Just returned from Marti Gras. From major design flaws in safety, comfort, form to basic functionality, we are going back to the Vista Class. ❤️Vista, Horizon and Panorama: This ship is nothing more than a large cargo container ship, the economy of scale only benefiting CCL at the passengers expense. Every sing venue or feature simply doesn’t have the capacity to handle the 5300 to 6300 passengers. As a result one ends up waiting, waiting and waiting for everything or so overcrowded it’s simply NOT enjoyable. In fact, 90% of our “awake time” on the ship was waiting or giving up on the venue overcrowding, simply way too many people. As far as food quality; awful compared to our 50 years of Carnival experience. In fact, we all re-named one eating venue to “Sh*tBang”. Pictures, videos and plenty of case numbers with Guest (NO) Services documenting massive shortcomings and horrible treatment by the staff. If this is Carnival’s future, they will not be in ours and the thousands who stated the same aboard the ship. Mardi Gras is a prototype for the Excel class and unfortunately due to the pandemic the November 2022 arrival date of Celebration is a direct carbon copy of the Marti Gras, now 2 horrible dysfunctional prototypes. If there are not major redesigns to the Jubilee, all 3 ships will need major refitting’s to compete with the 3 Vista Class Ships and growing competition in the cruising industry. The CCL Excell class will destroy Carnivals loyal customer base just as it has done with us and thousands aboard our cruise stating “never again Carnival”. Both the ship and the company are NOT the Carnival we grew to ❤️ over our last 50 years with Carnival. As they say, “all good things must come to an end”, Carnival Cruise Line, sadly, is no exception to that rule.

Let me suggest that you take a look at the profound cabin guide and ship review that I had created long before this ship set sail. You will find it on my channel. First of all, cruising is a pleasure. However a few conditions have to be met to make it a real pleasure. These are the three intrinsic parts of the cruise: 1.The ship 2. The itinerary. 3. The price. At least two of them have to be right. We were booked on the inaugural sailing. It was a good reason to travel to Europe, to see a couple of ports we had not been before, and see the ship (to which I contributed my huge work on TH-cam ). Part 1 - the ship. As you can tell, I knew (practically) everything about the ship. And I knew the ship was a floating anthill designed to maximize revenue, with the best Carnival traditions thrown overboard. But... I had a technical interest, and that was an event - the inaugural sailing. Part 2 - the itinerary. The itinerary was great. Part 3 - the price. The price was insanely high due to the "event". So, with the circumstances mentioned above, the "ship part" was considered good. The itinerary was good. Conditions met (two out of three). Unfortunately the inaugural sailing was cancelled. Since then, I don't see reasons to take a cruise on this ship. The ship itself is 3* (overcrowded, narrow cabins, no proper promenade deck, no proper observation deck, no proper observation lounge, no proper spa, miserable pools...) The itineraries are boring: a Caribbean cruise MUST include 4 ports (and not less than 7 days). The Mardi Gras cruises offer only three ports. And the price is too high for the product of this quality. What ship is good for the first time? The most stupid answer is: "it depends on what you prefer". It has to be understood that cruising is a different world. So (one of) the first rules will be: leave your habits at home. The first-timer is a learner. The best introduction to cruising is a cruise ship that offers a balance of comfort, personal space, good food, quality shows and a single most precious and unique quality of cruising - connection to the sea - all that on a good (full) itinerary for a reasonable price. The price may be little higher - it's OK. Connection to the sea is the most precious quality... but cruise lines don't make money on that. So what they want is to turn you off the sea and connect you to the bar 24/7. They now build floating anthills to attract "new clientele" that has no idea of what a cruise ship should look like. It's easier to sell them less cruising for more money. Generally speaking, with rare exceptions, the newest ships are the worst throughout the industry. FAR better options for the first-timers in November: Nov 30 - Nieuw Statendam (7 days) - classic style cruising (with some omissions) Nov 30 - Carnival Magic (8 days) - Carnival style on a better ship Nov 9 - Freedom of the Seas (8 days) - it's only three ports but the ship is incomparably better than Mardi Gras Nov 29, Nov 8 - Rotterdam (9 days) - classic style cruising (with some omissions) Dec 1 - Caribbean Princess (8 days) - most romantic ship in this list I believe you have just enough time to make changes. But we historically have liked Royal Caribbean so we're wondering how Mardi Gras stacks up vs RC as far as main dining room food and show quality? And, of course, overall experience. We cruise a lot of different lines. They all have pros and cons. The Mardi Gras has a feel more like RC. It is a new ship with great design. You will be happy with it.
The nearest in size RC ships are Oasis Class ships. The Mardi Gras is a huge floting anthiil in comparison. We two upcoming cruise vacations in the nearest few month. I keep an eye on the MG itineraries and prices. The itineraries are among the worst, and the prices are too high for the floating block of narrow cabins like this. No comparison may be between the Oasis class and the Mardi Gras as far as show quality is concerned.

Love your tips. Can you explain the free lobster on first formal night at Rudy’s. We’re booked the first formal night. Is that just something they give the booked dinners that night or do you not need to book that night. Thanks.
So you can only get free lobster on the first formal night at the Italian restaurant. So yes, you want to book on the first formal night into the restaurant. Any other night at the Italian restaurant you will have to pay for the lobster.
@@Cruisinthrulife Yeah you can get free lobster on 7 night cruises on the first formal night, I think anything below 7 nights doesn’t get that. I think this also might apply to the Filet as well?

All cruise ships are different with respect to what you can and can not bring on board. Some cruise lines allow you to bring in a case of water, a 6 pack of soda, 2 bottles of wine - and some don’t allow you to bring ANY sodas. Check with your cruise line before packing! Carnival typically allows you to bring the aforementioned, but double check! and rules change all the time!
Nothing was mentioned about Family Feud. It’s advertised that the Mardi Gras ship has Family Feud night that you can audition for. Do they not have this?

No Charge on formal night or any night at the Italian Rest for us. But per our tip, that is the only night in the Italian Rest the Lobster is free! You have an upcharge any other night! I hope they didn't change the deal after our video! But we don't think so as we get a lot of thanks for the tips on Facebook.
Because the Mardi Gras is on her inaugural season there are a few restaurants that have been included at no charge. The Italian restaurant is one. Whereas on other ships you do have an up charge.
Give it try. My parents were all about Princess, celebrity, etc. We took them on a carnival and they had a fun time. We have done them all. Sometimes we are in the mood for fun and sometimes we are in the mood for elegant. Just like food, sometimes Tommy gets a USA big Steak and sometimes we do some nice Italian. I do wish they can include coffee, energy drinks and others that don’t have alcohol that a younger person wants to be included with bubbles. I love the milkshakes but got to get one of my parents to get it for me. Just frustrating to just get your parent out of what they are enjoying so there child can have a milkshake or coffee
As a Platinum guest as well as a shareholder/owner, I found a bit of your information incorrect. Easy example, there is no “form” to fill out to get your onboard credit for each sailing. While I think there should be a form, you have to initiate the contact via specific email.
Floyd, we always strive to get the information correct. This is what we were told from Carnival rep. But the process and procedures changes all the time on lots of items as you are aware. The main goal was to make people aware of the opportunity. Thanks for watching our channel.

Since then, I don't see reasons to take a cruise on this ship. The ship itself is 3* (overcrowded, narrow cabins, no proper promenade deck, no proper observation deck, no proper observation lounge, no proper spa, miserable pools...) The itineraries are boring: a Caribbean cruise MUST include 4 ports (and not less than 7 days). The Mardi Gras cruises offer only three ports. And the price is too high for the product of this quality.
What ship is good for the first time? The most stupid answer is: "it depends on what you prefer".
It has to be understood that cruising is a different world. So (one of) the first rules will be: leave your habits at home. The first-timer is a learner.
The best introduction to cruising is a cruise ship that offers a balance of comfort, personal space, good food, quality shows and a single most precious and unique quality of cruising - connection to the sea - all that on a good (full) itinerary for a reasonable price. The price may be little higher - it's OK.
Connection to the sea is the most precious quality... but cruise lines don't make money on that. So what they want is to turn you off the sea and connect you to the bar 24/7. They now build floating anthills to attract "new clientele" that has no idea of what a cruise ship should look like. It's easier to sell them less cruising for more money. Generally speaking, with rare exceptions, the newest ships are the worst throughout the industry.
FAR better options for the first-timers in November:
Nov 30 - Nieuw Statendam (7 days) - classic style cruising (with some omissions)
Nov 30 - Carnival Magic (8 days) - Carnival style on a better ship
Nov 9 - Freedom of the Seas (8 days) - it's only three ports but the ship is incomparably better than Mardi Gras
Nov 29, Nov 8 - Rotterdam (9 days) - classic style cruising (with some omissions)
Dec 1 - Caribbean Princess (8 days) - most romantic ship in this list
I believe you have just enough time to make changes.

We cruise a lot of different lines. They all have pros and cons. The Mardi Gras has a feel more like RC. It is a new ship with great design. You will be happy with it.
The nearest in size RC ships are Oasis Class ships. The Mardi Gras is a huge floting anthiil in comparison. We two upcoming cruise vacations in the nearest few month. I keep an eye on the MG itineraries and prices. The itineraries are among the worst, and the prices are too high for the floating block of narrow cabins like this. No comparison may be between the Oasis class and the Mardi Gras as far as show quality is concerned.

So you can only get free lobster on the first formal night at the Italian restaurant. So yes, you want to book on the first formal night into the restaurant. Any other night at the Italian restaurant you will have to pay for the lobster.

I have a question.... can I bring my own water,soda and juice boxes on a cruise or only buy the drinks on the ship?
All cruise ships are different with respect to what you can and can not bring on board. Some cruise lines allow you to bring in a case of water, a 6 pack of soda, 2 bottles of wine - and some don’t allow you to bring ANY sodas. Check with your cruise line before packing! Carnival typically allows you to bring the aforementioned, but double check! and rules change all the time!
Nothing was mentioned about Family Feud. It’s advertised that the Mardi Gras ship has Family Feud night that you can audition for. Do they not have this?

But did you have to pay the $15 per person normal charge at the Italian Restaurant on Formal night and then they included Lobster ?
No Charge on formal night or any night at the Italian Rest for us. But per our tip, that is the only night in the Italian Rest the Lobster is free! You have an upcharge any other night! I hope they didn't change the deal after our video! But we don't think so as we get a lot of thanks for the tips on Facebook.
Because the Mardi Gras is on her inaugural season there are a few restaurants that have been included at no charge. The Italian restaurant is one. Whereas on other ships you do have an up charge.

Give it try. My parents were all about Princess, celebrity, etc. We took them on a carnival and they had a fun time. We have done them all. Sometimes we are in the mood for fun and sometimes we are in the mood for elegant. Just like food, sometimes Tommy gets a USA big Steak and sometimes we do some nice Italian. Easy example, there is no “form” to fill out to get your onboard credit for each sailing. While I think there should be a form, you have to initiate the contact via specific email.
