I used to work next door to Mark. His brother Matt has that crazy Beams motor early 70s celica. Matt is a wizard behind the wheel and Mark is a wizard with wiring. Both are top notch guys.
I think the hardest part about an engine swap is dealing with the wiring. No really my forte, so a plug and play wiring harness solution is really nice.
That shifter boot looks amazing in there, and you did an awesome job just trimming enough for it not to lock like a hack job. Wrapping it black would look a lot better in my opinion. Have a black M3 personal car and I’m debating about doing this swap. Awesome street built guys!
Definitely my favorite project you guys have done or anyone is doing right now. Never been a BMW guy but this car will be just about perfect. Great work and keep it up.
I always say it, but I have to keep saying it. Best car channel on youtube, so far ahead of all the flexers. You guys do great work both with the cars and the videos.
There is a new turbo spooling technology where compressed air is shot against the turbine to fast spool the turbo. A micro switch on the throttle or a pid in the ecu opens a valve when boost is low and the loud pedal has been depressed . An existing turbo can be modified with this technology as it only requires a small hole be drilled and taped in the right place so the jet of air can spin the blades. It usually goes on the exhaust side to help ignite unburnt gas further spooling the turbo.
You can easily get a brushed aluminum looking vinyl that'll match your dash trim. Keep it looking more OEM! Love the project guys super excited to see it hit the dyno!!
my personal favorite pedal mod is just take off the OE rubber pads and then stick on some skateboard grip tape. great feel and super cheap and easy to replace when it wears out.
This car makes me want to sell my C5Z and ls swap an e46 m3 realll bad like 2020 visions bad. Great job so far it's going to be awesome. Happy new year guys!
Silver trim. I know black seems like the obvious choice because of all the neighboring color, but a consistently applied palette always looks better in the end.
If you want to paint the Shifter-Panel thingy toss it in a bucket with nailpolish remover, the softtouch should just peel right of! way easyier that trying to sand that stuff
I have been using 3M Safety Walk tape on the stock pedals for years. It has been in my Z33 for over 40k miles. Still hasn't worn out and if it does I can just cut another piece off my roll. It's cheap, light, and looks legit.
For the centre console trim, E-Tech XHT VHT silver exhaust paint is an extremely close match for colour and finish to the silver used for the rest of the BMW silver trim you’ve got 👍
As a Canadian most people here definitely say suh-lee-cuh. My dad used to own one and he has always said sell-i-cuh which I always thought to be wrong haha
I was gonna say with the silver shifter a silver accent might pop a little but if you're swapping it out definitely go all black. Happy New Years from Aussieland.
When you're done woth the build, could you make like a text document with most or all of the parts used in this build. It would make the swap much easier for people in the future looking to do this conversion.
Happy New Year from New Zealand. Schroth Rallye 4 asm would have been a better belt option, 4 Point harness with belt clip, but retains anti submarine breakaway design of the Tekate harness.
Love how the shifter setup turned out! Looks awesome! Could you guys elaborate on how you connected it to the former SMG transmission? I'd love to see how that conversion plays out.
Looking pretty sick. And yes it would be nice to be able to order custom colors for coils bc if you're trying to go with a theme and you have the bright red sticking out like a sore thumb....lol.
Who's your link tuner? Mark makes really nice harnesses and adapters for making the link ecu's plug and play. I install link ecu's all the time at work. Jason is our link tuner and he is the president of link for North and South America.
OMG, thats the exact reason I haven't done the R8 coil pack upgrade to my car! Because it's RED! BLEH. Need more BLUUEEEE! Was happy to wake up to a new vid before 2020!
As far as your matchy-matchy concerns go, some Motorsports stuff just comes in the color that the manufacturer is known for; would you want Ohlins in any other color? Or KW ? I think the red coil packs look very cool. All of this is just so cool! Wondering what the total investment in the project is going to be, if you would’ve had to pay for all those sexy parts?
@Power 2 Weight Then why are you even on youtube. Even though you prefer doing something yourself doesn't mean what someone is broadcasting is garbage.. They are doing very good with there builds. I don't understand your logic quite honestly.
When you say that the Link ECU has CAN integration for the e46, does that include Dash, Cruise Control, and steering wheel buttons? The lack of CAN support is a limiting factor for me as my car is still a street car.
sounds like the ignition system is a Lost Spark type system, which is what comes stock on Mazda Miatas, although the older ones of course are not coil-on-plug.
@@panicwire good copy just asking because I'm building an 06 G35 Coupe w/ a 2JZ VVTi. Kalvin Malli will be heading the build as I'm currently out of country.
dang...the MSD box only does 3 sparks under 3000rpm and 1 big spark from there to redline.😕 yes DP, I've painted my coils before with 500°engine paint to match colors in the engine bay. lastly before you break that nice shift boot, screw the knob off maybe?
Cool stuff. Some kind of silver ring on the top of the shift boot (over where it ends) would add another level of OEMness, but might be hard to fabricate.
Hey boys, what kind of magnetic phone mount is that stuck to the dash there? I've been looking for something like that, could only find vent mounted options and I'm not a fan of those.
I predict hard rubber sole of your shoe scratches up those metal pedal covers they'll look nasty with the silver "bling" poking through. They look amazing, stealthy, compared to OMP, OEM and ACS silver variants. I hope I'm wrong.
That shifter setup with the boot looks awesome, for me so many people mess that area up and it just looks botched. This is great.
if you get the RTD shifter you dont even need to modify anything. it fits perfectly and is a lot sleeker.
I used to work next door to Mark. His brother Matt has that crazy Beams motor early 70s celica. Matt is a wizard behind the wheel and Mark is a wizard with wiring. Both are top notch guys.
Oh hi and thanks! Fun fact: I also drive :)

The M3 is looking super bad ass fellas. Digging the blacked out look. That shifter looks sick!
I’m so late to this party but I’m loving all of your builds fellas. Cannot get enough of these build series!
Welcome back to the build that never ends.
Man, what a sweet build. I love how you're keeping the interior in for that super sleeper look. Can't wait to see it tear up the track!
That shifter boot looks amazing in there, and you did an awesome job just trimming enough for it not to lock like a hack job.

Was literally watching this as the new year rang in here in HK, Happy New Year fellas and keep up the brilliant work. Car is coming along nicely!
I hope everyone is taking a moment to celebrate amidst the chaos out there!
dude! You're in the future! haha still 11+ hours to go here in the US of A Central Standard Time! GMT -6
Definitely my favorite project you guys have done or anyone is doing right now. Never been a BMW guy but this car will be just about perfect. Great work and keep it up.
Happy new year from Australia!
Shifter console seats entire interior looks sick guys. Looking forward to seeing more on this project
There are lots of nice little touches that are bringing this car all together. Can't wait for future episodes
I always say it, but I have to keep saying it. Best car channel on youtube, so far ahead of all the flexers. You guys do great work both with the cars and the videos.
This seems like the most intensive build yet!
So nice that the wiring isn’t a hacked mess of red wires.
This car is going to be wild. The build quality it impressive. Looking forward to seeing it come together.
This car is insane! Can't wait till it's done. Great work Guys!
This build is RAD! Love the attention to detail!

Interior looks on point, good job Pete!
Leave the coils open (no cover) will help stop heat soaking the coils
SEM Trim Black for all the plastics you want to paint. It's perfect.
Really nice finish on the shifter set up guys.

FINGERS CROSSED ! The endgame is now
That supercar killer is getting serious !
That's going to be a sick ass bmw (supercar killer)
Great series!!! But I cannot convince myself about 2JZ decision!!

Great project that’s a great upgrade to the bmw 2j. And shifter looks great and those seats 👍

Yea or Calabogie

Schroth Rallye 4 asm would have been a better belt option, 4 Point harness with belt clip, but retains anti submarine breakaway design of the Tekate harness.
I agree. The ASM is an almost essential feature for a street driven car with a harness.
That's such a neat install. Love the look!

Would you guys put a custom horn on the car? The M3 intro at 0:17 with “huh” sound effect in the music just fits this car so much 😂
Such a great build series! Happy New Year SA..
This build is coming along nicely, though do you have any concerns about 'submarinig' with the 4-point harnesses?
My RTD shifter fits with no center console modification!
That ancient ignition system DP can't remember the name of is called "waste spark"
Cool cool. Can you tell me what's the name of your life under the M3 like that
Man I’m loving this car More and more 😁.. do that to mine and I will my motor in a e30.... goals😀

I love my personal wheel. Only downside is the red alcantara has really faded.
Nice interior....no gauges?
Surprised you don’t have any gauges installed
sounds like the ignition system is a Lost Spark type system, which is what comes stock on Mazda Miatas, although the older ones of course are not coil-on-plug.
It's fully sequential.
@@panicwire my bad, I was thinking of Wasted Spark, which it appears is what the stock ignition system was (1 coil per 2 plugs).
@@Patrick94GSR You're correct. I've taken the stock ignition to 700hp but seq with these modern parts is obviously better :)
