I would love to hear a discussion of the Transalp riding experience with someone who is a veteran of the BMW GSA. Especially an older rider who might be considering downsizing while minimizing loss of function.
I am a previous GS 1200 owner and I’ve had a Transalp for about six weeks now. I love the Transalp. Don’t get me wrong the GS was pretty awesome, minus the up front cost and maintenance expenses. I may add a DRZ400S to my stable soon. Crazy I can have both for less than a GS.
@@Hookmeister Thanks, that’s the kind of input I was seeking. I think my fear of low speed maneuvers with the heavy GSA is keeping me from doing the work to become a better rider. I think that the lighter Transalp would let me take more chances. At least that’s my theory.
Hey Buddy! So, I'm split between getting a pre-owned Tiger 900 Rally Pro (2021/5K kms) and a new Transalp. I know spec-wise they are Oranges and Apples. My riding usage is city and touring; My riding style is pretty Hooliganish. So, here in India (no T7s, Tuaregs or KTM 790/890s here. Even the Honda AT comes in a lowered suspension model) the Tiger 900 Rally is the bike that checks all the boxes. The High Maintainance Costs are the Only Red Flags. So, enter the Transalp: it's light and nimble: makes for a good project bike - rally seats, suspension upgrade etc along with Honda's reliability and affordability. Also, makes for a better Daily Do-it-All. So, What would you suggest?
I think you said it there at the end... A mate of mine has the tiger 900 pro, amazing to ride but sadly he has so many issues from new he sold it 6months later.... The Transalp is more fun to ride hard as well.... Full review and off road video coming soon. Thanks

Great bike love it, but the rear suspension is not up to the job, now changed to a Hagon unit, transformation, only the tyres are the only limiting factor. Rear wheel converted to tubeless. Karoos are better than Dunlops. Plan to fit electric cruise in the new year.
@@exeterrider With one average rider and not ridden hard the suspension is plush and fine, but put pushing it to limits and when riding 2 up it s struggles. I just think is a great upgrade to maximise it on the road, Im not an off road rider, but plan to try it.

Thanks Noob 👍I have also had that with the NC when it was stuck between 2 bikes and all I had to hold on to was the screen, hence the crack on one of the bolt holes.
When I see my vstrom against my old VFR I think it’s almost ugly but for comfort, touring, suspension etc, would never go back. U don’t look at it when ur on it
(I know I shouldnt, but) I'm the type to drag pegs on tight turns. Can this get a peg down? Or is the 21 front a bit too much of a sacrifice for someone like me?
For sure your test bike is the best colour, that black is blander than a bland thing... Sorta the new beige.... 😊 Seems an ok sort of bike, I would say that it would be a good tourer but on the dirt? Im not convinced.... I reckon the off road orientated riders will go T7 all day long (just the opinions of an ol' fool!😊)
Yeah the T7 is a proper off road jobby BUT I would say it feels out of place on the road. The manners off-road really surprised me handling-wise ,and wish I could have done more with it TBH but 3 weeks was up before I knew it sadly : (
It was controversial decision in the beginning on Honda's part to replace all v-twins with 270° cranks parallel twins. Specially for the Africa and Transalp, the parallel twin engine frees up a lot of space where the back cylinder would be and that allows for easier and more varied design in this space.. Like the seat position, air box and the overall length of the bike.

@@exeterrider Booked my Transalp XL 750. Delivery in FEB 2024! Thanks🙏
I really like these myself, but not been in my local Honda dealers in a while infact, so that'll probably be another short winter ride vid from my end mate! 🤣👍
Great vid as always dude & keep meaning to ask where I'd find a livestream you were on & disclosed your "Real" name? 🤔 It wasn't 1 of yours, Rev Bombs, The Peaky Bikers or The Military Biker (I catch up with all those currently) & I remember you giving me a telling off for calling you by your real name before on here Jeff! 😉👍
Ello mate, that was economical rides live stream... Infact we have another one booked on his channel on the 30th.
Yeap me names it there now, not something I dreamed to do really for a few reasons but just part of the path I was on.
Hope alas we'll with you John, and your still getting it there 👍
@@exeterrider I'll hopefully catch some of that on my lunch break then mate & will look out for the new one coming! 👍😎
Yeah all good here Steve & hopefully be back out again soon, well as soon as the heated grips are on the G310GS that is!!! 🥶🤣👍
@@johndiehardmclean23 hit the lanes mate, they are quite good at them 🍻👍
Hi good review of both colours I told Nick I’m interested in one of these if anything seriously goes wrong with my bmw I like the black one classic mistake left the Artago bmw disc lock was like hitting a brick wall thanks for the channel flash up appreciate that me and Nick are doing the ring of red around the M62 next Sunday should be an excellent weekend 👍🏍️
Hello mate, I didnt click who you were then but then remembered. Your channel i.d is deceiving ha. No worrys mate, have a good trip on Sunday : )
@@exeterriderhi definitely nicks looking forward to it 👍
Great bike love it, but the rear suspension is not up to the job, now changed to a Hagon unit, transformation, only the tyres are the only limiting factor. Rear wheel converted to tubeless. Karoos are better than Dunlops. Plan to fit electric cruise in the new year.
I like your bike! I liked the suspension tbh👍
@@exeterrider With one average rider and not ridden hard the suspension is plush and fine, but put pushing it to limits and when riding 2 up it s struggles. I just think is a great upgrade to maximise it on the road, Im not an off road rider, but plan to try it.
@@davidsandilands1285 ahh I see yes that's fine
Great video. Lots of info to digest.
I would like tubeless tyres.
You and me both! Its a shame really when apart from that it's a 10/10 bike , Thanks for watching this.
@@exeterrider I'm interested in buying a new bike (next year) and the top runners are Transalp and Tracer9, so far.
I think having watched your Transalp video that it's still in the running. Tubed tyres being my only concern.
I'll dive in and watch more of your videos. Thanks for making them.
Thanks mate, tracer 9 is superb aswell... For me it would still be the trans because it fells more fun to ride, and the tracer 9 for me was a little too racey and wants to go all the time.
Goodluck with it all 👍
@@exeterrider we could talk all day about bikes. I would say that the Tracer9 suits my style of riding but maybe the Transalp would be better? I'll have a test ride soon. Thanks again.
Couldn't get higher praise for a bike than from you both, well done👍
Thanks David👍
evening Mr Dave - I might have to try some green lanes some time 🙃
@@icedidiHmm, may have to get another trail bike, ER has been on about it too! Seems like you have mastered car parks now so need a new challenge😇
@@davidhawkins120 🤣 It took some doing and I had a rough start but yes, I think I can put a tick by Car Parks!
😂
definetely it's not the bike I would buy for the look of it, but it is really good package I think.
Yes it is mate, its a good mile eater
I had that sidestand issue happen on my Z1000SX. It fell on the Himalayan, which kept it upright 😂
Very nice review and good to hear from two genuine bikers who actually have experience of the bike and give their unbiased opinion
Thanks Noob 👍I have also had that with the NC when it was stuck between 2 bikes and all I had to hold on to was the screen, hence the crack on one of the bolt holes.
Hopefully Honda will release a street version of the Transalp with a 19" front wheel.
Maybe, you never know!
When I see my vstrom against my old VFR I think it’s almost ugly but for comfort, touring, suspension etc, would never go back. U don’t look at it when ur on it
I think Suzuki repeatedly make comfortable bikes from my experience
I'd like to see you do a comparison test between the Transalp and the Vstrom 800..
Me too, but Suzuki are still lagging behind a little when it comes to this stuff although they are aware of me so I'm told.
I think Lamb Chop Rides has done a comparison video on these two bikes.
He has yes
(I know I shouldnt, but) I'm the type to drag pegs on tight turns. Can this get a peg down? Or is the 21 front a bit too much of a sacrifice for someone like me?
I never did that but it's not that type of bike👍
Yes you can at times
Great natter about a very desirable bike. Nice one 👍🏼
Cheers SB, I enjoyed making this one
A very nice bike overall but should have tubeless rims/tyres.
Yes I know what you mean there 👍🍻
For sure your test bike is the best colour, that black is blander than a bland thing...
The manners off-road really surprised me handling-wise ,and wish I could have done more with it TBH but 3 weeks was up before I knew it sadly : (
I bought it as it matched my jacket 😉😆😁
🤥🤣@@icedidi
What camera was this filmed with?
Samsung s8👍 why you ask? Colours off?
@@exeterrider I thought the picture quality was really good.
Cool mate thanks, amazing what can be done on a phone📱👍🍻
Er, the white bike has the taller screen by the look of it
It looks like it on the video but infact they are the same. It's just the way the bikes are sat.
That's a therapy session.
Good, I'm pleased about that 👍😊
white looks much better in my opinion
Than is for watching mate 👍🍻
What the heck !!!! Ice did not swear 🤣🤣🤣
On his best behaviour around Exeter, who NEVER swears and is easily shocked 🤣🤣
Yes I think it was his twin
That may change in a upcoming blooper video Lilly 📹😂
@@exeterrider 😉
Me? Swear? 😇😇
Ice does not do off road…. He needs an NT1100 and not AT next !
😂👍The NT isn't is style something twigs me but yes I see where your coming from 🤔👍
It was controversial decision in the beginning on Honda's part to replace all v-twins with 270° cranks parallel twins. Specially for the Africa and Transalp, the parallel twin engine frees up a lot of space where the back cylinder would be and that allows for easier and more varied design in this space.. Like the seat position, air box and the overall length of the bike.
Yeap, I like a Vtwin, but the parallels make a lot of sense👍
