Just this week an LDS member in good standing forwarded a text message to John Delin, that said - “We are low on craft & art supplies due to lack of finances we are asking for donations. The church has billions and billions stashed away while a ward can’t afford construction paper and crayons.
Very sad, during Covid one of the nicest guys in my ward suffered a heart attack and died while he was shoveling the ward house sidewalks on an early snowy "Monday" morning. The snow melted later that day! Our ward (in Millcreek/ Holladay) is always asking for arts and crafts donations and...volunteers to clean the wardhouse restrooms and, "keep the prestigious grounds safe and clean!"
It's not secret, it's confidential = It's not secret, it's sacred. In reality, what they mean is that what they're doing is so weird, embarrassing and shady that they want to limit who knows about it. With regard to the money, they don't want the members to know what they're doing with it because the members may develop tithing hesitancy. With regard to the temple rituals, they don't want non-initiates to know about the specifics because the members may decide that the temple ordinances are just a bunch of pseudo-masonic nonsense that does not match the hushed tones of reverence and mystery that are used to promote it..
I watched the 60 minutes segment about the mormon church's finances. The guy from the church is very obvious in his facial expressions and gestures (and even his language) that he is up to something. Mr. Nielsen at the other hand was calm and collected, and I knew, while I was watching the segment, that man is honest. Maybe the church guy got his 2nd anointing or something. They always to get away with the lies. They (the church's upper echelons and the Q15) would not hold up to a temple recommend interview.
The church’s written response has the same smug self righteous tone as that guy. I thought for a second it was my sanctimonious hypocrite ex hubs speaking. 😕
I wanted ask David why he stayed so long a Ensign Peak. I don't think he was so naive as to think they were running a charity. I think he lost his faith earlier. Probably around the time the CES letters came out. I think he is probably lying and he and his brother Lars are after the 30% reward they will get on all the taxes the Church would have to pay back. He won't get anything except not hired by any one. Leaves wall street and stays at Ensign Peak ten full years before he stepped up to the plate. I don't think all of his pursuit is altruistic.
Oaks comes to mind We do NOT apologize. Case closed. How do any of them qualify for temple recommends answering the question : are you honest in all your dealings with your fellow men?? Smh
They’ll be so surprised when they die and realize they’re just like everyone else and don’t get any special treatment. But but don’t you know who I AM? RMN, for one, is getting worried. For good reason.
We have to remember that this men have a “Second anointment” which gives them the right to do whatever the hell they want with your DINERO and won’t be accountable
Great job guys! Thanks for more insight. As a Canadian citizen I felt I should have at least had my first year, Pathway BYU, free, as I have paid for it already how many times over!
Free things are only for the top leaders and their celestial families. Everyone else must donate and pay and be grateful for the opportunity to donate and pay. Insane!
That hoard is doing exactly the most effective thing a hoard can do: it keeps opponents or the legal system from attacking with too much enthusiasm. A 5 million dollar fine is swatted away like a mosquito. No one is going to want to wrangle with the LDS Corporation, and that means the church sitting very pretty. Atop its hoard.
I am so glad you brought up Mitt Romney. When he was running for President I emailed several news organizations trying to get them to dig more into his beliefs...and how his beliefs are always going to come first. I lived in Utah and was witness to how the Church manhandled the politicians in the state. I was terrified he was going to be elected because I knew what that was going to mean. The Church is manhandling the IRS it seems...
You are an actual anti-mormon. This sort of hate should not be platformed. It will soon be consigned to the asheap of history alongside anti-semitism, Islamophobia, anti-Catholicism, and all the other types of unacceptable religious bigotry.
It's a good point to bring up. I mean if a church catches on fire the fire department responds and they get the benefit of the taxpayers. What does the Church contribute to the community?
I shared Mormon Stories interview regarding this very issue... I had an acquaintance get very upset at me for posting this on FB! She then had the nerve to ask me; "Are you paying a full tithe and offerings?" "I indicated that this was a boundary issue, and was also confidential!" I then informed her that her judging me and assuming that I wasn't, didn't make me at fault for what the LDS Leaders were doing! I then indicated to her, "that her motive was to, "gaslight me, instead!" Ridiculous! 😮
She wasn't judging you. She was asking a legitimate question. Thee must be something not right with you if you cannot answer a valid question. You are easily offended, & you seem pretty hypocritical from your word choice & reaction, to me. I wouldn't be surprised if you're murmuring against the Brethren. The Lord is not pleased with that kind of behavior, according to His own words in D&C. I'd tread very carefully if I were you. You don't seem to have learned much from this experience. All the other Protestant mainline churches have done the same thing financially as the true Restored Church, & the Catholic church, even worse so, but nobody cries foul on them. Seems like a huge case of prejudice to single out the true Restored Church, to me, & excuse all the others which are much worse. This whole financial issue is the Church leadership's private business. It a nobody else's business, especially the hypocritical, falsely-accusing Protestant Evangelicals (who are the worst of all), & Catholics. Its always the individuals (who needed the most help & correction or chastisement) shouting, "You're judging me!", such as you, who are actually in private (which God sees & is not pleased by your hypocritical behavior), & who are actually the unrighteously judgmental ones. Your own word choices betray or expose your true self-centeredness & lack of good character underneath your obvious shallow or not deep rioted facade of self-righteousness. I completely trust & obey the words (as Scripture to me, as the Doctrine says) of the living General Authorities, today, & Latter-day (as well as ancient, Biblical) Prophets & Apostles (such as President Nelson & the Quorum of the 12, & the Area 70's, as well as in the Epistle writings of St. Paul), on tithing, offerings, & donations, which were commanded by the Lord, Himself, who is the and who.set up His Church, 2000 years ago, & continues to guide it, today. They're not perfect men, of courses, & they make mistakes sometimes, but they are correct on Doctrine & counsel, when speaking prophetically, by inspiration or revelation of the Holy Ghost or Spirit directly from Heavenly Father. A lor of disgruntled members of the Church seem very rebellious & of a very accusatory & overly suspicious spirit (which is of the devil, not the Lord). You do not seem teachable, or truly humble in spirit, according to your immature words blaming others who are warning you as they are being more obedient than they can't help but see that you are. You have merely just repeated the all-too-predictable, typical, progressive, party-line, "knee-jerk" overreaction of those always unfairly & wrongly forcing the Church organization & practices to conform to you & your irrational, unreasonable, illogical, worldly opinion, rather than true, dedicated, meticulous disciples of Jesus Christ, loyal to His, true, Restored Church, who willingly "yield to the enticings of the Holy Spirit", as the Lord asks us yo do, & submit, or conform to the Church organization & practices, because its God's Will & Plan, not the other way around.
Sorry. Typo. "Rooted", not "Rioted". An understandable, close proximity (on my tiny, palm-sized keyboard) mistake. My, big, middle-aged, man hands are forced to use ridiculously tiny, Japanese keys on my Android phone! Annoying! Why don't we restore the good ol' Christian American Republic, land of true Liberty, which comes from Jesus Christ (not license for excess & immorality),as it was founded as by wise, accomplished men, raised to by the Lord for His purpose, & go back make phones here in America instead of constantly importing others' cheaply-made, crappy, expensive,, disposal ones?!
You seem extremely offended, & maybe even a little bit jealous, deep down, because another valiant Church-member is living the higher standard Christ sets in His, true, Restored Church, above & beyond all the other churches of the world. The true, Restored Church had the higher law, even more binding than the lesser: but the Lord states clearly in His words of warning in the D&C: "those who cannot abide the higher law shall not inherit the higher, celestial kingdom of glory". He will give exactly us what & which degree of rewards &/ or punishments or consequences (cursings) that we obviously or clearly deserve by west we chose/ choose & desire for ourselves & how & where we prove to God we truly want to spend eternity. .
Anybody can give in to the all-too-common & even, now-applauded, popular-culture temptation to judge or blame, labels others, out of one's one arrogance or self-righteousness & hypocrisy. But it's a true, higher, worthier, more mature challenge & wiser choice & act of faith & humble, soft-hearted obedience to counteract or "put off the carnal or natural man or woman & put on the spiritual man or woman, & the full armor of God", by accepting & receiving & abiding by the concerned, caring, constructive-criticism another more worthy & truly valiant member suggests or asks of you. If you constantly to allow yourself to be routinely offended about every little thing, & are often unrighteously indignant, then all you'll know or experience in life will be endless misery & the captivity or slavery to the devil. . There are two kinds of everything: a good, Godly anger, & a worldly, carnal/ selfish kind, motivated by greed, lust for power or control, or "PRIDE", which is the most popular sin or abomination today, which destroys the body & soul of many lovers or perverse, crazed, filthy purveyors of it, today/ "the LOVE of money" (not the neutral tool or means to an end of money, itself) = "the root of all evil", (as the devil desires us to be), judge (unrighteously).
Landon & Rebecca, please write an editorial to the SLTrib + maybe even WaPo etc regarding how absurd the IRS rules are for claiming church status & why all nonprofits including churches should be required to follow same rules per comments ~57:00. Totally agree this is not a constitutional issue at all. Even if it were, rights are always limited.
That apologetic statement is the kind of thing you get from someone who has decided that logic, facts, common sense and reality just don't matter. "We consider the Church to be the literal Kingdom of God on the earth". Uhmmm....okay. And what evidence indicates that it indeed is that? Oh, you "consider" it to be that. "It is led by prophets and apostles". Uhmmm...okay. And what's the evidence for that? Let me guess. The evidence for them being "prophets and apostles" is that they say they are "prophets and apostles". "The Church has a divine mandate to prepare the world for the second coming". Uhmmm...okay. And the evidence for that "divine mandate"? Oh, yeah, the guys who say that they are "prophets and apostles" also say that this is their divine mandate. But, most importantly, how in the h-e-l-l does a wall street investment portfolio of stocks and bonds and derivatives "prepare the world for the second coming"? Let me guess. The guys who say they are "prophets and apostles" also say "just trust us on this." Or by 'second coming" do you just mean the next round of returns on investments?
Funny how the church is determined to be flush with cash, real estate, and investments while at the same time believing an apocalyptic event is on the horizon. What are the LDS going to do with the billions then?
It is normal for members to vent but a bad time to be visible about complaints. I'm still waiting for the day when someone or a number of people whistle blow about details within the highest quorums of the Church. It is likely the biggest reasons the Church can't afford to be transparent. I tend to doubt all of our leaders are true believers. Probably all of them have been given the 2nd anointing which is in some ways is no more that a license for one to do as they please. Almost sounds like it was contrived by someone who wanted to do just that. Why would one need such a loop hole into the highest kingdom if that were not so. Bednar was serious when he told members the Church doesn't need their tithes and that members need the blessings from paying them. Probably over half the GA's would be happy to withdraw membership from members who don't pay tithes or criticize the Church and its leaders and other wise complain. They know they have enough money to get rid of millions of marginal members. The know they can replace you by importing members from 3rd world countries who will do more for less. They would be happy to outsource your blessing to those they consider more faithful. They will do this far before they make the Church more transparent.
16:15 "we can do whatever we want". That reminds me of the weird fact that the LDS Church invested in Phillip Morris inspite of forbidding their members to smoke.
It's like playing chess with the devil, but God wins 24/7, how long will this go on fokes. GodBlessAmen. Respect the Veterans Amen, they should get the money not the church. I Stan up with GodAmen.
As I was listening to your comments, I heard you say that the new articles of incorporation are solely in the power of the Prophet. You mentioned that in case the church is dissolved… It sounds like they are already preparing for the church to dissolve and for those at the top to retain the corporation and all of the money. I never saw or thought of that before. Did you?
I have hear the same thing. The money follows the President of the Church I would like to hear from a lawyer how that would actually work. Does it mean that if the Church commits a crime that he can be put in handcuffs too.
I have heard it called tantamount to a traffic violation by people in the business considering there was no mention of crime what else can one assume it to be but an unfortunate mistake. Sill it doesn't make the Church look good when they admit they don't want members to know.
The widows mite found this out in conversations with the SEC. I have a graph somewhere that showed the next closest I’ll see if I can find it when at my computer. The conversation with Widows Mite the SEC said it was the most egregious case they had seen dealing with the reporting issue.
I posted the response to your question on our Facebook page. The link is facebook.com/groups/716375859901009/permalink/833605501511377/?mibextid=S66gvF
Something I like that is practised in Islam is that you can ask for a loan to buy a car or start a business or buy a home etc. Of course, as it is a loan it must be paid back which is then lent on, to someone else - it is of course an interest-free loan - as Islam believes charging interest is a wicked act to charge your neighbour - it is described as usury in the Holy Bible. Even in middle age Christians Europe, it was considered a sin to charge fellow Christians interest on loans given - this is why many Christian people & countries went to the Jews for loans. Usary is something the Jews have been persecuted for centuries persecution the world saw at its zenith with Hitler's blame of the Jews & the Holocaust not forgetting Sarlin either - but the Jews were not Christians so they could charge interest on the foreign Christians people outside of their religion Faith & race. Exodus 22:25; Leviticus 25:36-37. I will have my pound of flesh! said The Merchant Of Venice 2004 Shylock speech Al Pacino th-cam.com/video/th7euZ30wDE/w-d-xo.html Shouldn't we as a people be moving out of the world? Shouldn't our own behaviour as a people & a church be different to that of the world (in regard to financial worldly practices that are dubious?), don't the scriptures tell us to be in the world but not of the world? & tell us to come out of Babylon? Rev 18:4 "Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues." Would one of those “plagues” be related to a financial Stock Market Crash? As The World Economic Forum is Planning? Shouldn't we be leading the way in these things & not playing Babylons games? Maybe it will come as revelation is continued to be poured out. It's all in the Lord's time frame, not mine!
That is a question I get quite often and it's a great one! I have my master's degree from BYU in Library and Information Science! Before starting Mormon ish, I started a virtual national book club, called the Good book Club for post a nuanced Mormons which has been running for three years now. @@mormonishpodcast1036 but why is it in Spanish? Do you just like that language or do you have another reason than just saying “library” in English instead?

Mormonish has had an impact. We actually introduced a University of Illinois Professor to the widow’s mite group and he became their spokesman joining our Rebecca Bibliotheca on Mormon Stories to review the SEC story. The producers of 60 Minutes saw that episode and called our Professor friend to get details and questions that were asked during the 60 Minutes interview and seen Nationwide by millions of people introducing this issue to the broader public so yes we have made a difference. But none of that matters because it isn’t us that will make the difference but the church leaders whose constant deceit and cover ups will be the deciding factor that will produce the mass exodus from the church.

The church is all about investment but is unwilling to invest people!
It's almost like a corporation that wants to invest as little as possible into the people that work for it.
The money hungry spirit of Joseph Smith Jr rolls on in the old LDS '"church".
The LDS corporation knows how to profit since the LDS church has no prophet.

Nothing should be secret Right 👍👍▶️▶️. Only God knows I guess
They have become Goliath,
It is normal for members to vent but a bad time to be visible about complaints.
Sounds familiar, ie this 3 ring circus of a certain current administration.
Come on, tell the truth cuz you know Jesus Christ 🙏🙏💕💕 is listening 🎧🎧 to you speaking the truth and lies. True story Amen.
Where did you get the “50 times” the highest SEC fine for this type of violation.
@@mormonishpodcast1036 thanks for finding that info for me. I really appreciate how grounded and factual you are in your podcasts!
Second Coming? Last days are fought with sticks and stones in obviously collapsed society/world but Jesus needs our paper money when he returns.
What if the church gave, say, 10% of its income to charity? Seems fair.

Shouldn't we as a people be moving out of the world? Shouldn't our own behaviour as a people & a church be different to that of the world (in regard to financial worldly practices that are dubious?), don't the scriptures tell us to be in the world but not of the world? & tell us to come out of Babylon? Rev 18:4
"Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues."
Would one of those “plagues” be related to a financial Stock Market Crash? As The World Economic Forum is Planning?
Shouldn't we be leading the way in these things & not playing Babylons games? Maybe it will come as revelation is continued to be poured out. It's all in the Lord's time frame, not mine!

Why do you put biblioteca as your surname?
That is a question I get quite often and it's a great one! I have my master's degree from BYU in Library and Information Science! Before starting Mormon ish, I started a virtual national book club, called the Good book Club for post a nuanced Mormons which has been running for three years now. I use that surname because it means library in Latin and Spanish.
@@mormonishpodcast1036 but why is it in Spanish? Do you just like that language or do you have another reason than just saying “library” in English instead?
@@generobbins8714 My college roommates used to tease me because I was getting a library science degree and spent so much time in the library! They called me Rebecca Bibliotheca affectionately and the name stuck because it rhymes..
@@mormonishpodcast1036 aha. Made me think you were Hispanic or speak Spanish. Also it’s spelled “biblioteca” not “bibliotheca”. Dunno if it’s too late to change.

Come on Guys you are wasting time looking for this an that about The church of Jesus Christ of latter because you won't even solve the problem and you are nothing to it focus on yourselves and your families.
@@mormonishpodcast1036 Well said! Thank you ...The church leaders are "the churches" worst enemy.... Wake up members. Excellent video...
