With the upcoming release of Star Wars Outlaws and Space Marine 2, two games that’ll most likely hold my attention for some time i’ve been in the mood to play a game with the mates, thats just mindless fun, where i can have a drink or two, make random movie and song references and just switch my brain off
And For a little while now i’d seen and kept my eye on Hypercharged Unboxed - a indie game where you play as action figures, and it looked like Toy Story and Small Soldiers, as a shooter - and after seeing some gameplay footage and social media adds i decided to pull the plastic trigger and give it a crack, and i gotta say - it’s pretty damn fun

This is honestly almost the kind of game I always wanted. I have always had a strange obsession with this niche of toys in a world that is just ours through their lens. But it’s still a bit far from the game I have been wanting nearly all my life. I get that only six people made this game so I do not hold it back on its ambition whatsoever I know that they probably had to be small in scope. But I still want a game that is more of an open ended exploration game where levels arnt just a little room but maybe you can just explore an entire map.
Maybe sounds strange but I remember a while back when Minecraft still used to do those paid map packs on Xbox they made a toy story one, and it was this impressive huge map where you where toy sized in the world of Toy Story. It started in Andy’s house but you could venture out and there were other houses, the antique shop, the fair, the dump, and all of it so mundane and simple in the structure of an everyday town but places so daunting and interesting when explored from this shrieked down perspective.
I’m still waiting for a game like that. A game that will give this toy to life genere a full exploitable adventure. Something a bit more than just a cute gimmick. I’d make it myself if I could but I hope someone one day makes something like that.
