I got to witness several deals second-hand from a friend who was a global brand marketing lead for IWC back in 2005-2011 or so. I recall being at The Beverly Hills Hotel in late 2007 or early 2008 drinking Remy Louis XIII the eve before my friend was meeting with team producing “Wall Street 2 Money Never Sleeps” at Fox Plaza in Century City (aka Nakatomi Plaza to you Die Hard fans) - they get Shia LaBeouf and Michael Douglas to wear watches in the film, plus some other placements. He also did a number of deals with cast of “Grey’s Anatomy”. I recall that idea came from them learning actor Eric Dane was a real IWC fan and was excited to buy his first IWC - they ended up gifting him his first watch. Eric’s wife (Rebecca Gayheart) told me at a party that the first night he had that watch (which I think was a Pilots Double Chrono) he couldn’t sleep, he kept turning in his bedside light to look at it. Cool when the celebrity is really a fan of the brand before the deal….
Have to agree about the Tiffany Blue dial on the Patek (or any other watch). Just saying, this is due to personal taste so don't feel threatened if you like the color. I love blue dials, but there is just something about Tiffany Blue that I've never liked to see on anything. I'm wondering how some of these trendy colors will hold up over the years to come.

Interesting thoughts on the brand image of Breitling. The Chrono Avenger Titanium is a monster but wears surprising well. It's rugged and functional. Don't care about Blood Diamonds or DiCaprio, but the E13360 is a keeper. That said, the jury is still out on Breitling's current direction(s). A word about product placements. It's highly unlikely that DiCaprio's agreement with TAG requires that he wears the watch in his movies. More likely that TAG enter into separate agreements with the studio for the placement in the films. Think Keanu Reeves and Carl Bucherer and that annoying and disruptive product placement in John Wick 3. My understanding is the Tiffany Nautilus was distributed to Tiffany boutiques in New York, Beverly Hills and perhaps London(?). I could be wrong, but Tiffany was responsible for distributing almost all of the watches, not Patek. Regardless, it's an ugly watch and it's even more undesirable by the company it's keeping. One point about LeBron: the proportions on his wrist makes it look like a 34 mm watch on an average dude. Is this an argument in favor of the Explorer in 36 mm? Speaking of Tiffany watches, I do not share the preference for unpolished Oysterquartz watches. I've seen them returned from Rolex service and they return in stunning condition and quite beautiful. But everyone has their own tastes, and I get the whole originality thing. I just don't default to it and know other collectors who don't either.

I totally disagree with your theory about that scene in the wolf of Wall Street; watch that scene again and as the watch is flying through the air in slow motion you can clearly hear a ticking sound- making it obvious that it’s a quartz watch/ not supposed to be a Rolex. If they were just trying to trick the audience whilst still allowing him to wear a tag heuer, they wouldn’t have intentionally added that sound.
Most people don't care about watches, especially mechanical watches. In fact, most people associate watches with a tick sound. Remember Pink Floyd's Time. The tick sound is associated with watch/passage of time. So it makes sense to have that sound even if the watch is mechanical because of the inherent association of the sound with a watch.
I don't like Rolex. They are watches for Wall Street douchebags who drive Range Rovers. There is, however, a custom Rolex that makes me swoon, the Artisans de Genéve Honey Green Daytona.
