Ended up L 8.5, R 9, W 8, S 9 (2020) ! Scores on my previous try (2017 - before watching this channel was L 8, R 8.5, W 6.5, S 8). Disclaimer that I did the paper based on my first try and the computer based on my second try and I know for a fact that it had an impact on my writing score - BUT it probably wouldn't have been an 8 if not for this channel. Hi Jay. It's very common that you have to give examples to support your idea in ielts writing, but what if the examples that I use don't make sense to the examiner? Will it affect my score? I did some writing practice yesterday, and the question is "A rise in the standard of living in a country seems to only benefit cities rather than rural areas. What problems might this difference cause?" So one of the problems I wrote is more children in non-urban areas will be raised by their grandparents or other relatives because their parents have to make money in big cities. They may see their parents only once or twice a year until their parents retire. I then showed my essay to a friend who is a native speaker of English to see if my article could be understood. However, he replied with something I didn't expect. He told me though he could fully understand what I wrote, the problem I gave as an example doesn't make sense to him, because in his country, if a couple doesn't take care of their baby after they give birth to it, the government will take the baby away. So all the negative effects that this problem has on children, that I listed in the essay are BS to him. But this phenomenon is really prevalent in the country where I was born and grew up, and it's not against the law. So what if the example I use for ielts writing makes no sense to the examiner? This is very likely to happen, given the huge differences in cultural background and living environments between me and the examiner.

Honestly, I don't know where you folks are taking your Ielts exams and receive good scores ,cause I took mine after 10 years of living in Australia. As someone with a sold command of English, I got 8s in L, R and S whereas I only got 6.5 in Writing. I struggle to understand how is that even possible, when I had 7 in Writing 4 years ago for Uni admission and I have been engaged in academic writing for the purpose of my course ever since. They also charge over $200 for a review and $250 for one skill retake. There's something really fishy about IDP IELTS and if you are a candidate planning to take it in Sydney, avoid them at any cost! You will always get 0.5 marks less then you need in at least one component and it happens to many candidates on a regular basis.
3:42 but you said in your other video that "Discuss both views (+give your opinion)" should've two Single Idea paragraphs. Only problems/solutions and advantages/disadvantages should've double idea paragraphs. I'm confused :S

If you have "do you agree/disagree" or "to what extent do you agree" , should you take a strong position on just one side example I AGREE , or can you make a point for why you agree to an extent and you disagree due to other reasons?

Hi Jay. It's very common that you have to give examples to support your idea in ielts writing, but what if the examples that I use don't make sense to the examiner? Will it affect my score?
I did some writing practice yesterday, and the question is "A rise in the standard of living in a country seems to only benefit cities rather than rural areas. What problems might this difference cause?" So one of the problems I wrote is more children in non-urban areas will be raised by their grandparents or other relatives because their parents have to make money in big cities. They may see their parents only once or twice a year until their parents retire. I then showed my essay to a friend who is a native speaker of English to see if my article could be understood. However, he replied with something I didn't expect. He told me though he could fully understand what I wrote, the problem I gave as an example doesn't make sense to him, because in his country, if a couple doesn't take care of their baby after they give birth to it, the government will take the baby away. So all the negative effects that this problem has on children, that I listed in the essay are BS to him. But this phenomenon is really prevalent in the country where I was born and grew up, and it's not against the law.
So what if the example I use for ielts writing makes no sense to the examiner? This is very likely to happen, given the huge differences in cultural background and living environments between me and the examiner.

Honestly, I don't know where you folks are taking your Ielts exams and receive good scores ,cause I took mine after 10 years of living in Australia. As someone with a sold command of English, I got 8s in L, R and S whereas I only got 6.5 in Writing. I struggle to understand how is that even possible, when I had 7 in Writing 4 years ago for Uni admission and I have been engaged in academic writing for the purpose of my course ever since. They also charge over $200 for a review and $250 for one skill retake. There's something really fishy about IDP IELTS and if you are a candidate planning to take it in Sydney, avoid them at any cost! You will always get 0.5 marks less then you need in at least one component and it happens to many candidates on a regular basis.
3:42 but you said in your other video that "Discuss both views (+give your opinion)" should've two Single Idea paragraphs. Only problems/solutions and advantages/disadvantages should've double idea paragraphs. I'm confused :S
