I don’t eat pork due to religious beliefs. But you can substitute smoked turkey wings. Guess it won’t work for your beliefs but other times it will and you can find then cheap after Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Fun fact: When onions come out of the ground, their outer layers are the same as their inner layers. After harvesting, the onions are hung up to dry in a cool, dry place for months until that papery outer layer forms from the outermost petal. This is how producers extend the shelf life of onions. That dried outer layer keeps out excess moisture, dirt, bugs, what have you.

Please don't use "turkey bacon". I can guarantee you it won't work out anything like you might imagine. I turned to "turkey bacon" right after my heart attack and my cardiologist pitched a fit. He just told me to cut down on regular bacon instead. I was so relieved he told me that. WAY too processed. As far as not being good at cooking on a grill, get you a pellet grill and a Bluetooth meat probe. It's super easy to get great cooked meats. Walmart has some pretty good ones pretty cheap

This is pretty close to what we have. I usually make a pot of 15 bean soup with ham and some cornbread. I thought about throwing some greens in with the soup.

Great recipes. Not a huge black eye pea fan. Always put a dash of vinegar on my cabbage when I eat it. Maybe it's an Irish thing. Cornbread with honey, yes please. Those country style ribs are great. Can't always find them. Best to you in 2025!

It all looked so amazing and I’m gonna have to try that cornbread! My poor ex husband. We were early in the marriage and pinching pennies and I made fried cabbage. I have no clue what happened - all of us ate it - but somehow he got terrible stomach bloating. We actually ended up in an emergency dr visit. He was fine the next day but I never made that again. 😢

Hi Tammy! Love the recipes!!!!😊 In my sweet corn bread I put honey in instead of brown sugar. And in my fried cabbage I put everything in you do, but I add some smoked paprika and a teaspoon of yellow mustard. So good! I love to eat it with pan fried pork chops.
