Those Batman fans that criticize the Nolan trilogy are assholes who just complain that it's not Keaton or Kevin Conroy. I loved the Dark Knight trilogy and I didn't let the voice get in the way of the amazing stories the movies had. I'm a huge batman fan and I loved the trilogy. Bale was the best Batman and Bruce Wayne and Heath was the best Joker. Only reason people praise Keaton is for nostalgic reasons. He was okay.

Metal Gear Rising? OK it wasn't as good as most of the main series games, but its got massive backlash with the change in style. Once played we got a god like soundtrack, fun/diverse combat, funny dialogue, simple story compared with the main series and arguably the best final boss of all time

South Park: Stick of Truth deserved a spot on the list. There was no hope for that game and it was constantly delayed, but that was the most fun I've had playing a game in awhile. Completely agree with Arkham Asylum at number 1, fantastic series, even if Knight was a bit of a misstep in my personal opinion

Cayde RDR2 is a masterpiece no doubt however this list is for games that “defied” expectations... those were always high for red dead.. and it fulfilled.

I think that trying to turn CoD into something that isn't CoD, reskin after reskin, is a step in the right direction, but if they don't do it fast enough then they'll lose too much money and fail as a company.

I totally agree with the Arkham Asylum. Rocksteady knew their fans, they knew what people wanted from a Batman game. Those Batman games had a good storyline, combat, gothic environment, characters. But now WB Montreal is just getting one step backwards with games like Gotham knights.
Hmm...would Bioshock Infinite count as one? I seem to recall people were a bit turned off at the change in environment from Rapture to Columbia and the thought that it was going to a long escort mission with Elizabeth and such.

All of these video game videos on TH-cam take me back to when I was a kid. I mostly had "video game based off of the movie" games. I was so lame back then; and at that time it was 20 years after the video game crash of 83. I never got any respect from the nerds at school and those types of games really had a bad rap with other gamers. It got better once I started playing Resident Evil and Halo. Heck, my little brother had more time with the consoles and I played on the PC and the handhelds more. I progressed farther on Halo 3 than my little brother without rage-quitting . Then I moved on to Sims and Mortal Kombat. My self confidence increased. Let me tell you about Shrek Super Slam. That was good.
Spec Ops: The Line turned out to be one the best games I've played. It's also one of the hardes. Not in gameplay. But in storyline, hard choices and disturbing twists. The game has several endings none from bad to very bad. It took balls to come up with this game as well as giving it the go ahead. Mafia III had a similar vibe. In Lincoln's story you hear all the names he's called by whites and city blacks believing they're better than Clay. You deal with klan like groups, blacks being kidnapped and even sold. What's somewhat alleviating is the brutal way in which deals with his vengeance. Another thing is Clay was a specialist in Vietnam and his old handler shows up after an unexpected start to get intel on the people he's after. This also has several endings. One of which is the most mindblowing, out of left and WTF moments in my gaming like. So Mafia III is a hard edge story that was hard to deal with and then Spec Ops comes along and makes Lincoln's story a cakewalk. Both games are WELL worth playing.

I totally agree that Arkham Asylum is number 1. I bought it thinking it was just another Batman game or whatever but when i played it, it was amazing. Phenomenal game and the sequel was even better.

Metroid Prime series was amazing. People were so worried because the side scrolling was so established in the prior gameplay. But then it came out. I got lost in that game, was like being in space. Was so addictive and satisfying. The graphics, the music, the leveling up. Masterpiece. I think Other M is very underrated, and I also think they kinda could utilize this franchise more these days.

Ghostbusters The Video Game. Despite its technical issues on the PC, the storyline was surprisingly amazing. It's what Ghostbusters 2 should have been.

***** Yeah, the Dana thing was weird. They mentioned her, but didn't touch on what was going on with her character, or Oscar, for that matter. I think the voice performances were great from everyone except Bill Murray. Even Murray's brother was great. Peck's voice was a little eh, but since he was a side character I could overlook it pretty easily. But I was honestly not surprised about Bill Murray. He's the primary reason the franchise died in the 80's. I thought maybe they would get the voice actor from The Real Ghosbusters cartoon, because I didn't see Bill working with the franchise again. But despite those couple of problems, it was an awesome direct continuation from the first movie, I thought. Though the unused script of the Ghostbusters going to Hell that Akroyd mentioned on at least one occasion would have been pretty fun too.

It's really hard to say if Dan himself had an issue with Bill. That's more my take. In the interviews when Dan is asked about Ghosbusters, and he talks about Bill, he really beats around the bush. You get the feeling that he had problems with what was going on, but he doesn't want to just throw Bill under the bus. He uses words like "stresses," "complications," etc., but he's always really quick to say that Bill's a good guy in the same breath.

I think that trying to turn CoD into something that isn't CoD, reskin after reskin, is a step in the right direction, but if they don't do it fast enough then they'll lose too much money and fail as a company.
+clyax113 I don't think that's a good idea, if you want to make a new game that "isn't CoD" then make a new series, don't change CoD, as fans will be even more pissed then they are now. We WANT a "reskin", just like bf fans like reskins, Mario fans like reskins, etc...

I totally agree with the Arkham Asylum. Rocksteady knew their fans, they knew what people wanted from a Batman game. Those Batman games had a good storyline, combat, gothic environment, characters. But now WB Montreal is just getting one step backwards with games like Gotham knights.
I actually prefer the cell shaded Zelda style over the more realistic approach any day
Hmm...would Bioshock Infinite count as one? I seem to recall people were a bit turned off at the change in environment from Rapture to Columbia and the thought that it was going to a long escort mission with Elizabeth and such.
I thought people actually liked the change of scenery, plus it was developed by Irrational again, unlike BioShock 2.

All of these video game videos on TH-cam take me back to when I was a kid. I mostly had "video game based off of the movie" games. I was so lame back then; and at that time it was 20 years after the video game crash of 83. I never got any respect from the nerds at school and those types of games really had a bad rap with other gamers. It got better once I started playing Resident Evil and Halo. Heck, my little brother had more time with the consoles and I played on the PC and the handhelds more. I progressed farther on Halo 3 than my little brother without rage-quitting . Then I moved on to Sims and Mortal Kombat. My self confidence increased.
Let me tell you about Shrek Super Slam. That was good.

Spec Ops: The Line turned out to be one the best games I've played. It's also one of the hardes. Not in gameplay. But in storyline, hard choices and disturbing twists. The game has several endings none from bad to very bad. It took balls to come up with this game as well as giving it the go ahead. Mafia III had a similar vibe. In Lincoln's story you hear all the names he's called by whites and city blacks believing they're better than Clay. You deal with klan like groups, blacks being kidnapped and even sold. What's somewhat alleviating is the brutal way in which deals with his vengeance. Another thing is Clay was a specialist in Vietnam and his old handler shows up after an unexpected start to get intel on the people he's after. This also has several endings. One of which is the most mindblowing, out of left and WTF moments in my gaming like. So Mafia III is a hard edge story that was hard to deal with and then Spec Ops comes along and makes Lincoln's story a cakewalk. Both games are WELL worth playing.
For me, Alien Isolation was 2014's GOTY.

Arkham asylum: one of the best game ever, it is so optimized, i can run it max setting on my 2010 HP laptop, when i can barely run gta 4 low setting.

I totally agree that Arkham Asylum is number 1. I bought it thinking it was just another Batman game or whatever but when i played it, it was amazing. Phenomenal game and the sequel was even better.

2002 was a good year.
Metroid Prime series was amazing. People were so worried because the side scrolling was so established in the prior gameplay. But then it came out. I got lost in that game, was like being in space. Was so addictive and satisfying. The graphics, the music, the leveling up. Masterpiece. I think Other M is very underrated, and I also think they kinda could utilize this franchise more these days.

Arkham Asylum really did shatter expectations, and it was even more amazing that Arkham City was able to top it and raise the bar for what superhero video games should be.

Ghostbusters The Video Game. Despite its technical issues on the PC, the storyline was surprisingly amazing. It's what Ghostbusters 2 should have been.

***** Yeah, the Dana thing was weird. They mentioned her, but didn't touch on what was going on with her character, or Oscar, for that matter. I think the voice performances were great from everyone except Bill Murray. Even Murray's brother was great. Peck's voice was a little eh, but since he was a side character I could overlook it pretty easily. But I was honestly not surprised about Bill Murray. He's the primary reason the franchise died in the 80's. I thought maybe they would get the voice actor from The Real Ghosbusters cartoon, because I didn't see Bill working with the franchise again.
But despite those couple of problems, it was an awesome direct continuation from the first movie, I thought. Though the unused script of the Ghostbusters going to Hell that Akroyd mentioned on at least one occasion would have been pretty fun too.

It's really hard to say if Dan himself had an issue with Bill. That's more my take. In the interviews when Dan is asked about Ghosbusters, and he talks about Bill, he really beats around the bush. You get the feeling that he had problems with what was going on, but he doesn't want to just throw Bill under the bus. He uses words like "stresses," "complications," etc., but he's always really quick to say that Bill's a good guy in the same breath.
