Hi TGV, As a follow up to this video and 3 years later, I finally was fortunate enough to acquire this same beautiful watch. Thank you for the introduction that led me to it. Best regards, John
Since I'm early, there's a bigger chance you'll see my comment, so I just want to tell you how much I love your videos, and thank you for being an amazing human, you literally make my days.
Sir Martin Campbell reference at 5.10 made me chuckle 😆 Keep up the great work TGV, very informative and engaging videos. Your passion and enthusiasm for Horology is infectious 👍
I love this video. I had no idea that the pushers represented the pistons of an engine or the land speed racer who wore the oyster chronograph from the 1924-1935. Everything about the video including the music, camera shots, and your enthusiasm is great. As a huge racing enthusiast, I have to immediately point out that most of the racing photos you include in your video are from NASCAR and the Daytona 500, which have no connection to the Rolex Daytona. The Daytona is named for the 24 Hours of Daytona Endurance race that has an amazingly rich history of Prototypes from Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Ford, etc... the only thing that can make your video even better would be to showcase the cars and drivers from that 1960s bygone era which gave the watch its popularity.
Superb work TGV! Your body of work is quickly becoming an encyclopedic reference to the main-stays of the watch world. I must also congratulate you on your viewership numbers - TH-cam have now seen fit to insert the first ‘interim advert’ that I recall. Top form Sir, top form
Top class video. I had a client that supplied material to a race winning car at 24hr Daytona. She told me team members sponsors and suppliers have the opportunity to take part in the victory by buying The Rolex Daytona at discount. With engraving 24hr Daytona winner on back case. She was kind enough to let me try it on because she knew how much of a watch enthusiast I am. Surprisingly very light watch In weight. Great video TGV 💪🏼
I am very lucky to own a black Aph dial bought when prices where below the 20k. My favourite watch along with the new Kermit and my 1680 red line submariner. Great video!
Ah, watches! You can despise a watch for years, try it once and fall in love. Really is a lesson one should take to heart for one's life outside of this beautiful hobby. Cheers!
Fantastic video!!! Of all the video's you have produced, this has been by far my favourite. I knew only a little of the Daytona's history, however you told it in such a captivating way. I enjoyed every second. Thank you
never forget as nice as time pieces like this one, a man makes the watch, not the watch the man, to me a watch should almost be an extension of you, this piece is gorgeous.
Great video, and that watch looks in fantastic condition, I would defo pull the trigger on it! I have two 116520 watches, one white dial, one black dial, both the last year they made this model, 2015/2016. They both also have the blue luminous markers, which was only available for the last two years of its production run, they also both have the “APH” dial. I also have a 2023 116500 with a white “panda” dial, but I prefer the older models, i think they’re more versatile with the steel bezel! Once again, great video! 👍
the easiest way to differentiate 16520 n 116520 is to see the register position at 9 n 3 o clock. 16520 is lined up perfectly symmetrical, whereas 116520 is slightly above. That is why some pple prefer the balance of the 16520. Of course, like what u said , the register for time is diff as well.
I have a white face Daytona oyster as well. My grandfather has a blue face and my cousin has a black face. My grandfather purchased all 3 from 2000 to 2005. I love the watch I don’t daily it due to my work, but I do wear it at least weekly. Love the watch!
Who said we cant travel in time? A video like this is a sight for sore eyes... Congratulations TGV on such a a GREAT research, its not easy make a video with this level of quality.
Hi TGV So glad you mentioned the Speedmasters legacy as a true racing chronograph. It’s in another league and price layer off cause, but no less legendary... I wouldn’t dare to try this Daytona on, I would probably fall in love on the spot - and ruin my economy saving for one. Cause I know what you mean when you say that handling a watch that you’ve not especially been keen on can make you want it beyond reason. The opposite can happen too, by the way. I once bought one that I was pretty sure was a watch for me...but once on the wrist I went: “Naaah, not really”. Luckily it was a fairly inexpensive vintage watch, and I even sold it with a small profit. So here it comes, watchlovers: ALLWAYS TRY THE WATCH ON - if you dare to😂 This Daytona is gorgeous. But at the end of the day I would prefer a classic “reversed Panda” model. That is, if someone would give one to me... Nice vid mate, keep up the good work👍
So ruddy bloody true about what you say about it working both ways. So glad you mentioned this. Thank you Kjeld, I always appreciate your insightful comment, I wish youtube would allow me to prioritize the most valuable and sharpest commentators, I would have you always at the top! Onwards and upwards, Best regards, TGV
I own the exact same reference he wears in this video and it is a truly amazing piece of engineering. I wear it almost every day. I also own a 2021 no date submariner which is a great watch but I just can't stand to see the Daytona in the winder without the urge to put it on.
IMO, the stainless steel Daytona (pre-Ceramic) is a damn classic. The model in this video is my favourite and after getting my Reverso within a few years I hope, this Daytona will be my grail then. You simply can't find a chronograph with better proportions than a Daytona and matches its ability to be dressed down or up. There are no surroundings or outfit where the Daytona looks out of place; ok, you might not see someone diving with it, but it can certainly handle a day at the beach or snorkeling.
I bought my first watch today, an Oris Aquis Blue as a celebration for my exam. Thank you TGV for your channel and making my decision easier as for the choise of my watch and now I feel like a part of the watch community! Your content is marvelous and thank you again for the inspiration! Might get a Tudor next for my 30 birthday (thanks to you again)...
Damn. I hate you ! Ha ha. I really want the blue Aquis myself, or a Longines Hydro Conquest in grey. Enjoy it my friend. The Aquis is a fine looking watch.
Sublime video as usual, superb history and visuals. Obviously a gorgeous watch but I can't help thinking there are so many other watches out there. But like any other watch if you love it, you love it! Enjoy ⌚
Pure class as always TGV. I had a former supplier bet me that I wouldn't do a million dollars in sales with the products his company offered. . He bet me a Rolex. I chose this Daytona. I ended up doing it 3 times, three years in a row....He never offered up the Rolex. Pure no class.
We understand each other :) I also prefer brushed center links and brushed top of the lugs. Hopefully Rolex brings this detail back to their Datejust models in the future. Great Review TGV! I really enjoyed the brief Daytona history. Greetings, Sebastian
Awesome!..will eventually purchase an 18k Daytona. Saving up at the moment. Looking dapper brother... very interesting upload from start to finish. I quite enjoyed it. What's the aquarium software on the tube?. Looks amazing. I want that. Where to purchase. Keep Shining mate!!...Cheers!😎🤙
Superb edition of the cosmograph Daytona you have there!👏🏻👏🏻 I’m leaning to the everose on a oyster flex strap! I’m probably not alone when I name it to be my ultimate grailwatch! Perhaps in full everose performance is totally okay as well!👏🏻😉 Thanks TGV for a great review!👌🏻😍
The everose gold with the oyster flex strap is indeed ALSO a BOMB watch! That's my next acquisition actually. The white dial is more of a "grail watch" and in my opinion is a step above the everose gold simply because it is more versatile......definitely with a t shirt and jeans but can still pass as a formal watch to be worn with a suit!!!!
The Daytona is absolutely a wonderful watch. But when I think of the "greatest racing watch", looking at today's models it is imho a bit too luxurious. A Heuer Monaco "Steve Mcqueen" for example is a little more authentic... but that is just my humble opinion.
Great video again great history and information. Would you consider according to your elegant style leather straps? Bracelets are nice too but somehow I feel that would look great for your watches like Daytona.
Nice video as always. However the listing shows a different and earlier 116520 as there is no engraving in the rehaut and it has the older style clasp.
I love your videos. Very well done! What a beautiful watch, definitely a must! I especially love the colour scheme. White dial on steel 👍😎I own a 1957 edition Speedmaster 42MM (2007 - 3313 Caliber) with a clear case back, black and grey dial and I absolutely love it. Great value in Omega
Honestly, I can't imagine reading the sub dials on the 6239 37mm while driving a race car. Even with perfect vision, the sub dials are quite small. I own the 6239 homage with 37mm case and white sub dials with black hands, and it requires a steady moment to read the elapsed time. It's quite legible but too small to read from a moving, vibrating steering wheel. The big eye Speedmaster Racing is waaay easier to read. All the same, I love my 6239.
Wear a Tudor Prince Chrono for a while, then decide boss. I had one for 10 years, always love the the underdog, and in my experience more people assume its a Tudor when they see one anyway because they dont recognize the dial placement difference. ;) Love your channel!
LOVE the Tiger, I owned one too. Cracking watch. I know exactly how you feel about the underdog. Thank you Chris for the kind words about the channel, always appreciated. Onwards and upwards! Best regards, TGV
I’ve always been interested in watches especially chronographs with their pushers and sub-dials. My father had a gold Girard-Perregaux chronograph which is in the possession of my brother. Before I knew about Rolex I received a Wakmann day-date chronograph which uses a Valjouix movement which I believe Rolex used at one time. Later I read an article titled “Why I didn’t buy a Rolex Daytona” which lead me to Zenith El Primero which I bought out of the UK as the make wasn’t being sold in the USA due to a conflict with a TV! Of course we al know what Paul Newman’s Daytona sold for but what’s interesting is what the Wakmann and the zenith are worth with similar movements!
Awesome video. Wether you're into Rolex or not, one can not ignore the amazing "do it all" sports watches Rolex has made throughout the years. I can only dream of a black dial 16520 from 1988 as a birth year watch. Maybe some day... Looking forward to the next one. Regards, Koen
Nice intro ! Looks like the cars are going backwards though lol. I think this watch, the Omega SpeedMaster, and Tag Heuer Monaco are my holy Trinity of racing watches.
"Days of Thunder" is far from being the best written racing movie, yet still remarkable for the photography and capturing of racing atmosphere. Perfect follow-up video for the iconic Daytona: Affordable microbrand alternative...Lorier Gemini. ;-)
So true about "Days of Thunder". I have to say, I really enjoy most of the late Tony Scott's movies. LOVE the idea of the Gemini, it looks super, lets see how it goes ;-) Thank you Klaus, Best regards, TGV
Another affordable option is the Parnis Daytona homage. One of my friends has one and it's fantastic sporting a sapphire glass, great metal bracelet, and with the Seiko VK movement
Great video as always TGV! Daytonas were always my grail watch. I should have bought them back in the 80s when they were cheap-LOL. I now have a complete set in steel 116520 in white and black dial and the newer 116500s ceramic in white and black dial. Oddly, while the 116500 prices have soared to over $20k I prefer the 6520s they actually look "larger" to me than the 6500s of course still being the same size. Funny, I have a few friends that wanted Daytonas, but they are bigger guys than me and they simply look small. While I think 44mm is too large, I think a Daytona in 42mm may be a good play for Rolex. But, I couldn't really care less with the exception of getting a blinged out Rainbow in white gold or platinum, I'm done with Daytonas. I can barely see the subdials anyway- 🤓
Great video with great shots and backgrounds to compliment a fine timepiece. I prefer the panda versions for legibility but the all white and steel has a certain understated elegance. A chronograph that is not afraid of deep water definitely makes the navitimer and speed master a little lacking in functionality but not style as I find them more tool and function in dial design. Breguet and IWC are also in contention for chronograph classics. Thanks TGV!
Love your Page. Please do a video on the new Alpinist Release in Jan 2020. Model Numbers SBDC091 GREEN DIAL, SBDC087 BLACK DIAL, SBDC089 WHITE DIAL, SBDC093 CHAMPAGNE DIAL. Thank You!
Thank you KG, I deeply appreciate that and I have to say, I love it here! You are so right, they are awesome, the best in the business, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't so. Best regards, TGV

Yet another great video TGV....I would like to request more Seiko videos and less Rolex videos...leave the crown videos to all the wannabe Kings out there. Seiko is by far the number one watch brand in the world without being pretentious. They just work their magic quietly without having to create a persona of something there not. And that is to me the most appealing and most impactful stealth statement that any watch Company may strive to achieve. Even the Rolex crown needs to bow down to Seiko halo the watch God of all watches!
This was a very well done video. I would love to have a modern Daytona. But lets be honest they hardly make and the demand is so high you will wait forever from an AD unless you VIP. Also the premium for 20 to 25K makes it a horrible investment. It makes no sense to get one when I can get a speedy for a couple of grand.
I think this particular model of Daytona with the steel tachometer bezel (rather than ceramic) and white dial is the model Mike Brewer (of Wheeler Dealer fame) often wares on his shows.
Another gorgeous opening, this well-timed given the Daytona 500 that ended two days ago. This watch is much better than the beach. But maybe not the race.
Your historical perspectives just get better and better. Each seems more insightful and polished than the last. Paul Newman - actor, driver, more importantly an incredible human being. Well done TGV.

Thank You!

TGV what do you think of the ceramic dial versions?
I'd just like to say I love your channel. Stumbled across it when I was researching a wedding/40th birthday watch. Finally bought a Tissot Couturier Chronograph after taking your watch advice on board and I love it. I appreciate your wide range of priced timepieces you review as well as the history. I've now got my first Swiss watch and I'm a very happy boy! Horology! 😊
That is so fantastic to hear!!!!
Thank you for sharing that, it inspires me no end.
Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey, cracking choice btw, LOVE Tissot,
Best regards,
TGV
Those pre daytona are perfect!
Thank you for another great video!
Any opinion of the Bulova Computron? The original or the rereleased one?
I dont like Daytona, but I definitely like you video!
Great fuel burn intro, love it!
The 6238 is my absolute grail.
A stainless steel Daytona? I didn't know you reviewed unicorns.
I love your refined sartorial choices. Very dapper as always.
I think this particular model of Daytona with the steel tachometer bezel (rather than ceramic) and white dial is the model Mike Brewer (of Wheeler Dealer fame) often wares on his shows.
I don’t like the Daytona, the sub-dials don’t look like they are serious about their function.
Great video
Link for the black leather gloves in the video??
I will find them shortly and add them to my amazon store (link in the description)
BRB!
Thank you Tony,
Best regards,
TGV
I'm on the "waiting list" I'll let you know when I got it.
Another gorgeous opening, this well-timed given the Daytona 500 that ended two days ago. This watch is much better than the beach. But maybe not the race.
When they making a day date version of a Daytona?
