Alongside his point here, I realized a while ago that there are people who you can talk to (i.e. be bored together with) and there are people who are almost like already written books when you meet them-it's not to say they're unchangeable or unchanging, but you realize you can't affect them meaningfully. So instead of trying to be ultra witty and frantically impressive to the latter, I've been trying to calmly take in their learnings, and instead focus my manic creative energy on the former who are bored alongside me. :)

Boredom is a living tomb.
Stress is a ticking bomb.
*Your expectations should always be based on what you want and how you want it.*
Never dependant on someone or something else, because you only hold control over your own self.
The most important expectation is being better and wiser tomorrow that you are today.

Great podcast. Yuval's just got a ton of experience and his reflections are sharp and clear thoughts to ponder. I actually decided halfway through to stop this and just stay with boredom to see if the urge to watch this on TH-cam was a compulsive mind distraction or from a deeper interest to learn more. Good stuff.

I'm glad you've mentioned the issue of being unable to deal with boredom. Because, I tend to struggle with this a lot. I always feel the need, or feel pressured to do something, it is as though if I don't do anything I will miss out on a lot of things!

Having mentioned the hierarchies of ants and men, there is something that humans are getting better at that Harari calls free will. Now that my children are grown and gone, I am choosing to spend more time for consciousness developing activities: reading, writing, gardening, hiking and spending reflective time in nature. If we were truly honest, one of my heroes, the silverback has it one up over us because he spends much more time relaxing than building up an empire so he can then have more time relaxing but he now has some degenerative disease that a more relaxed lifestyle may have helped him avoid.

Jay brings lightness/creativity from self discipline and harari, like his shirt, personifies the dark fears folks think when concerned about the future of tech/politics.
The truth of the matter is that conscientious consumers exist; they are aware of their role in swaying the influence of corporate power. They're also stock stakeholders, when given the opportunity to support worthy businesses with values mostly aligned with their own they will help them grow (Tesla and more recently with a strong rate since going public over a month ago: BYND ✨).
I wonder if Harari is in favor of free vasectomy clinics for all
nations. That might be a more effective solution to worrying how to educate masses that are ill equipped to keep up with changing times. No amount of education/resources will band-aid and resolve the growing unemployment especially if certain cultures ignore global environmental threats that humans contribute to. We shouldn't support populations that aren't even adapting to preserving nature.
The issue is how to approach elite/working class over-consumers to reduce their waste output of non-biodegradable products.
And in my specific case, how to garner support to develop a project without the local (norwegian) players pillaging my concept to one of "their own" 🙄😒 like they've shown to do, sometimes screwing up the point, on a number of occasions the past year. (They shouldn't steal from the source without fully understanding and giving ownership to the source.)

Where are the steps to " Get to know yourself"? How can you be sure what your thinking is "yourself" or outside forces or expectations you heard all your life from teachers, parents, grandparents and the world at large? All this buzz in your brain is hard to separate out. Where and how do you start? I have been trying to meditate for years and I don't know if it is even helping but I do it. I am so thankful I am never bored. Never have been. In a Dr's office, I love to notice the architecture, the decor, the unique way each person carries themselves, speaks and interacts. If you notice the sounds people make they can tell you a lot about the person. I love the senses we are so blessed to have. I love the questions kids ask their moms and if I could answer them, what would I tell them. I look at everything and notice how the furniture is made. I mean everywhere we go there is such beauty and bizarre things to pay attention to. I lay use to lay in the grass and watch bugs come and go. I have even followed tiny creatures going somewhere along the sand by the river. In the house I make up games to play with myself, usually throwing games as I am getting older. I try to make what I do enjoyable as my time is limited. I have always loved life and always sought to see it through your eyes, their eyes, even plants eyes. When I see a happy plant it fills me with joy. I admire it from head to toe and appreciate the beauty its sharing. Yuval always brings himself to the table and thats why I'm here. Thank you so much.

When it comes to Nature and Free Will, I would compare E.O. Wilson's sociobiology research and understand that the social organization of ant colonies and the social organization of human societies are very similar. According to Wilson, men and ants have been trading one empire for another for millennia and very little is different. KIngs and Queens and Emporers, slaves, workers, and all the intermediate managers.
