Ofc this a marathon not a sprint, much love🫶🏾🫶🏾

I have seen quite a few reactors say that they want to play an instrument because of metal, but you are the first one I have seen who was serious and genuinely wants to learn the instrument. I wish nothing but the best for you dawg, your channel deserves so much more recognition. Keep on doin' what you're doin', I'm excited to see the rest of this series. :]
Yea I’ll get my shine down the line, content with the community that’s been growin🫶🏾love and appreciate yall frfr
@@yourfavoritedxrkskin ayy we love and appreciate you too bro, you bring all the energy i need when my day is goin bad. keep it up, we got your back. :D
for real it almost seems like every other reactor is kind of just putting on a huge facade, i don’t know how this guy hasn’t grown more by now
Be patient and realistic about your progress. Learning an instrument is humbling. Especially for smart and/or athletic people. We’re used to getting good at something very quickly. It is tough. Just stick with it and don’t expect to be a bad ass right away. Having said that, you’ll love it and do great. Just know it takes time.
Very humbling but I’m very determined so imma be locked in, love🫶🏾
@ Right on, brother.
Bro yesss!!! Been drumming for 25 years and it never stops being fun. Glad you snagged a decent kit too, most people grab some cheap no name thing from AliExpress and wonder why it's a piece of crap lol. Also, strongly recommend grabbing a GOOD drum throne. It makes all the difference when you're sitting for hours at a time. Look out for your health first! So stoked for you!!!
Yea na can’t get nun cheap lol and I gotchu🫶🏾

I fw you heavy bro. You’re doing great with everything and seeing this video genuinly made me smile so bad. I’m here for the journey and I’m excited to see where you’ll go!
Much love brudda, means a lot🫶🏾🫶🏾
The best advice I can give, from a drummer of over 20 years, is always practice with your metronome. Just start slow, and be consistent. Practice like you are playing for real, and eventually you won’t even think about it because you’re having fun. Feel free to DM whenever, man.
Love🫶🏾🫶🏾
It's honestly inspiring how into it you've gotten so quickly. You didn't mess around, got yourself that instrument and started building a routine immediately, which is really the most important thing. As you said, getting used to the feeling and building that muscle memory is key for doing anything smoothly.

some real cool songs to play along with are:
radiohead - creep
weezer - say it aint so
blur - shes so high
Couldn't get the smile off my face the whole video. Gotta give us like weekly bi-weekly updates. Go Birds!
I have been drumming for about 2 years. Its all about consistency. There were times when I wouldn't feel like I was making progress. Don't worry, it happens. I record myself sometimes, and just looking back at some of my old videos, its amazing how far I've come. From drummer to drummer You got this bro ❤️

As a fellow drummer ALL you need to know about learning an instrument is put in the work. You don't need to be better than anyone. Just slowly learn what you love. If you get hooked you can start learning theory and language. SO HAPPY you are drumming my friend!!

i always wanted to sing for more hardcore and extreme shi and i finally started learning because of me getting into metal again

I play bass, but I do have an electric kit. I'm def just a bass player so far, but as far as having two different patterns across different limbs, something that helps me is practicing polyrhythms. Polyrhythm stuff can be advanced so no need to go deep yet, but if you learn 3:4 (for example; 2:3 is another easy one) and learn it slow as one pattern played with two limbs and just sit playing it for a while you can start to switch your mindset on what you're currently playing from playing one pattern to two patterns at once, on the same beat. So if you do it slow and count out 1--2-3--4--5-6 (numbers you count aren't important, I just mean count it slow as one pattern, you can count 1--2-1--2--1-2 etc), just do that for a while, and as you're doing it switch your focus/mindset from feeling one pattern to feeling how you're playing 3 on one limb and 4 on the other. That way you can just meditate on a beat for a while and then switch your mindset about it at your own pace. Just a small thing I found helps me. Trying to do two patterns at once can throw a speed bump in front of my brain sometimes so just count it as one thing and then feel the two as you're doing it. Force your body to do it and then allow your brain to feel it at it's own pace

been playing since i was 6, im 21 now, my biggest beginner tip is to learn billie jean. On top of that is of course endurance and technique, but billie jean is a great song to learn the basics to. Excited to watch the journey!
Bet that! Love🫶🏾
When I was first getting into drumming I met a gospel drummer at my granny's church. He told me to start off simply practicing rolls, and get my hands and wrists working good together. He said start with the basic LRLR and LLRR patterns, then after a good while try LLLRRR and LRLLRLRR.
I followed his advice and it really seemed to make a difference in my playing. I used a practice pad back then, but your snare pad on your drum set will work fine

Cool stuff, man! Glad you are actually pursuing drums. I would say, though, you must, must, MUST start with the basic fundamentals before attempting ANY patterns and/or fills! Or even beats besides 4/4 at a slow BPM.
You'll need a metronome, which is probably a feature on your E-Kit's brain. If not, it wouldn't hurt to have an actual metronome.
Start with simply keeping time with a pulse. The pulse is the backbeat of the beat itself, so it is often keeping time with the hi hat, or maybe a ride. But I'd use your metronome and literally play along with it via playing JUST the hi hat or JUST the ride. Play along, then adjust to a higher BPM after 20 minutes or so. The purpose of this is to acclimate to internalizing the FEEL of different BPM's relative to each other. Over time, you'll develop an intuitive feel for different BPM's, and eventually different beats and even polyrhythms and Polymetrics. But that will come way later.
After practicing by simply playing a pulse at increasing BPM's, then and only then should you move onto an actual BACKBEAT. Do the same thing you were previously doing as described above, but now with a 4/4 beat. This means emphasizing the first and THIRD count in the beat (the one being accented with the KICK and the 3 being accented with the SNARE in this case). ONE two THREE four, ONE two THREE four, etc. Play this beat for 20 minutes or so, then stop and slightly increase the BPM on your metronome. Do the same for another 20 minutes or so and repeat until you can't keep up with the BPM anymore.
I'd say continue with this routine for a few weeks. Then you might be ready to start learning different types of counts, like 3/4. 6/8, etc. Not super complicated or anything, but enough to challenge your dexterity and limb independence.
After a few weeks of that, then you might be ready to attempt playing along to relatively straight forward songs, like maybe early Beatles, or any straight ahead rock that features the type of backbeat you've been practicing.
You might also be ready to start focusing on the inclusion kick and double kick hits. Simply start with quarter notes and try doubling from quarter to 8th notes with each passing measure. And maybe attempt an 8th note triplet before going to 16ths.
I'm sure a lot of this is kinda Greek to you. I invite you to further research the things in my post that you don't understand by searching youtube for performance tutorials and the like. An example would be something like: play 8th note triplets on your kick pedals with a 4/4 back beat on the ride cymbal and snare at 120 BPM. Maybe look up 8th note triplets so you have an idea of what that sounds like.
I just want to contribute to your journey in any way I can. By no means is any of this definitive nor do you need to read this or take any of it to heart at all! But my hope is that it does help establish a reliable routine for you, because drumming for beginners can be quite daunting and overwhelming.
Thanks for reading and keep up the awesome videos!
Imma always read stuff my supporters saying tryna look out, much love and will do🫶🏾🫶🏾
@@yourfavoritedxrkskin Hell yeah, I appreciate it! And I'll be watching your progress!
Best advice right here
Make sure to keep a fine balance between learning and just jamming out. You’ll need patience but once you get a good feel for it you’d be on a roll. It’s a never ending journey. Also if you can, surround yourself with other musicians from any genre. I started 18 years ago. Mate it’s up to you how you want to do this but the main thing is to enjoy and keep the passion going
Most def🫶🏾
@ mate I think you’d love to listen to Coal Chamber, their self titled album first and their dark days album. They go hard!
If you stick with it, you can become an inspiration to many keep it up!
much love
Hell yeah man, just practice everyday and keep working at it, it took me a while to play Slipknot but I got to it. Start off easy and work your way up. it can be frustrating at times but that’s the fun in it, I’ll be playing for 8 years this year and I have still many things to work on, we all do. Joey is a huge influence to me, I really recommend watching some videos of Jimmy The Rev Sullivan, he is probably the main reason I play. Just listen to a lot of bands and find those influences!
Love🫶🏾🫶🏾
Learning how to read tabs will definitely help, also I knew drummers would carry stick wherever they go and will bang them on everything. But highly recommend getting a Metronome, it will help keeping beat
Wil do
Your starting off really strong just keep going the more you learn the more you practice its gets easier youll just develop muscle memory and in a couple months youll see mad progress

you gotta buy a throne! If you keep at it you're gonna kill it. As long as you have the passion of a musician.
Most def and ofc I’m gna learn to play these songs by any means😂
I also can’t read sheet music but completely self taught myself on drums back in jr high and I’m 27 now. It will 100% take time. I might suggest maybe straight 8th or 16th notes over and over with your hands around the whole kit. Get familiar with the set. Just for reps of 5 minutes straight or so just hitting everything to get familiar with the set. Almost to the point that you could hit drums or cymbals with your eyes closed. (You don’t have to but that’s an example)

Heya, glad to see your commin along ♥
Don't forget that metranome, you can get one as a phone app or a stand alone item. But, use it to help you build time, start your practice at like 80bpm and slowly crank it up as you get used to the pattern and the timing. Then you can start removing the beeps to make it so your keeping the time and only hearing a occasional beep to keep yourself on track.
Yea I gotta get a usb and all that stuff
Just when I thought you couldn’t get any cooler bruh. Keep up the practice and you’ll do great trust

Hey bro 🤘 dude! U have some great chops for just starting out! We all suck in the beginning man. Being good at something is only a pursued practice and I’d like to commend you on putting it out there bro. It’s an unsure a vulnerable kind of situation but I’m sure you’ll get a lot of positive support from those who have sat on the same box as you! (Bad joke) anyways dude just some personal notes for u; for holding the stick, it can be a personal preference but the most important thing is where you rest your pointer finger on the stick. It’s called the “fulcrum point” it helps u not have to use your wrist action so much. I’d say trying to nail down the 4/4 time signature is were to start. I can’t read music either but it’s good rudimentary stuff. It can be difficult to get that bass in there at the same time at first. Simple is great tho. Just learn to get comfortable. I understand space utilization and everything too but maybe consider getting the kit out of the corner. It might seem weird but I believe it can affect your subconscious to feel “cornered” into something. Maybe put it out a little more open. . Just some thoughts my dude. Keep on rockin man! I know you’ll do great things! 🤘
