I’ve definitely fell into the “rabbit hole”this month after binging on so many make up videos and the Sephora sale! Im scared to even add up all the prices... Asides from the guilt and money spent I’m now exploring new ways of applying makeup & it’s fun. I feel beautiful, and at 31yrs old your videos have inspired me to view makeup as something other than “cakey” & challenging! Thankfully everything I bought applies like a diffused velvety dream. 🥰 now to climb out of the hole 🕳 and practice a “no buy” period. Ly

Every once in a while, usually when I'm in an anxiety loop before I fall asleep, I think about how much it would cost to replace my makeup if it were stolen or irreparably damaged, and I just go, "Oh god..."
But more than that, I think, the investment of *time* into my collection is WAY more significant than I realize on the day to day. Obviously, I repan everything and that is a huge chunk of time, but the time I spend researching, comparing, looking at swatches, talking with friends, watching TH-cam... is a LOT.
And it's enjoyable time, but I do think that time is a part of the value of my makeup, in addition to the monetary cost. And when I'm thinking about what would happen if I lost all my makeup tomorrow, the *time* lost is the thing that keeps me up for another hour or so, haha.
Money comes and goes, but time is a non-renewable resource. Which I think is interesting. For me, makeup "gives back" time in the sense of the joy I take in crafting looks and discussing things, etc. but for those who don't get that joy back for whatever reason, I think that cost becomes a lot more salient.

I love the eye look and think a bright matte pastel looks quite sophisticated when paired with dewy or semi-dewy skin. It’s when you add a darker outer corner and more noticeable base products that I think it starts to migrate out of effortless, cool girl territory

I think it's the weirdest thing that companies keep releasing low coverage glowy skin tints that cling to dry patches. I feel like so many people who would buy such a product deal with dryness. Even those with oily skin can get dehydrated flaky bits.
I know that's the case for me as a dry skinned person. I'm all about low effort, low coverage, hydrating tints. But clinging to dryness defeats the purpose of a product that's supposed to look natural and healthy.

My full face today (foundation, concealer, powder, 2 bronzers, brow pencil, brow gel, cream shadow, mascara) cost me £61/$84 USD. Every single product I used is either drugstore, k-beauty or from Kiko Milano who can veer into midrange but often have amazing sales on their products. For someone who tends to go for cheaper products, I still spend a ton on makeup - it's not easy to find sturdy, staple products at cheap prices, so the trial and error can be costly. But I like the hunt!

    • @minakion
      @minakion 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

What products would you rate high in Kiko? I love the brand but I think the products are hit or miss. (I like the shadow sticks, the lipsticks ❤️ and the full coverage concealer)

    • @mollya8230

@@minakion I love their full coverage 2 in 1 foundation and concealer, their instamoisture foundation (a great dupe for MUFE reboot), their legendary lashes mascara, powder power and velvet passion lipsticks (these are like mac powder kiss and charlotte tilbury matte revolution). Their blush and bronzer duos and contour duos have great natural bronzing shades, and their unlimited blushes have really great colours and textures and sleek packaging. Their limited edition collections often have amazing cream eyeshadows that are comparable to tom ford, charlotte tilbury etc imo. Their recent ‘Lost in Amalfi’ collection has some gorgeous ones, the shade ‘bronze glares’ in particular is a beautiful copper. Their LE collections also have some beautiful baked setting powders which are so undetectable on the skin. The only things I have had a bad experience with are their powder eyeshadows and their foundation shade ranges. Hope this helps, I absolutely love this brand!

When I saw the thumbnail I wasn't sure if you would like the end result, because you don't wear a lot of blue eyeshadow, but I really like it on you.
Your last 2 videos have funny timing for me. I commented on your last video about sales and whether I am one to collect them all. I have recently been feeling Cor De Rosa vibes and I've toyed around with buying Enchanted for a while. Sigma is celebrating 12 years and offered a %30 discount. I feel a bit differently about sales than you do just from shopping in department stores. I feel like companies know you wont pay retail, which is why they have sales. I also have found that I REALLY enjoy Sigmas mattes. The shimmers can be a bit hit or miss, but the misses with a glitter glue do perform beautifully. I'm not sure I'll love the glittery shimmers of Enchanted, but it is a look I've become more interested in. And when I broke down what Untamer had to offer, I round that I could think of various combinations I'd enjoy using. And I love the brushes included. So I bought all 3.
Seeing this video pop up in combination with the last video I watched from you makes me really think about the fact that I spent $102 in one swoop to buy them all. I don't think it will be a bad choice for me. But I need to be mindful about making that sort of choice in the future because l have "invested" similar amounts in Roen and Dose of Colors eyeshadows.
Eyeshadow is really my joy in makeup, so it makes sense that of everything in my vanity, that is what I've been most willing to spend my money on. I do need to think about joy per dollar and what in my collection actually does bring me joy.
I feel like I've hit a really good sweet spot going towards a more minimalistic wardrobe. With as much as I like eyeshadow I don't expect my eyeshadow collection to be minimal, but I do want to really make sure that I'm mindful about what I have like I am beginning to be with my wardrobe. I'm learning that having more options isn't always better when building or refining a wardrobe. It is good to find our style, however, I recently began watching Emily Wheaton and she talks about creating module capsules in your wardrobe so that you are able to express yourself through, and enjoy various styles. My wardrobe style is very simple. I don't feel the need to express myself in various ways through my wardrobe. I do have various styles of eye looks and color stories that speak to me and eyeshadow is a medium I use to express myself and my style. I also watch A Small Wardrobe and Patricia pretty strictly has chosen a color story to work with in her wardrobe. I do think there is value in understanding and choosing what works for you, but I don't want a monochromatic wardrobe or selection of makeup.
This got a bit off topic and got rambly but it's just been very much on my mind lately. I'd love to see someone approach styling and curating makeup in the same way these women curate wardrobes and capsules. An every day makeup drawer or shop my stash could be geared in that direction, but its not really how I see it done.
I just need to sit down one day and really think about what I want out of my eye makeup and whether I have the tools to do all the things I want to do. Once I establish what I really want, I can consider whether I have everything in my vanity to achieve my desired. Once I know what I want and that I have the necessary tools to do what I want I think it will be much easier to tame the part of my mind that wants to buy all the pretty things and have all the best performing things.

I don't know how I feel about these "cost of a face of makeup" videos, because, in a way, they snap things into perspective, but a single application of foundation doesn't cost $50, if the full bottle is a $50

    • @lookingatdaisies9901
      @lookingatdaisies9901 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think If you bought them and wore the makeup just once, you'll have had to spend the whole $50 to get that foundation in your inventory in the first once. So it works to say $250 had to be spent to be able to achieve such a look even once. But I get what you mean, the translation of the title can go two ways easily

The comment about "The baby I live with" reminds me of when my nephew was young and everytime I wore this one sorta velvety matte MAGENTA shirt he would just stare wide eyed all day long. Tracking me around the room and everything. It was a fun time. It also helped me get some good photos of his eyes, which were a very clean dark blue at the time. Quite striking tbh.
Now he's 4 and has taken to telling me to "go to your room" whenever I'm stealing grandpa's attention from him....

Hey Hannah, I don't get Barbie vibes at all, just awesome vintage 60's/70's goodness, and you totally pull it off! Wondering if you would ever consider trying more Body Merry products? I recently found the brand through you, and I would love to try their products, as the formulas look to be really great and contain super high concentrations of actives for a surprisingly affordable price. The thing is, I can't find any updated reviews online aside from yours, which seems so weird to me given the high percentage actives at an inexpensive price point, not to mention the fact that the bottles contain so much product. Shipping the products here to Australia is going to be disgustingly expensive, so I'm wondering if you’d given any others a try? - I'd love to know if they're worth it, and if it turns out that the products work well, then I think it would really be worth giving some love to a female owned indie brand making high quality, inexpensive and accessible products. Thanks! xxx

I got the Fenty skin tint because I was hoping it would be something I could wear in the summer that would be able to handle sitting on top of lots of nourishing skin care. Sometimes when I use skin tints after layering up my serums and moisturizer/sunscreen they can just disappear, separate or pill off the skin. So far, (I’ve only been using it for a few days) the Fenty one it’s doing exactly what I had hoped it would. It sits beautifully on top of my other products and I do see the blur effect. But, I can see in areas where I have flaky skin, it doesn’t look as great. I can see it being amazing for someone with an oilier skin type.

Thanks for this video! Sephora has a feature where people can upload selfies and tag the products they've used to get that *lewk* and I must admit, I do love to go through those photos sometimes and add up the cost of the products everyone has tagged. It's frighteningly common for people to be wearing $500-$1000 worth of pigment and goo. Luckily for me I don't wear a lot of complexion products, just concealer really, but it definitely seems like complexion makeup is sephora's big ticket item. No wonder they are always sending me coupons to try and get me hooked on a foundation!
I love that eye look, I had no idea it was a trend because I live in a figurative and partially literal cave, but it looks so fresh and cute. I got the spectral palette from linda hallberg ages ago and there's a really striking bright teal in there that I had no idea how I would ever use until I watched this video. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love this eye look! 😍 I've been dreaming of the perfect pastel blue green eyeshadow single, but haven't been able to find it! I wish this one was available individually.

Check out Shroud Cosmetics! Their Creepy Cute palette has a gorgeous one and I believe they sell those shades as singles as well! At least they used to, I bought a single of the gray.

This is such a cool video idea! I want to recreate I’d be so curious to know. Especially because I usually dip into multiple palettes for one look

That look is awesome and I think it could work with every matte pastel shade or even with matte bright shades!

I think you look great! I like that aqua on you.
Also, it sounds like there’s a giant bee in my room every time you fast forward lol.

That blush is so beautiful, since your last video I pulled out my Chick Lit compact and have been using just the shimmer side (which is the same shade) every day since.

I love this look! I actually just bought a little neon/pastel eyeshadow palette today as I’ve been enjoying using a bright purple near my lash line and wanting to try other colours. Your last video with this look may have also been part of the inspiration!

I think you look cool, but I might be biased since the soft pastel cloud around my eyes plus a dewy fresh face is a staple look for me.

Can you please do some fashion content in the near future? I'm feeling a little out of it and quite insecure about not owning all new clothes. Never happens to me but somehow this year has me with the fashion insecurity

After a long Minnesota winter, the sound of the lawnmower provided me with the most calming feeling ever. 😂😂😂😂 Spring/summer sense memory I guess!
