I think Garen made the right choice by playing so passively. But honestly, what *could* he do? Garen is such a barebones champ; there isn't a lot of room to mix up your approach.
You literally just have to give minions and absorb pressure. You don't have any other options. Pray for jg and absorb pressure as best you can, while sacking waves and soaking xp

Had a good match lately where I encountered a Vayne top, so i countered her so hard with Talon, every time she gets to my range in lane she lost half her health. I've done my bid to punish a Vayne top. Unfortunately, still lost the match, was out of my control that the enemy team are smarter with their engage in team fights (a.k.a my teammates are dumb cause they keep getting into bad fights). But at least I punished the Vayne, she did not have fun at all during the laning phase.

In my matches, even knowing that some of my losses are in my account, the most of the are because of terrible teams, mechanically and psychologily, they tilt or give up too easily.

Glad riot purposefully makes Vayne top a thing, a ranged champ that has less range than most other ADCs, so she’s weak in bot lane, but has dash every 2 seconds, insane move speed for kiting, invisibility, and an attack that knocks you to the next state over for if she screws up and actually gets hit. Enjoyable lane for all top laners
