  • (10 Apr 2018) TRACY MORGAN GETS HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME STAR
Comic actor Tracy Morgan got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday (10 APRIL 2018) with support from Martin Lawrence, who gave him his first break in showbiz, and Jordan Peele, who is producing his latest TV series.
"When I was a poor kid growing up in the projects in Brooklyn, I never dreamed I would have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame," he said. "And now that I'm here, I have to tell you, I feel pretty comfortable. No, I'll tell you why: because of the smell of weed and stale urine, just like being in the projects, man. Just like weed and stale urine. I'll tell you what would really make me feel at home is if somebody spray-painted graffiti on my star."
The ceremony came nearly four years after a traffic crash that left Morgan - best known for "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock" -- in a coma for two weeks. It was June 7, 2014, when a Wal-Mart truck slammed into the limousine Morgan was riding in. The crash killed a close friend and fellow comedian, and left Morgan with broken bones and brain damage.
"This man right here is a legend. He is going down in history," said "Get Out" writer-director Jordan Peele, who is executive producing Morgan's new TBS series "The Last O.G." He recounted a meeting with the 49-year-old performer two years ago.
"At one point in this meeting, this meeting - this breakfast that we had, he looks over at the other end of the Four Seasons and he goes - you know who that is, Jordan? You know who that is? I was like no, who is it? That's Larry Flynt. He goes, you want to meet Larry Flynt? I'm like, no. He's like, let's go. So we walk over to Larry Flynt's table," Peele said. "He goes Mr. Flynt, I just want to say, your work helped me through a very hard time. If there is anything you need from me, I'll be there for you. Mr. Flynt looks up at Tracy and with all the love in his heart, he just looks at Tracy and he goes, 'Ahhhhhhhhh.'"
Morgan said Peele's comedy sketches helped him "speed up my healing process." Lawrence met Morgan at Def Comedy Jam and gave him a role on his 1990s comedy series "Martin."
Morgan said the star - the 2,633rd on the Walk of Fame - was an important milestone in his life.
"This is the culmination of many years of work and trying to be a good person in this world. So I just think the chambers of commerce of Hollywood for immortalizing my name. Long after I'm gone, my great, great, great grandkids grandkids can walk up to my star and say that's my grandfather. So that's the foundation. That's important to me," he said.
