    • @ROBERTBROWN090564
      @ROBERTBROWN090564 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ike Zach Its this very simplicity that makes what he is saying all the more important. We need international cooperation at a very deep level to find solutions to three main global problems, otherwise we die. It's as simple as that.

    • @ikezach5469
      @ikezach5469 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ROBERTBROWN090564 Agree, we need global cooperation to resolve many things beyond the three mentioned, e.g.; one dictator (Maduro, VE) destroys life of 25 millions. I like Yuval a lot, but I think we start to believe in him like he is the Mesaia Many of the theories he's spreading, are not based on any thorough research, and it isn't his field anyway.

    • @ROBERTBROWN090564
      @ROBERTBROWN090564 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ike Zach As bad as VE is, it is not a global existential threat. The US media are obsessed with VE and virtually ignore climate change for example, which I think is a disgrace. I'm interested though, what theories you think Harari is spreading that are not based on research?

    • @ikezach5469
      @ikezach5469 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ROBERTBROWN090564 one example WRT no sufficient research, as he talk about the employment changes vis-a-vis AI effect. It is very possible that the service employment will grow many fold, as more, and more wealth is created.

    • @ROBERTBROWN090564
      @ROBERTBROWN090564 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ike Zach If you listen he specifically refuses to make predictions for the future. He is just saying we should prepare for the possibility that AI will replace more jobs than it creates. I’ve recently read a book called Life 3.0 and creating useless class is the very least of the many potential threats AI might present us with. It might be wonderful or it might be catastrophic, but we need to start the conversation now as the future is accelerating fast. Please read Life 3.0

    Ray Dalio, the hedge fund Titan already uses computer along side of him in highly complex decision making like using gps to assist driver. So computer is a sidekick positively here. What yuval writing in his books, to some extent, coming true up to know positively in many apps. To take care of negative side of computing power and biotech combined, the humanity has to think hard, cooperate wonderfully on global scale. But to know yourself better, in addition to meditation all humans have to study behavioural sciences research. In behavioural research, scientists already mapped human decision making almost comprehensively. I am surprised, Yuval never mentioned about behavioural sciences research in humans knowing about themselves and good decision making. I personally felt after reading James montier book on behavioural investing and other books on this topic , my decision making became much better. It is great excitement and satisfaction reading this behavioural research. So to know yourself better , study behavioural sciences, various types of meditations and may be Buddhism also (because Buddhism is all about reducing suffering, calming mind and body to know what is peace). And moreover I would add that, we are blessed having compassionate,super thinker like Yuval Harari in this world. Thanks Yuval on behalf of whole humanity.

    • @bellow_musicalpoetry
      @bellow_musicalpoetry 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jonathan Bowen i don't know of a time in history when the world's natural resources were shared equally with all the inhabitants on the planet. obviously such a cynical answer can only come from a mind that has not yet learned how to do any of these things. maybe i'm wrong, but the lack of respect for life has pushed us, humans, to the brink of extinction, and with us all life will perish, too. intelligence would clearly take any life threatening situation seriously and apply itself adequately, as in the case of malaria carrying mosquitos or cancers. but to destroy life for the sake of destroying it, as we are doing now? that is what is meant by 'respect' and the urgency that is required to live with it.

    • @ryosaeba3942
      @ryosaeba3942 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jonathan Bowen Well I certainly agree that humans need an upgrade but I don't think that touching only the brain (no matter how deep you go) will be enough. Although the brain is a key point our organism works as a whole in order to interact with the environment (it just evolved in that way). A radical modifications that probably lead to speciation could be the solution but like you said it will take time.

    Harari is make huge assumption, by saying that human beings are intelligent and compassionate, that is absolutely not true. Human beings are smart but not intelligent, we are selfish, greedy, and so many things but not compassionate, we think words are the real thing, so when we use word compassion or love, what we means is emotion, pleasure, jealousy, and so on. He has the right diagnosis of coming self-destruction of humanity, but what he is missing is that, human irrationality desire for power, and almost complete lack of understanding oneself. And with limits of his knowledge, makes it almost impossible to solve these problems of nuclear war, environmental disaster, and Ai and bio engineering. He has excellent suggestion, which is the most important thing in life, to know oneself. But he doesn't tell us what the means are; after thousands of years of religions, analysis, philosophy, and so on have not brought about self-knowing, but in contrary it has made our problems more complex and dangerous. Solution of the problems have becomes much bigger problem, because we do not understand the problems.
    "If we can really understand the problem, the answer will come out of it, because the answer is not separate from the problem".

    This guy is a bullshitter. He's always insinsting that its open borders or nuclear war.
    Countries CAN coexist as "fortresses" as long as they have good dimplomatic relations.
    America is fortress, Russia is a fortress, China is a fortress, Turkey is a fortress, Israel is a fortress... and they seem to be going pretty well.

    Saddest outlook on what should be a natural human life cycle. The organic human development and experience seems to be not as important as technology according to Yuval. Does he think our spiritual and human growth through ……without complete exterior AI assistance … Does he think that isn’t worth fighting for? I really don’t think humans can excel that way!!!! We need to make our own decisions and come to our own - self made- conclusions!! It’s how we naturally evolve!!! This concept is absolutely contrary to nature. His ideas are a utopian delusion that is just as dangerous as the ideas that created the USSR!
