When I heard the noises coming from it while running on the hoist, I would have said 'bad pinion bearing'. That, of course makes the visible wear on the crown gear collateral damage. By the way, I may be able to explain the negative pressure in the diff as you removed the drain plug. If the C6 is the same as the C5, it will have a vent with a check valve in it. Allows pressure built up due to heat expanding the air in the unit to be vented, but maintains some vacuum during cool down. This was reputed to be GM's effort to reduce driveway leakage issues. I have had a new C5 Vent in my hands and can verify the check valve action as described.
i have the same prob i bought the car used within a month it was making that noise i changed the fuids added ams oil gear lube and it got worse mines in 4 and 5 and 6 gear it makes that same noise.not sure what it is and what caused it but i was told to replace it with another one.what fluid do you recommend to use to fill a new diff on the c6
Great video. Will these seize if they fail? My C5 diff is making noise. I have a cooler for it too. Was going to just run it for the rest of the season. But i don't want it to seize in the middle of a high speed corner.
How many miles did you have on this car when this video was shot 3.5 years ago? Why'd you replace the differential in the first place? BTW: The engine sounds very healthy.
The diff is designed to have a vacuum when it cools down. The little rubber flapper inside the vent is designed to let pressure OUT but seals under a vacuum. If you didnt hear that suction, THEN, you should be concerned. Suction is totallt normal in the C5 & C6 differentials.
@@johnleca John, you need an adapter plate to match up the auto trans to the newer design 2006 to 2013 differential. I think RPM performance had them, but not sure.
Yeah definitely didn’t set something up right in that ring and pinion I’ve heard that telltale noise a few times LOL but great video brother!
Thanks for the awesome content Danny!!
That's not oil, it's that new pearl base house of colors, stinky copper😆 that orange silicone suggests that it was a known issue. Good vids👍

No guarantee, anything is possible. Thanks
Such a pretty car

Great video
You made that look easy.
Es compatible el diferencial de corvette 2008 C6 para ponerlo en uno 2005
Did u ever find out if 08 work for 05
@@nickotto8003it doesn’t at least for manual transmission, i had to get the same year 2005 diff

Good to know, thanks! Always learning.
Any updates on this?
Yes it's doing good. This is the install video, th-cam.com/video/9I8g8jszF0Y/w-d-xo.html it gets lost in the FedEx drama. Thanks
My 25K mile C6 rear diff starting to go.............Total FUKN JUNK !!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS GM !!!!!!
This was a bad setup that failed, can't blame GM for this one.
There are used ones out there or just rebiuld it yourself easier than you think
Same exact issue with mine
Is this what happens when you do those illegal side shows ???
What did DTE charge for rebuild?
It was done years ago, I don't remember now.
2005 Corvettes have the weak one year design differential. 2006 and up C6 have the stronger design.
Correct, this one was upgraded before with a 06 and up.
do the newer 2006 plus fit the 2005?

@@z512345 Hey, thanks for the information, I appreciate it. John
And I’m sure that center section wasn’t cheap to begin with
Not cheap at all!
Nevermind old vidio
West Coast Corvette has them.
What did the noise sound like?
A growling when on the gas, kind of in the middle of the car.
