That sounds like something else
A way to limit how OP it is is either limit how fast it can rotate. Make it so it can’t rotate while firing (so you have to be more accurate when firing at capital ship engines and harder to shoot fighters.) and so that it does have some protection from fighters, have smaller machine guns around it to ward off the fighters.

you forgot nova cannon and T4 gatling guns which apparently weren't already op enough so they buffed them to 150 dph and 60 shots a second, totalling in at 9000 dps, thats 3x as much as what it was before

actually . Hey Jack. You ever seen an Onager MAC. In halo they use them as planetary defenses. Look up onager mac halo reach and youll see what I mean. The drones have the lasers and the RWI has the MAC technology.

Imagine having this hidden into a hillside and ambushing unsuspecting aircraft.
For your next series maybe as part of the story you come across "precursor" planet with hundreds of these Hostile PSLs that attack everything on site. Would be interesting to see how both factions handle the problem and what ship builds you make to counter them

I can imagine this being put on a flagship of some sort
Here's a possible set piece for these, a fighter raid.
RWI detects a GDA shipyard on the lava planet and sensing opportunity, decide to bomb it. Trouble is, it's covered by both these Orbital Defence Lasers and a myriad of other anti ship weapons. Using a fleet of fighters, you have to take out enough of the yard's defences on a time limit so the bombing run can do the maximum amount of damage possible.
I was thinking something similar, but more protecting a starship
@@CaptainJack Why not both? A starship in a shipyard. I mean come on, what's a more strategic target, a single, easily replaced starship? Or a whole manufacturing facility?

This is a significantly simplified version of another laser. This laser is infinitely more practical and just as powerful but the other one is much cooler looking and has an incredible charging and opening/closing animation. They both are really cool!

Seems like that laser would fit perfectly with that carrier. The bow of the carrier looks alot like that planetary laser design

He then proceeds to make it many times more powerful by disassembling it, and rebuilding it with Soviet surplus parts.
We need an orange one, because this will definitely be fitting for a certain ship I know of. The SDF Olympus Mons, beautiful.

Why do I get the feeling that this is going to captured by RWI in some future episode and added to the base
people are getting smarter and computers are getting stronger I wanna see more people playing this game
It's things like this that make me wish we had components for multi-block super-weapons. Something like "Laser battery -> Beam Emitter -> Focusing Lens -> Laser Radiator" That kind of stuff. Give us a reason to build colossal laser-stations and giant anti-capital ship weapons, rather than just 10 more missile turrets... while also giving players a chance to get creative with how they assemble these weapons.
I wanna see this thing tacked onto the top of the hero's ship and used to obliterate Green Drone ships.

Jack, just a heads up but the laser can actually cut through terrain as well and make a excellent tunnel. I built 2 in my survival game. Just the "atlas laser" and used them to run a long conveyor underground through a mountain.

imagine just a bunch of these lined up in rows just wrecking everything you throw at it
Now modify and do a bi or tri-mount for these, and have them remote controlled, then use them as a ship turret, or additionally have it so there are 3-4 or more lasers per cannon for when you want every thing dead. Could also use the Torpedo mod to add additional firepower so large ship torps with possible nuke warheads, and the main guns being these tri or bi turret lasers. Not to mention the point defense systems as well. Would make for a mean warship. Possible for a Yamato build as well, and use the lasers for it's pulse wave cannon, just mount 9 or so lasers next to each other hooked up to a reactor or ammobox.

@@retardwrangler8822 Yes, it could look so good. Imagine hanger doors that open and then it extends out and can fire 360 and then retract back into the hull. Though, I think the gun would be so big it needs its own specialized ship for it.
Also as a side note, could you imagine how cool ship fights would be if the Jump Drive explosion mod was built into the game? Even the one on the laser weapon could be like a critical spot and causes it to violently explode.

This weapon is the epitome of perfection. If a few of these were used against a capital ship and or a ground base no one will survive (if it is possible to use this as a ship-mounted weapon). I really want to see that.

I have a question? Is there way to put this kind of laser in the CAS-Assault Carrier in Space Engineers
The Atlas Superlaser is about as powerful as capital-grade energy projectors, so I will back this idea.

Big Subnautica quarantine platform vibes.
I think this a hint for a future Colony Lost.
I use the 2 cm beam laser for my flagship. Charge time is about 15 seconds per shot. You can use the new particle effect mod to make steam after firing
reminds me of my WIP turret design with the 2cm beams, trust me, laser pulse turrets, if i actually build a ship to house it.... the laser generators are in the ship, the emitters are on a turret mount, if i can get it to work on a ship....
While I was watching this I got three different halo vibes
1. The gun looks like the mac from halo reach
2. The gun extending to fire reminds me of the halo wars 2 opening cutscene
3. When the defender was coming down it looked like the infinity when it came down in halo 4.
More lasers are absolutely necessary
The turret design reminds me of a BPPU turret. My favorite turret, found on the MTLB-6MB, and the BTR-80A, 82A, and 87 variants
