Some great design ideas there Dave! As to the dead 7x20mm motor, it's always a possibility to get a dud but have you checked that you have them spinning in the directions that they are designed for? That's 1 sure way to kill them very quickly! Pull the rear end off the dead 1 and you'll easily see the way they should be spun. (I'm assuming that you bought a set of matching CW/CCW motors for a quad?) We have the boards and 5-wire servos from the WLToys/XK A100 3-ch jets on hand now and have scrounged some nichrome wire from a dead toaster via Mitre11 (the local dump!) So we hope to get something done after the Loony Season is over! That will give us the luxury of running on our Multi Radios. 😉😊
The 7x20mm motors were an FR CR set that I bought from Micronwings.com and were wired to match the colours of the wires. I will take it apart and do a postmortem soon. It may have ingested a strand of hot glue, or I may have damaged the bearings when I pushed the prop on, not sure. It made a real squeal when I revved it up, so something major has gone wrong. One of the guys in the club gave me an EBay link to a four motor set of 8.5x20mm cordless motors and props for a quad copter. Is good value for 4 motors and 12 props. Regarding the multi-protocol radios - I have a couple of TX's in mind, which would open up a whole rang of receivers for me. Still thinking about it... Mitre11 - handy source of raw materials! I must admit I keep an eye on the recycle bins for potential building materials!
Nice one David. I look forward to the next report.
hey, that’s pretty good!
I’m getting there - just need to sort the radio TX fault and replace the motors, then it should be good.

What a beauty! Flys well! Nice n slow too 👌 everything I try make is way to heavy 😂
Yes, it is always a balance between weight and strength. Still learning!
