I’ve literally known this song since it came out when I was a kid, but for some reason now, at almost 30 years of age I am suddenly unable to stop listening to it over and over. I only have just realized the genius that is Matthew good. True Canadian royalty if there was any.

You definitely live in Canada then. lol. I WISH that people outside of Canada and the states and cities bordering Canada (especially Buffalo,NY) KNEW of this band and many others, that hail from Canada. I live in FL now, but I'm originally from NY. I'm singing MGB and now MG, all the time, and no one has a clue who they are. It's frustrating! In 2013 I flew up to NY, met up with a friend, and then drove into Toronto, just to see Matt play at Massey Hall. It was AMAZING!

+Charlene C Timuss Matthew never went anywhere. His music and sound has evolved over time so that he's NOT a parody of himself, he's NOT churning out the same music all the time. He actually almost DID go somewhere: death. In late 2006 he overdosed on Ativan because of SEVERE Anxiety, had himself committed to the Mental Health ward and was properly diagnosed Bipolar Type 1 (Dysphoric Mania). The way he used to look was a result of his mania and anxiety.
Seeing him on stage this past November in Edmonton, he displayed some energy that I didn't expect. He came off stage twice, went down the isle singing, and for "Girls in Black" he was half sitting half standing on the railing of the seating by the side wall.........and talking with him just after the sound check, I got to say how much ALL of his music means to me.

I wish that for his next album that he would settle his differences with his old band (The Matthew Good Band) and get together to write, record and produce another album. They were and probably still are amazing musicians, and they meshed really well, I never felt that he overshadowed them. His solo work and the musicians he currently uses are also incredibly skilled and talented but there is just something about a band. What blows me away is how young he was when he began, and how truly brilliant he was. I've heard unreleased songs from his first audition tapes and they blow me away. I'm not jealous, but I am definitely envious. I also love to write, but his lyrics, his voice and the true brilliance that shines through him inspire me, and in so many cases lead me to tears. I also hear voices and see and hear all kinds of insanity, as does he, but he was able to channel it all and create songs and music that inspire so many people. I was really fortunate enough to see him at a tiny venue in Los Angeles, California where he put on a solo acoustic show (it was at the time when he had released the album Hospital Music), and he was awesome to watch. I've mentioned this before...after the show he stepped outside the club to have a cigarette, and I had the chance to talk to him. My brother, best friend are also from Canada (Montreal, Quebec were he's visited and performed) which gave us something in common to talk about - he was right on when he said that Montreal is an incredible food city. I wanted more than anything to tell him that I suffer from the same condition that he does, but I knew it would piss off my brother and friends so I never had the chance...It's amazing some of the stuff he writes about and perceives, I see the same kind of stuff...unfortunately I have a lousy voice, can't write music and have no talent; I do however know how he moves, holds his guitar which allows me to put on a concert for myself and play his music as loud as humanly possible until someone complains. Most importantly, even though I've heard him talk to the audience and sound gruff around the edges, and in the video above he looks like a bit of a prick...lol...he is honestly a really down to earth, quiet and really, really nice guy. My sensitivity to people and energies and the weird unseen stuff all around allows me the good fortune to sense a persons energy, true heart and often their truest soul...and Matthew Good's is so opposite what he projects; he is just like his best songs a truly beautiful, often tortured, loving soul (I'm not trying to kiss his brilliant ass...)..if you read this one day Matthew Fredrick Robert Good, when off stage, you are a really nice guy, not full of himself, but a truly genuine, obviously intelligent nice guy, and shy I think like myself and so many Canadians growing up in frozen winters that saved my life and sanity, by having taught me to internalize my thoughts and to have a safe quiet place in my mind to escape when my bi-polar, manic-depressive, schizo-affective brain goes on overload.

    • @GarySamuelBesner2024
      @GarySamuelBesner2024 ปีที่แล้ว

I almost forgot...most importantly...the reason I am certain he sweeter than he wants everyone to know...I also, like him have had two little dogs who would sleep with me, and I could see in one of his personal you-tube videos his love for them...kind of like the way in biblical pictures you would see an image of a kind and loving Jesus carrying around a lamb in his arms...anyone who owns a little dog will understand...they are like loving babies their whole lives...i know i'm rambling...lol

    I'm tired of blood
And over priced bubble gum, mom
    Nobody wake up
There's nothing we could have done wrong
    I'm wearing the same grin,
I take it all on the chin
I still believe everything that I read
    And sometimes it's hard,
    Sometimes it's harder
    Sometimes it's on sale,
    Sometimes it never fails
I have a psychic and she says I'm lonely
She says my destiny's turning out all wrong
So now I just sit here
And thing of meaningful things to say
    Symbolistic white walls
    Surround you and me
    Every single day
I am cheap and see through
    I'm tired of blood
    And over priced bubble gum
Nobody move and nobody gets hurt
    I'm wearing the same skin,
I take it all on the chin
I still believe everything that I hear
    And sometimes it's easy,
    Sometimes it's easier
    And sometimes it's all free,
    Sometimes it's all free
I have a psychic and she says I'm lonely
She says inside of me is turning out all wrong
So now I just sit here
And think of meaningless things to say
    Symbolistic white walls
    Surround you and me
    Every single day
I am cheap and see through
    It's all right now
Take the world and make it yours again
    It's all right now
Take the world and make it yours again
    It's all right now
Take the world and make it yours again
    It's all right now
Take the world and make it yours again
    Yours again
    Yours again
    Yours again

Such a classic. While other bands just repeat the same things over and over, this song makes use of subtle changes in the recapitulation of the lyrics to make them actually GO somewhere. What a concept!

Don't Despair, Don't Despise, NO DESOLATION. GET UP, LIVE, FIGHT, LOVE, LAUGH, HOPE, PROGRESS, OVERCOME FEAR, SHOW WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF, NEVER GIVE UP, YOU ONLY GET 1 LIFE. FIGHT FOR WHAT'S RIGHT, FIGHT FOR YOURSELF, FIGHT THE SYSTEM, FIGHT FOR OTHERS AND THE TRUTH. LOVE YOURSELF OR NOONE WILL LOVE OR SUPPORT YOU.
Don't be Distracted, Don't be Deceived, Don't be Exploited, Don't be Divided.

Song tells us to live each day to the Fullest. Do something different every day, do something good everyday, do something new & something you'll be proud of. Don't just repeat the same day everyday & the same failures, don't let anything or anyone get you down, Learn Everyday, learn from your past & any mistakes that you make, improve your future, Enjoy Life, this is the ONLY chance you'll get, don't let life pass you by, do something that Improves You & This World AND
    Humanity. MOVE. LIVE LIFE

He's a brilliant man, and his songs.. to those who listen to the lyrics and digest them, are not chewy bubble gum songs that repeat, and repeat. Matthew Good writes songs with a purpose behind them, and I think the audience he reaches out with his music to has to have an acquired taste, and if not that, then an understanding of the world around them. I'll listen to his music over the repetitive junk pouring out into the music industry these days.

i remember when he won that CFox seeds radio contest with a demo song in 93 or 94 or somewhere around there. That contest win got him recording time which the band he formed used to make a 4 song demo that landed them their recording deal. Same annual contest Nickelback won like 8 years later and did the same thing.
