- This year may have been Donkey Kong’s 40th birthday, but what a lot of people don’t know is that this wasn’t his only milestone, as this month marks the 25th anniversary of his glorious tv show. Exactly 25 year ago, the powers of antiquated motion capture technology, Canadian tax dollars, and the audacity of the French, joined forces to create the greatest show in the history of television, and I’ve teamed up with Bootleg Dubs and Napalm Records to produce this celebratory anniversary short!

If Nintendo's making movies regarding their all-stars, no question, Mario and Donkey Kong deserve to have this style of animation and well-written songs for these types of sequences/moments.
I miss seeing traditional animation in theaters. I hope it returns to the big screen in a meaningful way.

Ifkr. There were so many things from the old show that this video was just the biggest nostalgia trip just as much as it was an immensely well-done redo of an old childhood show song. Legit, Nintendo needs to hire these mf's if they EVER plan on doing a new DKC cartoon show.

As much as I ironically love the motion capture of the original cartoon, this goes to show what a more cartoonish and high budget modern DK cartoon could look like. It’s so lively and I love the liberties taken with the designs, especially the funny monkees. It’s a shame the DKC property has fallen off the starboard side in recent years, and something like this would probably never be realized into a show. But if it were give this man full creative control!

Good lord, how long did this take to make?! It is so incredibly high quality that I assumed it was officially Nintendo endorsed… then realized it was an Alestorm song.
The animation quality is out of this world. It’s like a big budget music video with so much care put into it- I couldn’t tell whether it was 2D or 3D. That is a testament to how well this is made!
The beautiful charm of the DK characters being honored and made manifest with the goofy but tense gags and atmosphere.
This is honestly one of the best things I’ve seen in two decades of watching TH-cam. I never even checked the length of the video with how invested I was with this!

Good times were had every time I watched that show. Scurvy and his crew were always a treat.
My favorite episode is still the Christmas expo episode, where Klump and Scurvy were revealed to be brothers. I still have to fight back tears after that reveal.
Small detail I love: when DK confronts K. Rool, he heads straight for the coconut, not a punch. Protecting the island comes first, not petty revenge! (that comes second)

As a rare Unironic Donkey Kong Country Show Liker and Alestorm Nerd, this is the best thing I've seen all week. Nay, all YEAR. All DECADE, even!
When I was a confused teenager I got a little figure of Skurvy and he's meant a lot to me as a good luck charm. As a character he represents the fun, campy villain pirate aesthetic I love so much. So to see his iconic song covered by one of my favourite bands was absolutely mind-blowing, and now this just made it even better!
The animation and character designs here are stunning, the style is so, so good, I'm living for all the character cameos (rip Bluster) and everything just had me smiling like a dork. I'm just overflowing with good emotions right now. This is like something I had in my head for ages but not the skill to make it - and you just went and made it. Flawless, absolutely flawless. Thanks so much for realizing a lil dream I had for so long and keep up the great work!

It’s insane how this is like a full-blown studio production level of quality and like. incomprehensibly beautiful animation. It’s incredible that works like this exist, and that people as talented as you can put so much work into turning such a niche song into _this_ purely out of passion. This is truly inspiring to animators like myself, so please: keep doing what you love, this is truly one of the best animated works ive seen EVER!!

When I was a kid, this was my favorite song from the old DK TV show. The animation wasn’t all that great even for the time, but songs like Pirate’s Scorn were one of the reasons the show was something of a success. Was a crazy hit in France from what I heard. But if they ever brought it back in this style, it being a hit wouldn’t be in question.

There's a lot of great references to the show in this, but my favourite attention to detail in this was including the three taps of Cranky's cane to open the coconut's container, at 1:52 (having it on beat with the music made it even better).
It's those little things that go to show just how passionate this team are for the source material.

It's been a long time since I last watched the original show. Now watching it again as an adult, I realize that I don't think my child brain ever appreciated what an absolute BANGER this song actually is.

Just realized a year later that Cranky is reading a Smash Invite LOL all the little background "blink-and-you-miss" details are genius.
From the thumbnail alone I can already tell you put in more care about DK as a whole and his anniversary more than Nintendo has by a mile.

Anyone else get vibes from Treasure Planet in his animation? Because hot DAMN those frames are smooth. The fluidity reminds me of that movie so much it's eerily similar to the style. What a production my friend, bravo. And of course, you can't go wrong with Alestorm.
Couldn't put my finger on it but Silvers VA could definitely fit Skurvy. And they even have similar body types, and of course they're both pirate captains!
I've never actually watched Treasure Planet, but I do get 2D Disney vibes from this.

Dang this is a high quality animation. I'd watch a reboot of the show if it looked like this
I doubt that the entirety of the upcoming official animated Mario movie from Illumination will remotely compare to the quality and memorability of this less-than 3 minutes worth of animation

I haven't actually seen the live-action movie, I only watched the Nostalgia Critic's review of it and read a bit about it; but from what I saw, I didn't even think it was so bad it's good. It just seemed painfully stupid, if you ask me. It didn't even really have anything to do with the source material; it just had a whole bunch of weird things with Mario names tacked on to them. There's a guy named Koopa; it wasn't Koopa. He had henchmen called Goombas; they weren't Goombas. They had creatures used for food called Tweeters; they weren't Tweeters! It all seemed like just a "What the heck is this supposed to be?!" trip. I also heard even the people that made it ended up hating it. So, yeah, I don't really think it has charm.
@@videogollumer I haven't seen it either, so what do I know? I was just going under assumption. Regardless, I have the feeling the Illumination movie will fall under being boring and unfunny, as most of their projects do to me. Maybe Nintendo's involvement can save it, but I'll wait for a trailer before I judge.

Everything about this is amazing: The animation, the sound the effects, the proper use of the song. I think the best thing about it is that this could easily be canon to the show, since Skurvy showed himself to be the most competent villain on the show at times.
