!! 🎉🎁🎂😁
Mexican grocery stores almost always have short vermicelli noodles.
I’ll check there😁
I bought 10 bags of tiny vermicelli pieces on Amazon. I think they were .49 each.
Oh I’ll have to go look! Thanks!😁
I can see making these for our local food bank, what a great thing to have!
That’s a great idea!!😁😁
Food banks aren’t allowed to give away home made mixes. They usually can give out home sewn things like kitchen towels or windfall fruits.
Thank you! It’s super easy😁😁
Fideo pasta is what you're looking for 😊
Thanks!😁
I still break those in half :)
Oh goodness! That’s a lot of work to get groceries! I have more flavored rice coming soon😁😁
THIS, is what the internet should be used for. I love to hear my southern folks accent.
Lol thanks!😁😁
Thanks! I do brown it in butter and it’s so good! This tastes so much better than the store bought stuff😁😁
And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.

I find very helpful I braked them in half and put in kitchen towel and knights like dough , it’s all together in one place. In time when you need vermicelli but all you have spaghetti.😅
Sounds great!😁
Thank you for the recipes. I'm always looking for rice dishes for my husband who loves rice. Now it's easy to pull out for dinners.
Thank you! I have more rice recipes coming soon😁😁
Nice! I use mostly the 32 oz/quart jars because they fit most recipes perfectly. I’m also working on some other flavors😁😁

Thank you for this.

Never thought about doing this! Thank you.... will add some fresh jalapeño for a little heat.
Sounds great!😁
I'm thinking those wonderful ideas for " Gifts In A Jar" thank you for sharing.
You are so wonderful. You should publish a book.
Best Wishes❤
Yes!! Homemade gifts are the best!😁😁
I made 2 of the rices the Spanish and Chicken for my grand baby. I would have loved to make the bf but she is allergic to yeast. The noodles I used were gluten free the family really liked it. Thank you
WOW!!!!! Many thanks! New follower!!!
Edited to add: this is amazing to cook in a rice cooker.
Thanks and welcome to the family!😁😁
Love these! Tell the haters of Knorr to kick rocks. I love better than bullion, but Knorr is so much cheaper and it works! These would be great for homemade Christmas presents!
Lol thanks!😁
I was todays years old when I realized Rice a Roni consisted of rice and pasta😅😅 Totally going to try this out. Looks great.
Lol thanks!!😁😁
For 5 years, I have been unable to eat rice a Roni store bought, because I am allergic to nuts, they add slivers of almonds. I can't wait to try this. Thank you
Oh I’m so glad it’s helpful! These taste better than the boxes from the store😁
@@TalesFromAnEmptyNest When I make it, I will let you know, but I was drooling as you were making. lol
@ 😂😂
You know I'm loving everything you post & I, personally, prefer the knorr brands so ty. You keep doing you boo. You can't please everyone & as you always say, adjust it to fit what you want or like 😊. I also don't like onions but I don't feel the need to fuss about those who do 🙃. Another great video Tammy.
Thank you Carla!😊😊
I love videos like this. All the works been done by good cooks that know what cookin's about.
Glad you like them!😁
I love Rice-a-roni. Will definitely try this. Could you use orzo instead of vermicelli? It's a different shape, but it is tiny. Or just put the vermicelli in a plastic bag and wail on it with your meat tenderizer hammer thingy. Get out some frustrations at the same time.
Lol you could do either the orzo or the therapy session😂😂
I use to buy the pasta broken up but it is not that hard to break up your own. Thanks for posting this I love rice a roni. I always use knorr bouillon
It is pretty easy to break it up😁😁
Knorr bouillon is great. I use it all the time.
😁😁
Im curious to know how much it costs to make these. I haven't even bought a box of rice a roni in yrs. Its just too much for me for a meal. I'm a widow and I was thinking of cutting the ingredients in half when i cook them. I'd be getting twice as many meals from one jar. This might be a solution for me. 😊
Look through the comments. I roughly figured this out when someone else asked😁😁
@@TalesFromAnEmptyNest Thanks. I'm a new subscriber and I'm loving your videos.
@@RoseSimpson1111 thank you so much and welcome to the family!😁
How many cups of broth do you use to cook it? Im so excited to do this!! Thank you for helping me learn to cook!!
When you cook it, you will use 2 tbsp butter or oil, 1 cup of the rice/pasta mix and 2 cups of water or broth (plus the seasonings of course)🙂🙂
You are heaven sent my dear!! 🙏🏻☺️@@TalesFromAnEmptyNest
@ 😊😊😊
This is too awesome! Just THINK of all the different spices you can use!
Yes!! Any flavor you can dream up!😁😁
Mom rarely did boxed sides so at almost 60 I'm discovering that there is spaghetti in RICE a roni.:) Looks tasy, very convenient, and much cheaper than the boxed stuff. Can't wait to try.
Lol yep! Thank you! I’m about to be 50 and I learn something new everyday lately😁😁
What a great idea. I like to home make things like this to avoid some of the things found in pre-packaged, process foods. That being said, I was shocked to see what is in those Knorr bouillons. I'm rethinking how to season this pasta/rice mix. Thanks for all the great ideas you inspire !
Thanks! You can definitely use an alternative 🙂
New subscriber!
Love this idea. A great convenience and cost savings. ❤
Thanks and welcome to the family!😁
I love Knorr, I use it when I'm hungry but shouldn't eat due to my diabetes and just make a cup of hot salty beef broth. Yummy
😊😊
Oh wow you've done it again all these great ideas for me to make and stock my pantry. All 3 of these are my favorite so I know homemade will be even better!! Can't wait for another freezer meal prep video! ❤😊❤
I’m gonna be working through my current freezer meals for a while lol. But there will be more in the future😁😁
I come here for the normalcy as much as the recipes. Thank you!
Lol thanks!😁
Orzo works for the broken pasta, I just bought some 7oz bags of short vermicelli from Amazon for $.50 that is similar to the small bags at Aldi's.
I’ll have to look for the bags on Amazon! My Aldi didn’t have any🙂
@TalesFromAnEmptyNest It’s La Moderna. I like the idea of storing the mix in jars. It's very convenient and neater than just putting it bags.
@@anntowle1706 thanks!😁
I make my own chicken ricearoni but I use a pkg of Chicken noodle soup mix to one cup of rice. I usually add a bit more chicken boullion as the stock in the soup mix isnt quite enough. When I add my water tho, if I dont add about 2.5 to 2.75 cups of water, the rice isnt cooked enough.
Nice😁
Neat idea. Thanks for the inspiration.
@@lindawilliams2716 most welcome.
I buy that Knorr Caldo De Pollo bouillon by the gallon and I use it almost daily, love this flavor.. it’s great for canning too; thanks for the video it is sure helpful

I don’t know about that. I’m not a youngin anymore lol. Welcome to the family!😁😁
😅
I'm going to try this instead of the knorr sides. Way cheaper.
It tastes better too😁😁
If you "simply" mix the seasoning in with the rice & pasta when storing, it will mostly sink to the bottom. ** For those looking to cut corners.
Very true!🙂
They probably didn't think about that. Too busy "simplifying".
If I were going to do that, I would simply put it into 3 smaller jars in the first place. Then it wouldn't matter.
@@Romans828girl 👍 (When I watched the video, I figured there was 'a reason' she didn't 'just' add the spices. Glad I figured it out before 'disaster' 😁) I really like your idea of packing separately!
Hey that's pretty awesome thank you I'm a new subscriber. It's nice to see things like this that we can make ourselves at home without all that added preservatives and junk we don't need.

Just found you and this is great! Wish you did the rice pilaf. Thank you!
Thanks! No specific rice pilaf, but I do have 3 more seasoned rice mixes coming this week😁
brilliant! I am always looking for food ideas for my co workers as a Christmas gift and this would work! I gave homemade chicken bouillon last year and it was a big hit. thanks for a great recipe!
Sounds great! I’m doing the same😁
I haven't heard the stories about Knorr bullion being bad. Living proof here, I've been using it while cooking for my tribe with no issues. I've not found anything better. Hater's gonna hate. Bless their hearts! Thank you for the recipes! I've just found your channel. We sound allot alike so it eases my homesick some.
It’s the MSG that people don’t like. On another note, I’m glad I can help a tiny bit with homesickness ❤️
Great recipes we grew up with! Perfect for long-term food prep without a lot of added chemicals. And sealed, each jar should last a long time. I figure the use by date would be the same as the use by date on the rice and noodles. Thanks for doing the work!
Thank you so much!😁
Brilliant! Thank you for doing all the figurin' so we all can follow along without the struggle!!
Lol you’re welcome!😁😁
new subbie here!!! thanks for sharing...I love making these kind of meals for my independent 90 yr old dad
Thank you and welcome to the family! I hope your sweet daddy loves them😁😁
There is NOTHING bad about Knorr bouillon! That is the only brand I use and love it!!! Awesome videos thank you for sharing your fabulous tips and cooking methods.
Thanks so much😁
This looks so easy to have on hand an like you said you know whats in it. I use to make the spanish rice when my daughter was little and she loved it. The suggestion of Christmas gifts is great idea espically for my girls an my grandkids. I am gonna try these . An you don't have to use the darn canner either. I love canning but it does get to be to much some days . Thank you.
Thank you! They really are so simple to throw together 😁
I think you’re right! Give this a try…it’s way better than the boxed stuff😁😁
You should give us approximate prices for these.
Each jar makes 3 boxes. It should be easy to figure out the cost with the ingredients I list and compare that to what your store charges per box🙂
Store charges about 248 a box. With a lot of chemicals in it
I have a friend who is vegetarian. Can I simply leave out the boullion, or should I add something like more herbs and spices to boost the flavour? If I make it, I will use my home made stocks, so I can make multiple batches if possible.
You can use a vegetable bouillon 😁
Thank you so much! I have all 3 bullion flavors, rice, and the pasta in my pantry right now.
Perfect!😁
Fantastic idea! I love this!
Thanks sis!!😁😁😁
I’m so excited to have found you! I’m trying to go as unprocessed as possible. 😃
Also, I’ve used orzo pasta instead of the vermicelli; it’s already “rice-sized.” No breaking up required.
Yes, several people have mentioned orzo. Some of my family is going more unprocessed as well🙂
Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe! Also, would mind sharing where you purchased your wooden salt and pepper container? I would love to purchase one just like it. Thanks!

I made this the other day because I watched this video and it unlocked a childhood craving! lol. I’m telling you…it’s better than the original but with the same nostalgic flavors!
That is awesome!😁
I'm dying to find a mix like this for the Knorr Broccoli, Cheese, and rice! My kids love that, but I'd much rather figure out how to make it without all the stuff you find in the packets.
I’m actually working on some different mixes with cheese, so maybe coming soon😁
@TalesFromAnEmptyNest That's awesome, I can't wait to see it!

Thanks so much and welcome to the family!😁😁
Thank you for standing up to the brand bullies! I’m so sick of seeing people think they can tell creators how to and what to use, I HATE it when people feel that’s ok, it isn’t! Get over yourself and your brands of crap you want others to use. Unless you are willing to pay for it shut up!
I just share what I use and try to encourage people to use what they have access to, can afford, or prefer😊😊
To me, Knorr is the best bouillon. It's the only one I use. They also have a vegetable bouillon that adds flavor to any dish.
😁😁😁
Again, lovely gifts for the holidays. So nice to know what's in our food.
It really is!😁
