    The ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara is the only mascara that I have deemed worthy of being my baby. It layers so nicely but the wand is really what makes it for me. The brush works so well with my straight, downwards-pointing, lashes because of the seperated 'teeth' style brush. It has shorter, closer together teeth on the opposite side for my lower lashes allow me to get mascara on them without getting it all over my under-eye. Its full-size tube is $36 though, so i plan to buy a cheaper tube after I finish this tube, sanitize the wand and use it within the cheaper formula. I wish I could say the wand has dupes at a cheaper price, but I've never found one.

    I cracked up when I saw the title of this video. Personally, I LOOOVE Benefit Roller Lash, I just broke open a brand new tube & it was like being reunited with a long lost love. I also really liked the Benefit Bad Gal Bang (although I hate the name.) As for Drugstore, I love the Loreal Voluminous in Carbon Black. I like separation with the option to build lots of length as I have smaller eyes.

    Delighted to meet your actual offspring. Although, and this is rather awkward, I in fact have a visceral memory of birthing Diorshow from *my* literal loins. However, I recall all my tubes of Diorshow being black and silver rather than blue and gold, so perhaps our Diorshow babies share a common ancestor rather than a maternity dispute. Allow me to introduce my youngest child and apple of my eye: Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara. She and I are unreservedly here for all future HLP videos with gritty and surprising titles.

  • @celucero2

    When I "met" Hannah Louise Poston, I was a make-up mess. I'm still not sure how the algorithm decided I needed to watch an HLP video during her No-Buy year, but it did. I am forever grateful. My mascara was Maybelline Great Lash. In the time that I have been watching HLP, I've tried Loreal Lash Paradise, Milani Highly Rated, and LA Girl Volumatic. The Milani Highly Rated was my favorite. I have asked for the Gucci Mascara L'Obscur for Mother's Day. Lashes for days! So much fun!

    • @celucero2
      @celucero2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, also, I use the Thrive Cosmetics tubing mascara (not due to HLP although I see she has used it recently) when I am wearing my contact lenses. It is fabulous for this purpose and gives me the low key lash look I like for work.

    I tried the Milani Highly Rated based on your recommendation and it too became one of my mascara babies! I also really love the Stila mascara - I have oily skin and transfer is a big issue for me. That one gives me all the drama without the drama ending up all over my face. 😉

    Finally! Someone with my taste in mascara! Right now, feathery, fluffy, light, and lifted lashes are the trend. However, I wear glasses and have naturally long lashes. Those types of mascaras make my lashes hit my lens. They also disappear behind the frames. As a result, I've always gravitated towards a volumizing mascara. As long as it doesn't make my eyelashes "team" together too much, I'm good. Also, I find that because I often do "beautifying makeup" -- ie cover redness, add some definition around the eyes, add a bit of color on lips and cheeks -- it looks cooler and more contemporary if something is a little undone and messy. Thick, black, clumpy mascara does the trick! If a mascara doesn't pack enough punch for me, I find myself reaching for smudgy, sultry shadows or buffing in layers and layers of eyeliner to smoke it out. Another mascara that fits this description is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Volumizing Mascara. It's often available as a sample. If you get a chance to try it, I high recommend it!

  • @AmeerahMuhammad

    I prefer high end mascaras but I only buy the mini versions. I’m a stickler for throwing mascaras away after three months because it’s quite unsanitary to keep them longer than that. And buying full size doesn’t feel very economical. And I know I can finish an entire tube in a three month period. It’s a manageable amount of product for usually half the price. I’m using the Lancome Lash Idole right now and have been really enjoying it. And the Gucci L’Obscur. Which doesn’t come in a mini! 😩 I got a deluxe sample in an order and fell in love. It’s the only mascara that I am considering buying the full size because I love it so much.

    • @anotherlemontree
      @anotherlemontree 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, mascara minis are the way! I've never purchased my favourite (Chantecaille - gulp) because I've received so many minis as gifts / gifts with purchases, and they last exactly the right amount of time before needing to be chucked. I dread the day I'll have to make a decision about whether or not to drop £63 on a full tube - strongly suspect not.

    • @pixiethistle
      @pixiethistle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed about only buying mini mascaras (well, generally, but the full size Gucci L'Obscur packaging makes my heart go pitterpat!). There are travel size minis of the Gucci L'Obscur for sale on eBay if you're interested! Most full size mascaras have gigantic tubes lately & lots of excess plastic. I usually use the minis for six months before they dry out.

    This title made me smile so much
    Also my baby mascara is the catrice glamorous waterproof (I hope it is the name). It holds the curl amazingly (and doesn't smudge) and give extra long lashes. Its doesn't give the best volume but layered over anything it becomes the best

  • @beaherzberg
    @beaherzberg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hands down all time favorite is Ilia limitless - it’s so versatile. Purchased at least 6 tubes now. Can do all around length and volume - great to define outer lashes and cat eye look which I love. Or super soft and fluttery and natural. The brush is super well designed. Denser bristles on one side to get a lot of product at the base of the lashes right from the jump, and then a longer comb side for definition, separation and length. Lasts all day on me and doesn’t flake or smudge yet super easy to rinse off at the end of the day. I really wish Yves Saint Laurent babydoll was my favorite going out mascara- just incredible defined, miles long lashes. Fake lash effect. So stubby. Why did they discontinue? But I’ve loved Diorshow and Rollerlash for years as well.

    I’m probably an outlier but I rarely repurchase a mascara! I always try something different unless it’s a free sample of one I’ve already tried. My lashes are thick, dark and long so most mascaras work for me as long as they don’t transfer and are easy to remove.

    I like Hourglass Caution mascara for the falsies look- it builds brilliantly without clumping, and you get nice sharp points and separation to the lashes instead of balls of fibre as with some mascaras. It also has a great tapered brush that you can get right into your eyelashes without smearing mascara on your nose etc (I'm looking at you Too Faced!).
    There's an Estee Lauder lengthening mascara which is one of their oldest, and that one is incredible too. It also gives great volume. Lashes for days!

    I'd really like to use drugstore mascara. I just can't find one that I love or even really like that much. I'm not a huge fan of messy lashes but I do like a very full and thick lash. I HATE when mascaras smudge, smear, or flake off and since I'm pretty oily I have a hard time finding a mascara that will stay where I want it. From your description of the Milani mascara I do think that I might like it and be able to use it how I like to wear mascara. I think that application technique with mascara isn't talked about enough, but it really makes a difference in how a mascara performs.

I love thick, thick, thick lashes that I can build and build, without too much effort and correcting. I don't need length especially. I don't mind some lashes sticking together, but not to the point where I have only three left. I don't mind texture, but I do mind big lumps. I liked Lash Paradise quite a lot, but didn't love it. The results were good, but with a lot of effort, and the tube doesn't last long because it gets dry quickly. That might be why its so popular on youtube, it's quite good when its new. Eventhough I don't really know how a mascara could get any better for me than the Iconic London one, i'm curious to try one of your babies now! Your favorites have worked for me so far, the Kevyn Aucoin Neo Bronzer is now a staple for me. But since I also like to go by your example of buying conciously, I'll sleep on it:)

    Mascara is one of the products that I've discovered I can't go by reviews much. I have a lot of lashes that are decently long. However they grow weirdly lol it's like they go in every direction up, down, out, left and right. Plus I have like 2 "rows" of lashes. Like I have lashes not only growing from my normal lash line but also kind of above that on my eyelid. Anyway all that to say I have very specific mascara needs that most mascara that everyone loves just clump mine together.

    My mascara baby is probably the covergirl clean lash blast mascara. It’s the only mascara I think I’ve ever actually enjoyed wearing. I used to like the covergirl exhibitionist mascara but the last tube of it I had was very funky and I could really feel it on my lips. Currently using a regular exhibitionist and it smudges so much. Can’t wait to repurchase the clean lash blast

    My mascara babies are the superhero from It cosmetics (it gives the textured-grungy lashes of dreams honestly) as well as the Effet Faux Cils (false lash effect in English I guess? I'm French, I'm not sure) from YSL, in burgundy. I like to splurge on this one once a year. It is just too expensive for a regular repurchase but I have a crush for red-plum mascaras and they are hard to find (in a good formula for my taste at least)

    You make me want to try that gucci one but I know it would just be bad news bears for me and I'd be mad about how much money I'd spend on it.
    I wish I could be a normal person and love non waterproof mascaras. I tried the Milani highly rated and hated it--it was super wet in my opinion?? Then again, anything non-waterproof is probably too wet for me. My biological child is Maybelline Total Temptation mascara, of course in the waterproof formula, because it actually holds the curl I put into my lashes (my lashes do not like to stay curled and non waterproof is a surefire way to have them just drop any lift and curl I tried to set into them)
    I used to enjoy the waterproof diorshow, and then I tried it again and hated it, so.. I'm not sure what happened. Oh, I've just remembered, when Milk Kush in the original formula is like... on its deathbed, I adopt it as My Child. Apparently I like bone dry deathbed formulas.

    My lash faves have changed since masks have been a thing. Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof is my only current mascara baby, although I have to tolerate the impossible removal and clumsy-person unfriendly brush. But I find that everything else smudges and causes curl droopage when I wear a mask- must be the moisture rising from my breath.

  • @uva98

    For me the difference is using a primer, the L'Oreal Paris Cosmetics Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Primer/Base is the one it works for me (and smells fruity, lol) the only mascara it doesn’t work good with is the Maybelline Ski High, but it really makes a difference for the look you are talking about. And I wouldn’t buy a high end primer.
    Monsieur Big and Sky High is the ones I use, and I think I’ll continue to. The primer is something I have repurchased many, many times!

      I think Lancome is owned by L'Oreal, so a lot of their products are basically the same formula as Lancome, and come out just after Lancome launches. I've tried the Lancome primer and Lash Paradise, and there's no difference except in price.

    I have such short lashes and such extremely hooded and deep-set eyes that I’ve always believed regular mascara was wasted on me. I did have a revelation in (I think) 2009 when I visited the US and found Two Faced’s Better Than False Lashes Extreme, which was a mascara and separate tube of fibres.
    However, since discovering beauty TH-cam in the last couple of years, I am experimenting. Results pending.

    I have two mascara babies, one high-end and one drugstore (which is CRAZY bc I never thought id be into a high-end mascara considering the price tag). First, the Lancome Monsieur Big mascara gives me the craziest, most voluminous, and chunky kind of messy sexy lashes that I think Hannah was describing. Next is the Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara. After years and years, I keep coming back to it - it just gives me the most natural-looking, super long lashes. Doesn't give any volume but I think it's perfect for my everyday makeup, or even as a base for a more spidery mascara on top.

    My current mascara baby is theBalm Madlash because it's the only mascara that's not waterproof, removes easily with my nightly double cleanse, and still doesn't smudge and flake all over my face, all the while giving me nice lashes. Everything else I've tried has either successfully lasted a day on my lashes, but failed to exit once the day is done, or decided midway through our time together to shower me with black speckled gifts across my already dark under-eye area. Speck-tacular. 💩
