    I am looking for NAFLD info this morning as I had labs done last week and while my WBC & Platelets are coming up a bit my liver enzyme ALT jumped up 25% and my fatigue level has been super bad this last month along with severe constipation and a nasty case of hemorrhoids! So I thought I was good by having almond butter as a snack for me when I just needed something quick.
    Then I see this video on nuts…I was doing a quick glance of a comment and there I was. Almonds cause inflammation & constipation. I just ordered some more on Amazon to boot. Now I need to do research on phytic acid.
    I have been carnivore since Dec 1 2022 and it seems I cannot cheat in the least seemingly innocent way.
    Thanks again for all the information you impart. I am quickly going to your channel and Dr Lustig’s channel as my go-to channels for the most info that helps me.

    Thank you Dr. Berry! I just had a lightbulb moment. Phytic acid (never heard of it until this video) was the cause of my recent problem with constipation. I'm a 67 year old woman and I've been on keto for a year. Lost 24 pounds. I never had constipation issues until recently. The only thing that changed in my diet was that I joined in on the chaffle craze, eating them every day, and I began snacking on pecans. Chaffles are waffles made with cheese and almond flour. Almond flour and pecans have lots of phytic acid, which interferes with your body's ability to absorb magnesium. I suspect that this is what caused my constipation. Moderation...a lesson I'm still learning.

    • @dathyr1
      @dathyr1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whatever7588 I agree with you. Most store bought peanut butters have about 5g of sugar per serving which is no more than a teaspoon. Also eating a quarter of a jar, that is a huge amount even with no sugar. From my last reply comment, i am cutting out peanut butter for recommended foods. i don't think you can eliminate sugar in peanut butter. The peanuts themselves contain the sugar which is about 2 grams. finding out: So they are not sugar free, some are just no added sugar. Sodium is very high also - anywhere from 110 to150mg.

    Our ancestors had to crack open their nuts. If it takes half an hour to shell a handful you won't scoff them. Also, if you eat delicious, fresh, new-season's nuts in the shell you'll likely find you no longer want to eat the old and often rancid ones from the shops. (rancid Omega 6 oils are toxic) They're worth the effort.

    I was in the grocery store last night picking up a few items and decided to take a quick look at the bulk nut/grain/candy area. Both raw macadamia nuts and raw shelled pecans were over $9 a lb. I just shook my head and walked away. I'm so thankful I am surrounded by pecan trees at my home and the nuts are starting to fall. The only thing we'll have to pay is time in picking them up and a bit of real $$ to have them cracked for us...and more time to pick them out of their shells. But fresh pecans year round (we always freeze several lbs) is worth the effort.
    But here is a question; does roasting the pecans raise the carb count? I know roasting certain veggies does, but does that apply to nuts as well?

      Be careful with brazil nuts, though. You don't want selenium deficiency, but you don't want selenosis, either (and that includes chronic, low-level, subclinical and/or semiclinical selenosis). Getting selenosis from chronically ingesting too many brazil nuts is very rare but (sadly enough) it still can happen. Brazil nuts need to be treated with respect. I love using brazil nuts whenever I can as a mineral supplement; one a day is enough for me (or on rare occasions maybe two). :-D

I’m assuming I have lowered my basal metabolic rate a bit as well since I lost 40+ pounds in the last 4 months. So might not be able to keep losing by eating the same amount as before. Karen, I'm interested in knowing the answer to this as well. I'm commenting here to get the notification when somebody answers. Hopefully Dr. Berry sees your question and helps us, but he gets way too many comments, so it will be difficult. Also, 1 ounce of almonds has 6.1g of carbs, of which 3.5g are fiber. My understanding is that net carbs are what one has to look at in the ketogenic diet. This makes 2.6g of net carbs in 1 ounce of almonds. This is still a low amount, isn't it?

      Almonds are super high in oxalates. Almond flour is ground up oxalates. I don't know why Dr. Berry hasn't mentioned oxalates, because most nuts are high oxalate. Just do a search for Sally Norton, the queen of oxalate education. Once I went Carnivore 5+ yrs ago, 3yrs in my allergies of 48yrs disappeared. Oxalates have been connected to heart disease and cancers...plus sooo many other health issues. Oxalates are a neurotoxin, connected to dementia and Alzheimer's. Dr. Berry had Dr. Ede on, so I'm just so surprised he's telling people nuts are good to eat. Sally Norton's book, Toxic Superfoods, is fabulous. I have saved over 120 of her YT interviews over the past 5+ yrs.

    Your link to the Pili nuts and several other brands of pili nuts all state that they are 'sprouted' pili nuts. That deals with the phytic acid issue. Sprouting, soaking, or darn, there is a third option that deals with the PA/Antinutrient issue and I can't recall what it was, and can't find the article I had just been reading a couple of weeks ago. I'm leaning toward fermentation, but that seems to easy an answer. Anyway, if these are indeed sprouted nuts, then they won't be an issue.
