I affirm every teaching of the One True Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church The only Church Jesus founded and the Church btgst existed before the bible was completed
Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish, but to fulfill. This is often interpreted by Christians to mean that Jesus replaces the Law, which is peculiar, because whether you say that the Law has been replaced or that it's been abolished; there's no real fundamental difference, on account of the Law no longer being applicable. And the verse there juxtaposes abolishing the Law with fulfilling it, which means that whatever fulfillment means there, it cannot entail the cessation of the Law. The statement would become contradictory. Rather, I think it's fairly obvious that the verse means that Jesus followed the Law entirely and completely. If you fill up a glass with water, you have literally fully filled the glass up with water, and so its functionality has been realized. If the glass represents the whole of the Law, and every millimeter of glass, from the bottom to the top represents a commandment; then NOT fully filling the glass and leaving a few millimeters of glass at the top 'unused', would mean that you haven't followed ALL laws. A completely filled glass means that you have succesfully observed all of the commandments. The verse then means that Jesus isn't going to get rid of the commandments, but he's showing the believers what it is to be the most strict and righteous follower of said Law. Also note the inclusion of the prophets. He hasn't come to abolish the prophets, but to fulfill them. Prophets before him came with laws and teachings, and he isn't denying them or rejecting them or nullifying them; he's saying he's walking in their footsteps: they're still relevant and whatever they taught that is incumbent upon him and the believers to adhere to: he himself follows that. He doesn't replace the prophets. They're all his brothers. If all of the prophets before him taught monotheism, then he isn't going to abolish that. If the prophets foretold certain things concerning him, then he fulfills those prophecies. Think of the water in the glass analogy again. Why that analogy? Because that's quite literally the meaning of both the Greek [plérēs] as well as the Aramaic [mlāy] words that are used here: "to be full" or "to be complete". So if one prophet or very devout believer follows the Law to its completion, and has perfected their obedience to God's commandments, then does that mean that thereafter, all other believers no longer have to try their best and follow said commandments anymore? If you can't fully observe said commandments, because you err and you stray and you struggle, does that mean that you might as well stop trying, and just believe that simply because someone else before you perfectly followed God's commandments, you can abandon the Law and that's fine now? It's like some kid beats Tetris, and just because that player beat the game, now all others can stop trying, and just by believing in that one kid's victory, you will be rewarded and your name will be forever included on the scoreboards. Was Tetris created for that purpose? The game becomes obsolete as soon as someone beats it? The Law of God is only pertinent until Jesus comes and fulfills it? Then now you can eat pork and drink alcohol and be a secular liberal and wear a miniskirt when you go spend your wealth in the mall? And you're still 'saved' because 'Jesus fulfilled the Law!"? I mean, how delusional is that? Just read James' Epistle.

The Baptism of Jesus Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
