'Lots of lovely things to eat, / and lovely games to play, / greetings to my birthday boy / ...you're 46 today!!' Excellent!! This firm specialises in producing birthday cards -- with the obligatory rhymes, of course... The thing is, they are so serious about their work, they have taken to speaking to each other in rhyme as well! A brilliant sketch by the great comic duo -- The Two Ronnies. I'm sure your students are going to love it too! Level: B2-C1 Topic: Birthdays / Celebrations Taken from the BBC Series 'The Two Ronnies'

G: Eer… “Lots of lovely things to eat and lovely games to play,
Greetings to my birthday boy, you’re 46 today” * (someone comes in)
Come in, come in, ah Arthur Jones; Good morning! How are you?
Sit down, sit down and hurry up - I’ve lots of work to do.
A: I’m sorry to disturb you George.
G: That’s quite all right old lad; now now - come come
don’t look so glum; I’m sure it’s not that bad! *
A: It’s just that I’ve been thinking and I’ve just come in to state
we shouldn’t go on using rhymes on cards - it’s out of date.
G: What? Not use rhymes on birthday cards?? Come, have you lost your mind?
Now please don’t waste my time lad; you can see Miss Green’s behind. *
A: You see, you even speak in verse! It could destroy your health.
This think has gone from bad to worse! I’m doing it myself! *
G: I say, now now, there’s no need to exaggerate old chap;
I do not always speak in rhyme - that’s just a load of c...rubbish! **
But birthday cards without a rhyme! No, no - out of the question!
A: Oh well, I thought I’d mention it. It was only a suggestion.
G: And very welcome too, I’m sure. It’s always nice to know
that lads are thinking on the job. Ta - ta! Mind how you go! *
MG: Well, strike a light! Of all the nerve! I think it’s a disgrace!
I know I’m new round here but still I’d put him in his place!
Tell him to take a running jump! Obnoxious little worm!
G: Now you be careful what you say: he owns the bleeding firm! * - ตลก

Nick, You Got It 👍. You posted Bonanza as well yes? Keep up the good work!!! Regards, appreciated ✌️✌️[(peace man) 😊]
Thank you so much, Linda. 😊 Eeeer... I'm not sure about 'Bonanza'... Is it a sketch by the Two Ronnies? Could you please share a link? 😊
@@tipsforlearners3581 tried to share a link but don't know how. Please search Bonanza San Francisco, good start 👍 some episodes have comedy woven in the show, other episodes more serious BUT Good Values and Virtues (not necessarily Politically Acceptable for Today's Ways). Good Luck Nick ✌️✌️[peace man]
@@tipsforlearners3581 Nick, Something about You wants me for You to Succeed. A couple of shows you may consider, comedy, 'Open All Hours' Ronnie Barker. And check out ' Hogan's Heroes' American Comedy show, popular in 60's & early 70's. Check them out! Haven't seen any Hogan's Hero's posts yet mmm? , maybe the way to go? . Good Luck & Success To You Luv 👍👍👍
And a very nice behind Miss Greene has, as well.
A truer word was never said... :-) :-)
