    The villain Thrax was actually a pretty cool villain if you ask me. Love his design and kickass voice performance by Mr. Fishburne.

    My favorite part of this movie would probably be the villain. I thought his entrance was pretty awesome, despite being 'a Family Picture.' And he even seemed rather intimidating.

      ragmondead THINGS THAT INSIDE OUT HAS IN COMMON WITH OSMOSIS JONES:
      - there is a "control center" of sorts in the brain (but to be fair, in Inside Out, the control center is operated by Riley's five emotions, whereas in Osmosis Jones, it's just governed by some single power-hungry one blowhard dude)
      - dreams are treated like movies (but Inside Out additionally delves into the process of how dreams are born, comparing it to the way a movie is staged, rehearsed and produced)
      - the subconscious is depicted as a strange, surreal, confusing, frightening place (but honestly, is there really any other way to depict the subconscious other than by making it scary and confusing?)
      So... three things. Inside Out has three things in common with Osmosis Jones. And honestly, all of these similarities could very well be coincidental.

      +Thomas Mason but they are important to story as a hole. ironic how Dough likes inside out because it shows how we need getitive ferlings for the hole but says just leave live action stuff out because is not as good. I liked Shane and Dough doesn't get concept Frank is suposted to a lazy ideot bump .but there's an election going on inside him entire body. and one problem i had with inside out. the problem is settled to easily. know it good to talk about your feelings but as if Anger Discuss and Fear never thought of just saying they wanna go back. if the problem is all psychological how about make it a pretty lame exscuss how cold bonse back ok but doesn't eating rotten euster in first place like that eggs. it wasn't what happened its him. get the picture. and wile their planning weak end trip there's a serial killer planning to kill him from the inside.

    • @andimason3370
      @andimason3370 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smartass012 O.K. Firstly please take more time with the grammar in your comments that took me about 6 times reading it through to understand what you were saying.
      Secondly it's not that seeing live action segments is a bad idea, it's that they were badly done. But more crucially I don't really think you properly understood Inside Out. It wasn't supposed to have a bad guy, or be in any way a realistic interpretation of the mind... but a metaphor for the mental difficulties and stresses of growing up. The "Bad guy" isn't a crackling villain or hardship, it's just life. The difficulty of having to confront the realities of the world as you grow up and come to emotional maturity. That is a far better and more profound moral than anything seen in this film.

    • @RedPillCosby-012
      @RedPillCosby-012 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Mason that what bothers me the most so much interesting stuff really going on our brains really are little people or little pieces of going on in Brain entire body. . and worse the them of forgetting every you leaned in childhood no wonder teens are so immature. Remering childhood won't make a child in fact that's how you mature .BingBong could have gotten his own childhood memory island . .I found a video titled if BingBong mad it to headquarters. . And another thing personality was built up on more then just one memory also Small thing you even think about. . And More then Modes behavior also routes for trains of thought places to store memories. . And also nothing happened between age 3&11 no advice favorite movies lines .modesty.

    • @RedPillCosby-012
      @RedPillCosby-012 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Mason 3&11 is when parents pay attention so this probably More a depiction of minds of parents rather then actual childs minds . and sense is childhood so perfect I seen kids younger then Riley I my self have had mixed emotions and even go through similar situations highschool is known for. Its selective memory why childhood seems so nice . again based of mind of parents not actual children. . and emotionally neutral memories. Though intellectual aspects of the mind are neglected or at best breeth mention . but I did grow up on Ozzy &Drix. And all the other little people run my Head and body. Some thing smart as. Inside Out mind works closed thing to neurons are under appreciated islands not even inhabitanted

    I love this film. I despise the live-action parts but the animated parts are awesome. The villain is one of the most underrated ones in animated history and it was kind of like the Magic School Bus of movies. Only in a way that it saved you from notes and boring documentaries. My science teacher showed us this movie in the middle of our body systems unit and everyone loved it.

    Osmosis Jones may have its flaws, but design and animation are awesome.
    All the cells, viruses and other little inhabitants of the human body look like freakin' cool aliens! If you replace any of the pirates from Treasure Planet with Thrax, nobody will say that he looks out of place ;)

  • @roarshach13
    @roarshach13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    With the cop cliche thing, I feel like a lot of creators and even viewers try to defend that sort of thing by saying "Oh it's a parody/satire. They're fully aware of how dumb it is!" Newsflash: just having cliches with nothing done to subvert or make fun of them in anyway does NOT make it satire. If you want a perfect example of how to parody cliches look at The Incredibles.
    First Frozone talks about how an old villain of his started monologuing when he could have easily killed him, pointing out how dumb that particular cliche is. Later, Syndrome starts monologuing to Mr. Incredible when, again, he can easily kill him. Instead of just having him go on like most movies would do, Mr Incredible actually tries to take advantage of the situation by attacking him, inciting Syndrome to shout "You sly dog! You got me monologuing!" THAT'S how you parody a cliche!

    • @roarshach13
      @roarshach13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** I usually get those words confused, which is why I included them both. Thank you! But my point obviously still stands. And yeah, I agree with that. Disney was thrashed in that movie XD

    • @J4hk2
      @J4hk2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +roarshach13 The tropes are being parodied on the grounds of the whole premise of them being in a human body. Presenting the cop/crime genres in the context of white blood cell cops trying to stop infectious criminals counts as the genre being parodied.
      Not everything has to be meta fourth wall breaking jokes in order to be parodies, honestly these days breaking the fourth wall feels like the easiest (and therefore cheapest) way to make writing seem clever.
      And no, I'm not saying the Incredibles was a bad film. And hell, even that played it's superhero/spy fiction tropes pretty straight from time to time. For example I don't recall any meta jokes about how Syndrome's base was in a volcano on a secluded island, they just put it there because it simply suited that genre of film.

  • @apple0pie0nation
    @apple0pie0nation 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I really liked this movie as a kid, but I HATED the live action parts. They were so uninteresting and just stupid that I couldn't stand them. At least they were only a few minutes long each but I really hated it anyways. Animated parts, sure the cop cliches were pointless but the animation, Thrax, and the presentation of how the human body worked on the inside I loved. Haven't seen the movie in probably a decade but from what I saw in the review, I'll still like the animated parts, and still hate the live-action parts.
    If the live-action parts were used as a vessel for the animated part's story as opposed to trying to be its own thing I think the movie would've been much better.

    Am I the only one who doesn't think Inside Out was a rip-off of Osmosis Jones? The movie only has THREE things in common, and it's all COMPLETELY coincidental.

    • @ZomifiedHam
      @ZomifiedHam 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean Johnson no, there are people who haven't seen osmosis jones, so there's those people. otherwise no.

    • @CaptJosmy
      @CaptJosmy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ZomifiedHam It's not a rip-off, it has things in common, there's a difference. It happens inside of someone and some elements are similar, but apart from that, the story, the atmosphere, the characters etc. are completely different.
      On the one hand you have a cops movie about defeating an evil disease trying to kill their owner, on the other side an emotional movie about a little girl who is going through a hard time and who needs to learn to accept her own feelings, even when they're not happy and joyful. Where's the rip-off? Ah yes, they're both inside of the human body, that definitely counts as a "total rip-off".

    • @ZomifiedHam
      @ZomifiedHam 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      CaptJosmy i see your terrible argument. if people ripped off plotlines, landscapes, setpieces AND characters off of things so willy-nilly people would call them out more often. and nobody wants to be called out.
      some scenes are similar, but not enough to say the whole plot is similar, some set pieces are VERY GODDAMNED SIMILAR but not enough to say the art style as a whole was similar. some of the places were not the same concept, but it was still the same exact landscape, and both of them had really basic archetypes for characters.
      nothing is coincidental, being inside a body is what these movies are about, one did it first and inspired another group to do the same idea differently. these movies are both great. (except for the live action.)

    • @CaptJosmy
      @CaptJosmy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ZomifiedHam "i see your terrible argument" that honestly sounds like the words of someone who doesn't see nor wants to see the argument.
      I still can't see it as a rip-off. That's like saying "this has space and aliens? STAR WARS RIP-OFF" even though the story and the characters and the atmosphere is different. Because, again, those elements are very different in both movies.
      That this movie INSPIRED THEM I can accept (if it's true, I don't know) That it was a rip-off, no. There's a huge difference.
      Plus, how can you call it a rip-off if you say the movie is great? The core of the rip-off is that it's bad; at least way worse than the original. That's absolutely not the case here. I won't say one is better, that depends on your taste I guess, but you can't say it's a rip-off when it's that good.

    • @ZomifiedHam
      @ZomifiedHam 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      CaptJosmy thats because i don't want to see the argument.
      you see rip-offs as exclusively bad, so to you a good rip-off clearly cant exist, so you bunch up rip-offs as bad and good movies as original.
      arguing with someone who cant figure that out is like trying to tell a bird to swim. some inherently know whats going on, others drown in their ignorance.
      i dont want to argue with you because i wanted to have fun here, and it makes me sad to argue with you.

    When I was in 8th grade (the second time) I had this great biology teacher. The guy was like Miz Frizzle with low budget magic. At one point we were studying the human body and he had us do an assignment where we were to explain the circulation of the blood cell. Which we had gone over thoroughly.
    I'd seen this movie so many times with my family I just decided to use the concept for this with a female BBall player, street racing, and a blood cell named Zoey.
    Spent 2-3 days on it. And it landed on a cliffhanger but I apparently had the one of the best story in class.
    But that's because everyone else was doing "Did you kids know?" And Magic School bus rip offs. And I believe he holds a copy of it to this day.

    I bet Osmosis Jones would make a better movie without the live action segments and if it's not entirely focused as a cop movie, but rather a multi-role movie with different unique micro-organisms for main characters with different roles to do with the body who all get entangled in the same adventure of saving the human body from Thrax and his gang.

He's gotten better as the seasons continued, and now he has a baby with Lana, and trying his best not to cheat on her, shown when his coworkers tried to make them break up by sending his cyborg girlfriend to his house and he sent her away. He isn't perfect, but at least he is trying, and he doesn't say woman cant do stuff, he's just...really into sex for some reason. I also probably shouldn't even watch the show, being sixteen, but it doesn't bother me.

    I'm just gonna say it, in hindsight, (I saw this film, in parts, like once), there are essentially 2-3 good parts about this film.
    1, David High Pierce, (he was good as Slim in Bug's Life and also perhaps here)
    2, Thrax, (Laurence Fishburne's performance making it even better).
    3, the animated sections, in just the animation in short.

    I personally only ever watch the animated parts and just skip the live action bits.
    Thrax is one of my favorite villains. Its interesting that they made Anthrax a villain. The symptoms are similar and also, Thrax acts like a man made virus. Normal ones usually try to replicate and survive which ultimately results in the death of the host, Thrax however doesn't really seem to mind about his personal safety that much aside from killing as many people as possible.

    As much as I like Mr. Walker is material, I think he gets a little too worked up when a movie pulls cliches. As an aspiring composer and wannabe filmmaker, one thing I've come to learn is that there really isn't anything new under the Sun. The Bible itself says so. therefore, I'm more concerned whether or not a movie pulls off the cliches well. And in Osmosis Jones, they're pulled off reasonably well because the voice actors do such a good job. I think more movie critics who are always talking about originality need to read the book "Steal Like an Artist", which clearly demonstrates that every good idea is a warped form of something else.
    They should also consider a quotation from David O. Russell: "Nothing is a cliche if you're doing it from the heart". And in my opinion, they did the animated portion of Osmosis Jones from the heart. Too bad I can't say the same for the live-action portion, though.

    I can't believe all these comments on this video and yesterday's not knowing the movie existed but being familiar with _Ozzy & Drix_. I feel like I've entered a parallel universe here. It's not a case of people just being too young to remember the movie since the show premiered almost exactly a year after the movie and only ran for two 13-episode seasons on the Kid's WB block before being cancelled in mid-2004. The movie ended up tanking at the box office (it was another in a string of expensive failures that led to Warner Bros.' decision to finally shutter their Feature Animation division in 2004) but there was a huge marketing push before it premiered in theaters, so it's surprising to hear that people don't remember it. The show wasn't exactly a big hit either.

However, I will admit that if they did put more animation into it and not so much live action this really could have been a great movie. Also, I loved Thrax as a villain (even if he didn't say much). I haven't seen Inside Out but knowing it's a Pixar film that means there's probably a lot of flaws in it that people missed because it tug on their heart strings. Same thing happened with Toy Story 3, you'll have to wait a while until you see the actual flaws. Doesn't mean it'll be shitty, just overrated as hell like most Pixar films.
    Osmosis Jones as a concept is solid, the animated scenes were good and while the buddy cop tropes are generic, it's at least not boring to watch. The live action scenes are suppose to create tension (especially at the end when Frank is literally dying) but he's such an unlikable character that you don't really care whether or not he dies. Take away the live action scenes and it's a good film that needed more time to explain the backstory (which could of been added if the live action scenes were reduced). I agree with Rob, it should be remade because the idea as a whole is solid. After seeing the success with Inside Out and Warner Bros. going back to making animated movies with The Lego Movie (use that team for OJ, and you got a movie that rivals Inside Out in quality).

    When they were talking about developing the villain more, it kind of reminded me that he does have a somewhat interesting motivation: he obsessed with making it into the medical books and breaking records for his fatalities, and he even keeps trophies. It was glazed over in the review, but that glowing chain he carries is actually pieces of his victim's brains, which is what he steals to kill the host. It's both badass and really, REALLY morbid, especially for a Family Picture™. It would be kind of cool to see that expanded on more, and maybe find out WHY he's so obsessed with it, or even where he came from and what kind of virus he is.
    That, or just more badass scenes of him being menacing and giving kids nightmares for years to come. I'm not picky.
