I have always thought it a blessing that the children were asleep and unhurt when Jayne's fatal accident occurred. Mickey Hargitay's wife apparently stepped right in as mom to them, and they raised them in a loving and stable home. I think Jayne was almost childlike herself, and would've been glad they were well taken care of. Jayne's grandchildren are a beautiful tableaux of ethnicities, both adopted and biological. First, when I was fourteen years old in 1966, I had the very same lovely, white eyelet, empire waist dress that Jayne wore on Merv Griffin. I remember it was made by a dress company called Petti. It was one of my very favorite dresses, and seeing it now brings back happy memories of my teenage years. I also remember a story my best friend told me about meeting Jayne Mansfield. When my friend was a little girl back in the mid 1950s, she and her family were staying at an expensive hotel. Jayne ran up to the family's infant boy. She told the family how much she loved babies and said how beautiful the baby was. Jayne's love for babies and children shines through in this video.

She may have said she hated the sex symbol tag but she continued to use it to get work. Unlike Marilyn Monroe who had dramatic parts and tried desperately to get those roles or starting her own production company Jayne became a cartoonish character and then went to Italy when parts in the USA dried up. I always thought she was beautiful and a great comedienne but knew she was limited. She chose to sing these 2 songs that were made famous by her number one rival.
Maybe and I'm just spit balling here, a cop show which shows that in the criminal justice system sexually based crimes are especially heinous and in New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate the vicious felonies and are members of an elite squad.
@@stephaniewood1547 You're spot on with that. It's just terrible that her beloved mother died in such a horrific way---growing up without one is extremely difficult, but Mariska's one tough cookie, just like her character on L&O:SVU.
Jayne had a total of 5 kids. One, Jayne Marie, with her first husband, three with Mickey Hargitay (Mickey, Jr., Zoltan and Mariska) and one with her third husband (the baby in this video).
Sixteen years ago I named my cat after her - I've watched her from her very 1st episode of L&O, I've followed her humanitarian work, and I've admired her ever since. Mariska is an amazing human being (I hope if aliens land, they talk to her first) she has a heart of gold - my gosh, she even started out that way! And what a fine living tribute to her Mother she is (Jane had a higher IQ than Einstein) - thank you for posting this video, what a sweetheart!
5:52 I was born in ‘70 and even knowing and remembering times being different back then, this line about “feeding them in front of us” just hit me as really crass and tasteless. It was the guy next to Merv (not sure who that is). Watching Jayne just take it in stride with a laugh being a super pro but I can imagine inside she was like “this shit again”. Just feel talented hosts can work the innuendo where it’s out there but not so schoolyard.
Yes it was. I remember my pregnant relatives blowing smoke everywhere. The men would let us have a sip of their beer, and the ladies drank cocktails. Luckily, we were all born without any problems.
Yes, completely normal. It was nothing to have a few drinks n smoke while pregnant too!! I am a huge fan of 1950/60s movies n tv, literally everyone smoked, they would offer cigarettes to guests like an hors d'oeuvre. As a nurse it makes me cringe lol
Aww, this classic taping is Hollywood Gold! Jayne Mansfield loved her children cared for them and acted as well! Mariska is the splitting image of her mom. Mariska was in charge at 2 years old. Jayne loved pink, and I do too! I admire how Mickey Hargitay built Jayne a Pink Palace in Hollywood! They don't make men like this anymore. Love how Mariska got her own show as an adult! Beautiful family. RIP Jayne 🙏💐💖🎀💖🙏
Oh my god she's beyond adorable. Already the lieutenant right then. Telling everybody what to do. And she looks so much like her mother. It's heartbreaking.
Beautiful family, I feel for those children losing their mom so young. Little "Maria" grew up looking just like her mom. Watching this though it's evident how some women acted & spoke in public to earn a living, part of the game I guess. Other than Mr. Treacher the other two spoke to her disrespectfully with their sexist comments. I'm sure in her head she called them a few choice names which they more than deserved. She would be so proud of her children now, especially that little girl who did grow up and "got her own show" and is respected as both a person, a mom and an actress.
I wonder what the boys grew up doing. I liked Jayne and always felt bad for her. She wanted to be a serious actor not as a blonde bimbo. Mariska wasn't much older when the accident happened. So glad the kids were not killed.
Everyone here commenting "oh she looks just like her mom" & "she grew up to look just like her mom". I can see some similarities, but people! Get your eyes checked!
My first time seeing Jayne Mansfield was in a movie called The Wayward Bus have to admit i sat through it a few times just because i just fell in love with Jayne was so sorry to hear about her Early Passing. Love you Jayne Mansfield.
Very sad indeed; it's all but a miracle her children made it out alive since more than half the people in the car did not (including some of the pets 😭) That said, I'm not sure what kind of a person or parent she really was; I know she had a lot of issues herself, and her Wikipedia biography does not paint her or her parenting abilities in the best light. But it's hard to know how much of that was due to the fact she led a rough life herself and was raised in an era that was not kind to women, to say the least. Not to say any of that is an excuse for her behavior or the things she condoned, like the fact she was apparently complicit in the fact her first daughter was abused by her first husband (iirc)*. Which is a bummer because I like the way she presents herself , interacts with her children, and I really like her subtle low-key sarcastic humor 😂 I really just hope her children felt as loved by her as it seems on screen ❤ *Important Edit: So apparently it wasn't one of Jayne's husbands but one of her lovers that was the abuser, AND Jayne herself was ALSO an active participant!! Apparently this is why she kept saying how the group "lost one one along the way". While I thought she was just being funny in regards to the fact one of her kids just didn't show up that day, she actually meant it because she wound up losing custody of her [eldest] daughter after the abuse was brought to court. I cannot say how much I now regret my laughing emoji because it wasn't sarcasm at all. It was actually her laughing off the entire incident of abusing her daughter and then losing custody of that same daughter. I just...I have no freaking words.
@@unconventionaltv8285No. Jayne Marie was not abused by Jayne's husband, she was abused by one of Jayne's lovers. (And Jayne herself!!) Ya, a real mother of the year. Not.
@@Missditabomb ah, thanks for the correct; I thought I might've had that wrong but wasn't entirely sure. Ugh, that sucks Jayne herself was actively a part of that too. @@Mister_Listener You can find pictures of her during this time period, in swim suits. She worked on and retained her stunning figure. Mariska's father Mickey was a body builder and a health buff. Both he and Jayne worked out, way before it was popular for women to do so. She obviously kept up with that after their divorce.
@@Larry-gn1xj i thought the same thing and never realized she ever did any singing, all i know is she had big boobs and she was Mariska’s Mom. But she seemed very sweet and unassuming and as an entertainer i can see she was top notch.
In a recent episode ("Probability of Doom" S25 E7), Maria grew up and became a cop!!! Olivia reunited with her, and Maria invited her to have dinner with her family. I hope we see more of Maria in future SVU episodes; no doubt, she will be Olivia's protege if she ends up at SVU.
The other post said it was 7 languages. How about 9? What about 12? Ridiculous that people want to try to make her seem so intelligent citing " facts" they heard. Jayne put game above almost everything. She may have had a high IQ but she lacked common sense. If she did she wouldn't have left hargitay and married Cimber whose son ( on her lap whose name she never mentions) wants nothing to do with his siblings.
People are often pointed in certain directions by those in charge or who they look up to. I think Jayne would have reinvented herself if she had lived longer. Marilyn tried but was kept in her role and if she wasn't murdered, would have been.
Those men (except Arthur) are so immature and loud. When that one guy said “Feed him in front of us!” And they all laughed was so disgusting. Breastfeeding is a neutral act and should never be made to be sexual even if you see the breasts! It’s sad because its almost like Jayne herself has created this happy go lucky personality as a coping mechanism. Women had it so hard.
When he said something about "feeding him in front of us", I thought he was talking about the dog because that was right around the time she was giving the dog a drink of water out of the glass. I thought it was a joke because she was giving the dog water, so he was suggesting that she feed the dog too.
@@ultrapolitanrecordsWell, he's not here to defend himself. I still think he was talking about the dog. It's too coincidental that she was giving the dog water on the stage at that same moment. I also think it was very silly to have the dogs out on stage. Making a joke about it makes sense to me.

I always thought she was beautiful and a great comedienne but knew she was limited. She chose to sing these 2 songs that were made famous by her number one rival.
Lmao them saying “Listen, get your own show, kid!” to Mariska 😅
Maybe and I'm just spit balling here, a cop show which shows that in the criminal justice system sexually based crimes are especially heinous and in New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate the vicious felonies and are members of an elite squad.
And 33 years later, she did.
Most kids don’t listen to what their parents tell them to do, but she did….😂
@@stephaniewood1547 You're spot on with that.
A most wonderful beautiful woman
This video made me very happy on a very boring and sad day.
same here
Yes Mariska is as beautiful as her mother...so sad they allost her @such a young age,RIP Jayne❤
Yet she chose to showcase her "rocks" and caboose...
So we remember Einstein.
Loved Merv
Always a great interviewer
He was a creep
Terrible interviewer. Always trying to make something happen when it wasn't and really didn't have any charm.
What a shame Jayne left us so soon, she looked as though she was a wonderful family mother... xxx
She was a wonderful mother wasn’t she 🥰🥰🥰
She wasn’t. You should read about her eldest daughter.
I had no idea she had five children. They were so beautiful and well behaved.
Such a beautiful family. So tragic how Jayne died. Mariska is a credit to her parents. Looks like a loving perfect family. ❤
It was very sad losing Jayne she was so beautiful I remember her beauty her children were beautiful thoughts go to them. ❤❤❤❤❤
Look at the smoke going into the babies face . That was so normal then.
Yes it was. I remember my pregnant relatives blowing smoke everywhere. The men would let us have a sip of their beer, and the ladies drank cocktails. Luckily, we were all born without any problems.
@@51Saffron Barbara Bush boasted that she smoked and drank while pregnant with George W., which explains a few things.
Who would ever thought Mariska would grow up to star in the best crime show Law and order
And if she ever leaves I’ll stop watching the show. Who could ever top Mariska? 😁
Spitting image
Technically it's Dick Wolfs show, Mariska just acts in the show.
Oh my god she's beyond adorable. Already the lieutenant right then. Telling everybody what to do. And she looks so much like her mother. It's heartbreaking.
She doesn't look a thing like her mother...she gets her looks from her father.
To me she is showing what really matters to her. Her family, including her beloved chihuahua's. Respect.
I don't think Merv was very nice to the family.
I wonder what the boys grew up doing. I liked Jayne and always felt bad for her. She wanted to be a serious actor not as a blonde bimbo. Mariska wasn't much older when the accident happened. So glad the kids were not killed.
He wasn't nice.
What a gem. Thanks
You were cute back then Mariska and you still are. Detective Olivia Benson at 6 years old, already a TV star 🌟
She wasn't 6 years old in this video, and it wasn't filmed in 1966.
Internet facts 🤷
Look at all the kids & pets; we can see where Mariska gets her empathy for others. So sad that it’s always the good parents who seem to die young.
What a wholesome tv show. Mariska was so cute!
Oh, Jayne was so lovely, and it looks like she was a great mother, too, and adored her beautiful children. So tragic that they lost her so young.
Which is a bummer because I like the way she presents herself , interacts with her children, and I really like her subtle low-key sarcastic humor 😂 I really just hope her children felt as loved by her as it seems on screen ❤
*Important Edit: So apparently it wasn't one of Jayne's husbands but one of her lovers that was the abuser, AND Jayne herself was ALSO an active participant!!
How freaking terrible 💔😢 that just makes me so infuriated and heartbroken for her daughter.
Edit: I have now updated my initial response to indicate the erroneous info I initially presented
Nice copy. Love Mariska.❤
What a good mama and entertainer she was. Brought a big smile to my face.
Honestly Mariska looks like Her Mum ,especially when She smiling i think, and nose and eyes
Jayne wanted be like Marilyn,She sings even Marliyn song, well its a a bit strange fate ,both dies young
Marilyn at 36 and Jayne at 34
She talked like her also. Was that her real voice or did she start talking like that after becoming a actress? How sad if they felt the need to talk like that back then.
Merv to baby Marissa: “Listen get your own show kid, will ya!”
And she did!
Oh boy she did! The best on TV.👍👍
I loved Arthur Treacher...lovely man.
When little Mariska crosses her arms at 10:17 😆She still makes that face on SVU when she's done with something or somebody 😄
She was gorgeous! Alot more stable, then Marilyn Monroe. A stable childhood.. She had 5 kids. Tragic, she had such a short life.
Haha little mariska had me crackin' up laughing bro!🤣
Happy 60th Mariska, from one to another 🎉
Wow. A year later that precious Jayne, wife & mother was killed in a car crash. An epic loss for her family.
💔
This woman had how many children and STILL maintained her figure. WOW.
You cant really see her body. She was totally hidden in that dress.
She had to.. It was her ticket to fame/ $. She was a sex symbol. If she didn't she would have been out of a job.
Sad she couldn't sing.
@@Larry-gn1xj i thought the same thing and never realized she ever did any singing, all i know is she had big boobs and she was Mariska’s Mom. But she seemed very sweet and unassuming and as an entertainer i can see she was top notch.
The morning show! Merv got away with everything. And Arthur Treacher calling him, Merrrr-vin. I loved this show. Thanks for the memories.
What is sweet interview😊 my mom would have been 8 years old around that time. I remember her telling me that she liked the show
On SVU one of Mariska’s best episodes was when she was on call with a girl, named Maria 🥺🥺
I like that she kept their Hungarian names
A beautiful woman in every single way. Gorgeous, stunning. RIP.
❤ Thank you for this video😊 Mariska is my fav. Then and now.
Jane had an iq of 149,spoke 5 languages, played classical violin and piano.
The other post said it was 7 languages. How about 9? What about 12? Ridiculous that people want to try to make her seem so intelligent citing " facts" they heard. Jayne put game above almost everything. She may have had a high IQ but she lacked common sense. If she did she wouldn't have left hargitay and married Cimber whose son ( on her lap whose name she never mentions) wants nothing to do with his siblings.
she couldn't show it just a little?
People are often pointed in certain directions by those in charge or who they look up to. I think Jayne would have reinvented herself if she had lived longer. Marilyn tried but was kept in her role and if she wasn't murdered, would have been.
Her tone of voice is so soothing . It sounds like she’s singing even when she’s speaking
@@ultrapolitanrecords I think that "feed him in front of us" remark was about the dog because she was giving the dog a drink of water.
@@ultrapolitanrecordsWell, he's not here to defend himself. I still think he was talking about the dog. It's too coincidental that she was giving the dog water on the stage at that same moment. I also think it was very silly to have the dogs out on stage. Making a joke about it makes sense to me.
Henny Youngman was a creep and Merv's not far behind. Very condescending.
He would've been canceled today
One of the most beautiful women in the world. So beautiful and intelligent and talented. I own all her movies. My family loved her, still do. I am a fan of her daughter as well. I watch SVU since day one. Mariska blooms like her too. Rip Jayne, I love you 💙♥️💜
You can tell her kids are perplexed by their mother's strange act on TV.
Jayne really was such a beautiful women in every way. The way she is with her children is so lovely and her voice is lovely too. So tragic she died :(
What a beautiful family.God blessed you and your family.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Not sure what family you feel “god blessed” as one year later, these kids were in a horrific car accident where their mother was decapitated.
That seems like a perverse thing to say.
@@Mister_Listener perverse? Sadly it’s a fact that she died in a horrible way only one year after this interview so for someone to say “god blessed them” is not in my opinion an accurate way to describe the situation and I highly doubt Mariska and her brothers would see that they were blessed But you (and others) may see it differently.
So sad she passed away so young, poor kids 😢
