I highly recommend taking note of the name of any staff that gives you good service, then leaving a positive review for them afterwards where you specify who it was. This is great for upper management to acknowledge the hard work of their staff. And for the person you name, it really really makes their day and costs us no money to do it :) And this is not just for cabin crew, but for any type of person working in the service industry (eg. waiters)

It's easy for the paying public to forget that the primary role of cabin crew is for the safety of passengers. Customer service and comfort are secondary. Don't demand too much and don't feel too entitled when you next fly with any airline.

When they are charging more than $10,000 for tickets to the US, everyone paying that amount should feel entitled. They normally charge higher for the same destination compared to others.

Not only on their job..few years back as a grab driver,I had several encounters fetching SQ crews. First one, when reached the arrival hall, the lady crew called me sir and passed me a plastic bag,she helped me pick up all the dirty rubbish previous passengers dumped,I was shocked but very thankful. Second, fetching a lady crew from terminal 2, and once she knew she going to woodlands, she sat in front even her colleagues sharing the ride asked her to sit with him,she told me it’s a long journey, afraid I am bored just to chat with me. Third, upon reaching the lady crew flat,it was minor drizzling,I went down to help her carry her luggage’s,she told me don’t…as she can shower straightaway when she reached home while I still need to drive…a few more all good too many to mention

Finally we get to see an insight training of Singapore Airlines I mean I have no intention to be an air steward coz obviously I'm too short but who else can agree that whenever we see those air stewards or stewardess walking in their uniform while dragging their small luggage with them at the airport to head for their next flight always seemed kinda cool. Maybe bcoz it's not easy to be selected to be an air stewardess or steward.

I am someone who doesn't like to take the airplane... But ironically i have been living in 4 different countries throughout my life so far and that requires me to take airplane to visit my home country. I have taken both short and long flight, and have tried many different airlines companies. But only Singapore Airlines honestly is the one i always pick. It made me feel safe and comfortable. It's the accumulation of everything that made me choose Singapore Airlines as my priority - Cabin crew is friendly, welcoming, patient and comforting; in-flight entertainment is very good; seat is comfortable and have ample space, plane is clean.. basically everything is good and combined together makes it great.. so yeah definitely will keep on choosing Singapore Airlines.. yes it is expensive compared to other airlines, but safety and comfort is my priority when travelling so i am willing to pay ❤

The best airline for service, I was flying premium economy a few months ago and my pre ordered meal hadn’t made it the plane. I didn’t make a fuss because it wasn’t a huge deal but a few moments after meal service I was given 100SPD credit to spend on on board duty free. Now that’s service!

I believe SQ could offer customized classes to peers as a source of additional revenue. LCC Airlines like Ryanair, Vueling and Easyjet or even some fully fledged ones could potentially send their crews to the SIA academy. Upon returning home, they could advertise that their crews have received SQ-standard training on their websites.

We treat them exclusively because the West brought lots of economical growth and prosperity to Asia in the past, and back then they used to have a very liberal and forward-thinking mindset which asians lacked so it was seen as the better way to be. If one outshines their colleagues by providing excellent guest experience in SG hotels, they would be frowned upon by their colleagues 😭
I forgot to mention, many F&B Managers especially those in Room Service are incompitent in service to start of with, they may be good in logistics but tbeir general knowledge to give decent IRD services is more like a glorified version of Grab Food 😭

I doubt the company would like to invest/pay more to train their hotel front desk staff just to serve customers that would only be engaged for less than 30mins at the reception & off to their rooms straightaway. Which would be the same as well for Room Service. From the company’s perspective, they would rather place the budget into recruiting more new hires & maintenance of amenities. We all know that there’s limitation to the load one staff could provide, if one staff is down, they’ll need backup.
As compared to flight crew, they must have the knowledge of safety procedures, get trained in first aid & CPR,know what meals are going to be served etc. and take care of at least 50 passengers who are all within close proximity one-by-one during the flight. Moreover, their contract duration may be longer than what a hotel offers.

This reminds me of my good old days as an SIA crew. It's a shame about the masking which is a requirement. Why can't they provide a kebaya designed mask of a lighter colour to go with the kebaya?. The white mask ruins the reputation of the iconic Singapore Girl.

Are they required to pass any language proficiency testing in languages other than English: Chinese, Malay, Hindi, etc?

Nope, if you see on their website, it’s not a requirement to be proficient in a second language. But of course, it’ll be an added advantage if one is proficient in both.

As local, use to feel extremely proud especially during the timing 1980 to 1990 where majority are true blue rooted born Singaporean girl and our own authenticity and at that time even during national day, these singapore girl will appear in parade . Gradually nowadays a lot of non sg. When this industry become so competitive with pricing and value, the root essence of customer service quality sometimes does not maintain a consistency in economic class maybe unless is first or business class I cannot afford until today..

SIA like other industries, can't get all Singaporean staff since many years ago. People getting reacher, prefer to be served to serving people. Like my friend, tried so hard to get in. After some times, always report MC when didn't feel like flying, leave the airline with poor attendance.

Its perfectly normal for airlines to hire crew from different nationalities. In fact Singapore Airlines is more strict in the sense that we only hire Asians, as we are an asian airline. There is no rule that states that all crew have to be Singaporeans. It is a company after all and if it required manpower, it will need to source them out if there isnt enought locals applying. Dont even get me started on how our own Singaporeans look down on us as toilet cleaners or waiters....
As for the other nationalities, they are hired because we fly internationally and they are required to work as translators or assist the local crew when we land in those stations. EG. Indian and Chinese crew make announcements in their language onboard and also help with the immigration when we arrive at station, similarly for Japanese or korean crew. They are required to help with translations and make announcements.
