The folks behind this video (Descend Scuba) run a SPECTACULAR dive operation in Milford Sound (Deep South of New Zealand) - some of the most unique cold water diving in the world. Tech & CCR friendly - heeeeaaaaaps of black water goodies for the hardy diver willing to tolerate the cold!
Here’s a quirky thing. Technically, because of the fresh water layer from the alpine runoff in to the sound, you’re doing an “altitude” dive in the ocean.
You guys have an energy that is unmatched. Seriously I feel like a kid, finally mesmerized by TH-cam again for hours and hours😂. I know I always leave a some type of thank you comment; but truly, what you guys are doing is amazing! Keep it up guys!
39 years old and can’t even swim. Started watching your channel about 2 months ago after being led here from a Mr. Ballen video. Similar to his channel, I became hooked on yours. Recently, forget dreaming about swimming, I literally dreamed I was diving, planning out laying lines with in caves, worried about the right mixture of air, it was nuts. Woody. Gus. I blame both of you…and I’m grateful 😂 You successfully turned a guy who can’t even swim into an addict on diving.
Swimming really ain't that tough to learn. It's only getting wet and motivating yourself in a pool... Pick up a few different strokes and do some laps. You'll have a great time and learn something WHILE you get the physical activity you'd ordinarily put forth in a gym... picking up weights just to put them back down... THEN go get a snorkel, fins, and a mask... and repeat. Learn the basics of mask skills while you feel the exponential POWER AND SPEED of fins... It's a blast... AND then you can hit lakes and the ocean... Once you're ready, there's the Discover Scuba shops, and you can dip your feet in the diving stuff before you go beyond your boundaries... Just build up to it. Your heart will thank you, because there's almost NOTHING better for cardio either. ;o)
Start the path to becoming a diver my friend! Learning to swim is the hardest part. Once you get that down, diving's a piece of cake. Go after it! It's indeed addicting!
So, what I heard was we need a Dive Talk meetup in New Zealand. All jokes aside, I'm down for this dive. Australia and New Zealand have always been on my bucket list anyway so this would be a plus.
"We were asked whether we'll do it, Woody I want you to answer after watching." Even without waiting till the end, I know Woody answer was going to be hell yes. 😆
Before I discovered this channel I would never even think about scuba diving, I was afraid it could be dangerous. Thanks to your very informative and addicting videos, I decided to give it a try and yesterday I have my first try scuba!! It was amazing! Cant wait to get certified! Thank you so much guys, you have opened the awesome world of scuba diving for me!!
I went on a drift dive with sturgeons this weekend but the current was nowhere near what we see here! They are FLYING haha must feel amazing to do this dive.
I enjoyed Woody smiling the entire time and topped it off with "we must". You both were like kids on Christmas. Gus couldn't stop grinning bc he absolutely KNEW what Woody's reaction would be. Best dive duo ever!!
This is a roller coaster underwater. Who wouldn't want to do this. And New Zealand has a ton of course gold in these rivers. Very chunky pieces of gold. This is wild. If you decide to go there you could do two things, have a great dive and gold prospecting adventure. You should bring Pioneer Paully with you.
Guys, you seemed to express concern at hitting big rocks, but the current tends to help divert you around those obstacles so it's not hard to avoid stuff. The dead trees look pretty dangerous though!
No expert, but I think my biggest concern on the whole would be those close tangles with trees. Depending on your equipment, you could easily think you're clear but snag a hose (or something) and break a fitting or rupture a seal... or even the hose itself. They're all supposed to be tough and all, but abuse is abuse... AND I meant "concern" when I said that... not like "fear" or even "worry"... just a concern. ;o)
In water that fast water can easily pin you down under overhangs and wedge you between the rock and the river flow. Plenty of people have died that way. As a whitewater kayaker who is normally on top that river drift looks an insane rush. Isn't glacial water so pretty.
That’s my speed, and depth. I do this in the “Punt-ledge River” in Courtenay, BC 🇨🇦 Just my eyes , hands and my breath is all I take with me. Little old for the deeper stuff but still know where it is. Thanks for the smile I got today. (Minus the scooter)
Started watching you guys a few months ago and now I’m getting SDI open water certified in two weeks! Really would like to get into tech diving eventually if I end up liking it. Being from Chicago area makes it a bit tough to get good practice dives in.. any good general tips for economical practice dives to get your numbers up to continue down the tech training pipeline?
I’m a non diver. New subscriber. 70 years old. Almost drown 2x. Scared of water. I can swim. Very claustrophobic. Recently ran across you on TH-cam. So why am I here? Don’t know. But I love it here lol.
This is freaking awesome ! Ok, now i want an open water certification, that's it, i'm sold ! By the way, great choice of music. I'm not a fan of EDM over youtube vids, but this was a perfect match.
This was a freaking AWESOME Video! It was like the coolest underwater roller coaster,..This looks like a blast!! Time to Gear Up Guys, we would love to see y'all do this!!
I went diving with a group of mates in Perth, looking for a sunken WWII landing craft, we were in a current like this and it is insane how much fun it is.
I heard my first mention of the channel in the wild recently. Some random was talking about how they dont dive but have been marathoning dive videos from "these dudes Gus and Woody" i was Hella pumped to hear that.
All of your are absolutely out of your minds. You go into the water, you become part of the food chain again, lol. This channel is crazy. I could never dive, let alone like these pros get into.
my whole life I've always wished humans could fly like superman. This, despite being underwater, seems like the closest feeling you can get to that....
I haven't been under the water for 14 years. I'd love to go again, but first I gotta get my kids raised. When they're old enough I'm looking to take them to do some shallow 1 atmo stuff.
"it's like a ride" woody, the first time I kayaked down a small clear river through a paradise lookin natural wilderness, I instantly thought of those disney lil boat rides but thought how this was so much better than ANY artificial ride humans have made. Riding down rivers is so much more powerful for our minds, and so much more meditative. It's deeper, it's better.
It's an epic dive - boulders coming at you with split second decisions which side to go - if you get it wrong you can be beached in seconds. There's also a sunken bridge and historic buildings to dive nearby...
Love doing fast drift dives - so much fun! Got to be honest I'm not sure it would be a great idea to do it on a CCR (too much messing around on with the loop) there are dives like this on the west coast of Scotland in the Sea (much more life) it really does feel like canyon run type stuff :-)! You have to be careful when it drops off or you can get swept down quite a way.
Something to learn. You can have fun diving even in very shallow water! I still run accross the occasional person (even some diver!) who doesnt really believe that.
Did you see that DPV barrel roll down and around those pillars, then between those branch’s that was awesome. I like this it’s different, I would try it.
Can you guys do more react videos to diving tragedies or funny diving videos? I love those but I also love watching you guys just talk on the live streams. You guys are so cool. ❤️ Thank you for the videos.
They need some sort of underwater wingsuit to really boost the speed. Was half expecting them to dolphin out of the water with some of the bigger rocks.
Pretty cool - looks like a blast! Gotta watch out for those logs though as you definitely don't want to get pinned on one and it doesn't take many CFS to do it. I had a gnarly pin white water kayaking once. Fortunately I didn't flip and I was able to pull myself off, but there were a couple scary moments there for sure! This video reminds me of a friend who used to paddle with a small O2 tank lashed to his PFD. The idea is if you start getting recirculated in a keeper hole/hydraulic if would give you some extra time to get out, but it's so turbulent I seriously doubt you'd be able to actually take it off your vest and breath with it. I know big wave surfers use them, but they might be easier to use in those conditions. Keep the awesome videos coming guys! Love your channel!

I guess we need to reach out to them and make something happen!
Yes agree they can take you to some beautiful dive spots and they really are lovely people.
Here’s a quirky thing. Technically, because of the fresh water layer from the alpine runoff in to the sound, you’re doing an “altitude” dive in the ocean.
Wonderful people and some really unique diving. I can't wait to do another Milford Sound trip with Descend!
Come to Michigan buddy! We have lake superior and lake Michigan and Huron! Many beautiful dive spots especially in winter!
You guys have an energy that is unmatched. Seriously I feel like a kid, finally mesmerized by TH-cam again for hours and hours😂.
I know I always leave a some type of thank you comment; but truly, what you guys are doing is amazing! Keep it up guys!
Thank you Matthew!

Go get certified! Diving is the only way to truly experience flying.
Dude, I too got hooked to this channel and it's all because of MrBallen. And I too have watched dive talk about 2 months.
@@Dee-nonamnamrson8718 hmm i need to dive! Try FPV drones too 🤙, how I get my flying fixation!

I am not a diver but this was so cool to watch. They were certainly very experienced divers. Great videos, guys.

omg awesome video . woody looked like he was ready to pack and head for the airport before the video even ended lol
I do this snorkeling in the Coeur d' alene river.. it was ripping yesterday, and will be again today =)
I'm not a scuba diver, but that looks like so much fun, I would get my license just to do that.
Amazing video. Those guys are very cool. Crazy choice of the sound track...I love it.
I really enjoyed the sole drift dive I’ve done and now I want to do this dive! This looks like it would be a blast.
I love a video like this. It really showcases what you can do for fun. Especially, at the more experienced and professional level of diving.
Started watching you guys a few months ago and now I’m getting SDI open water certified in two weeks! Really would like to get into tech diving eventually if I end up liking it. Never thought I would be watching diving videos like this but woodys personality Is classic so is Gus. Good shit fellas
I’m a non diver. New subscriber. 70 years old. Almost drown 2x. Scared of water. I can swim. Very claustrophobic. Recently ran across you on TH-cam. So why am I here? Don’t know. But I love it here lol.
I loved watching this with y'all, so amazing! The music was a really nice touch Gus.
That looks like so much fun! I would DEFINITELY try that, oh man!
Just watch what's happening to the fish 🤣🤣
Awesome Video, reminds me of the St Clair River dive in Michigan....
That’s exactly what I was thinking! Port Huron is home turf for me. Like going under the bridge
I’d love to see the same dpv footage with a camera mounted to the front.. this looks like too much fun 🤩
I hear you, hope to get an opportunity to do exactly that soon - DPV down river chase.
That looks brilliant! One for the bucket list...
Cool to see you guys excited and enjoying a video! Especially when watching other well trained individuals.
I cannot wait to get into cold water diving.. this is definitely on the bucket list!
Really would like to see some footage of you guys going to these places and giving your own input on the dives!!!
Idk what’s more entertaining, the divers or Gus & Woody being so excited. 👍🏻💜😂
Hahahahah, I love Gus’s reference from top gun, that film is honestly my favourite
yes yes yes! Amazing!! Id love to do this! Love the music Gus haha
Wow. That looks amazing! Like extrme scuba flying!
This is freaking awesome ! Ok, now i want an open water certification, that's it, i'm sold ! By the way, great choice of music. I'm not a fan of EDM over youtube vids, but this was a perfect match.
Would be cool to see some kind of competition developed for this style of diving.
This was a freaking AWESOME Video! It was like the coolest underwater roller coaster,..This looks like a blast!! Time to Gear Up Guys, we would love to see y'all do this!!
Moving at those speeds must feel like you have an underwater jetpack strapped to your back, so cool!
Looks like such a blast!
This is like the extreme downhill skiing of scuba diving, haha!
Yes make more short videos like this
All of your are absolutely out of your minds. You go into the water, you become part of the food chain again, lol. This channel is crazy. I could never dive, let alone like these pros get into.
looks like crazy fun. i think you should do it
That looks so sick. We need to see you guys do this!
That was incredible! I'm so down! Let's all pack up and go, today.
Great video you guys are almost at 200k, wow you channel is growing nice. I remember the 50 k mark! I hope you get in the millions!
“Dude we must” …truer words never spoken
my whole life I've always wished humans could fly like superman. This, despite being underwater, seems like the closest feeling you can get to that....
Amazing video considering it's in a river and cold water diving, wow. They are making the most out of diving and breaking barriers in some regards.
Keep up the good work you guys :D I have had a really long break from diving. But you guys got me in the water again :D Thx for that
I haven't been under the water for 14 years. I'd love to go again, but first I gotta get my kids raised. When they're old enough I'm looking to take them to do some shallow 1 atmo stuff.
The shots of y’all in the thumbnails keep getting better and better 😂
I love Queenstown. Makes total sense they would be doing something like this there!
See you guys in New Zealand then, and perhaps we all could hang out with Richard Harris as well 🤩😎🥳
This looks so fun!! A dive i Would definitely want to experience
great vid! happy to see dive talk pop up as always.
Hi from New Zealand :) glad you liked it
This was awesome 🤩 and those guys have insane skills on dpv 😱
"it's like a ride" woody, the first time I kayaked down a small clear river through a paradise lookin natural wilderness, I instantly thought of those disney lil boat rides but thought how this was so much better than ANY artificial ride humans have made. Come to NZ! Where they are diving is the most beautiful place!
Surprised he can go so fast with those balls of steel
I thought I’ve seen it all but this definitely is one of the coolest dives I’ve ever seen
such a fun video and your commentary made it even better! love you guys!!
Thanks guys!
You love drift diving, you meet Lance & Simone!
Very nice people! Incredible dive! Beautiful river!
And even Austria has some nice drifting available.

It's an epic dive - boulders coming at you with split second decisions which side to go - if you get it wrong you can be beached in seconds. There's also a sunken bridge and historic buildings to dive nearby...
Like underwater wingsuit flying... haha. Pretty cool stuff.
Just found this channel and I love it! I'm a commercial diving company owner in Eastern Canada. Keep up the awesome content!
Would love to see you guys doing this too! Amazing!
Another awesome video! Thanks guys!
-"Woody, would you like to go diving beneath the ice layers on Jupiter's moon Europa"
Woody packing the bags...
-"Let's go already!"
Cant wait for the video of you actually doing it ... looks like a blast!
I swear that lil goldfish followed this dude all the way down river.... Niiice 💕
This is the best channel out right now.
that is absolutely amazing!
Looks like an awesome dive!!
I came for the drift dive, I stayed for the dubstep.
I would like to know what you would do if something went wrong during this ride. How would you be able to fix your gear if you can’t stop?
You go to the surface and swim to “shore”
Something to learn. You can have fun diving even in very shallow water! I still run accross the occasional person (even some diver!) who doesnt really believe that.
That was tight
New Zealand has some world class diving🙌 all three Islands!
Wow i am in awe. What skills with that DPV
This looks like so much fun!
Ooooo what a great way to wake up to a new Dive Talk video thank you 😄
Omg yes 1000%!!! I wanna do this so bad! This looks soooo fun!
Love these less serious videos just showing the joys of scuba diving.
This is the coolest video I’ve seen in a loooooong time!
They need some sort of underwater wingsuit to really boost the speed. Was half expecting them to dolphin out of the water with some of the bigger rocks.
We would definitely do it. Talk about a rollercoaster 🤣
awesome drift dive "obstable course" !!!! try the peleliu express, rippin' ride!
oh yes this looks epic! now this I would try as there's not a cave in sight ;) loved the video guys 👍
As a skydiver and scubadiver, I feel like I've just discovered the perfect mix of both. OMG i need to do thaaaaaaat!!!!!
Pretty cool - looks like a blast! Gotta watch out for those logs though as you definitely don't want to get pinned on one and it doesn't take many CFS to do it. There's Drift diving and then this! 😍
I watch all of your guys’ videos wit no intention of learning how to dive…until just now lmao
Awesome footage and Dive!!!
