These were not Toronto FC fans. These are Messi fans who otherwise don't attend, pay attention, or care about Major League Soccer. That's not derogative, just simple factual. Where were the fans? Well, as pointed out here, they sold the tickets because that's just free market. If 1 game can cover 10-16 others, you can't pass that up unless you are wealthy. This wasn't a must-win game. The season was already lost in Chicago. I would have sold my ticket too.

100% MLS is not at that point yet where Messi would be hounded and booed or taunted. It's like Caitlin Clark and the WNBA as well. When Connor McDavid comes to play at Scotiabank people aren't cheering for him lol

As for Seba, maybe he's supposed to be the Italian whisperer. I don't see anyone renewing their tickets solely because he's around, but they need to do something this off-season or 2025 at BMO Field will be funereal

I'm with Sharms. What pissed me off the most, was watching the fans cheering for the Miami win at the final whistle. Pathetic, the naive soccer mentality has to go because it doesn't put pressure on the club to perform to take the club seriously.

Manning and Bradley really hurt this team. We came from dead last and almost made the playoffs with a team with little depth. Lost the Canadian Championships to a more balanced Vancouver side in Vancouver in penalties. I remember before the season everybody writing them off but after a decent start talking about playoffs. Fans have a right to be upset but we need a good offseason to make playoffs a reality. We were paying contracts for players that weren't even playing, ie. Diamonde.
Insigne has to go no question, Take the hit, free some space and make good moves. Key areas being Striker, play making midfield, savvy winger to replace Insigne, and a good CB. We need to up the pace and tempo to make quick transitions. Instead of whining lets talk about what could be done to better the team moving forward,

@sharms, given how poor this current TFC team is, it not surprising the TFC fans lack of support vs Miami and large numbers selling their tix. A good comparison is when Becks (fully aware that Becks is not Messi but he is/was a massive football brand) came to MLS.
In '07 lots of Becks mania when he came to TO. Bit different story in '12 at Skydome when TFC were competing (miss the streamer days)...

I do notnthink we should buy him out. That wpuld make insigne happy. I say bench him 2025, and let him play 15 minutes a game , if that for the entire season. Show em the hard way. Why pay him to walk for free he can warm the benches instead.

Call me a card carrying member of the M.P.A., but I agree with Sharms. Seeing BMO Field filled with fans cheering against TFC is never gonna sit right with me. Hope they got their money's worth watching Messi stroll around the pitch for half an hour doing f- all. And the irony that it was the 'fan appreciation game' was laughable. They kept thanking the fans for supporting them the whole year when 70% of the crowd probably has never and will never go to another TFC game. At least we got to see Seba again. Good times...

Season ticket holder and I was cheering Messi, Best thing I've seen at BMO for years. The management of the team is a total slap in the face to the support, and the pitch is shit because of the Argos another slap in the face.

I'm with Wonger on the Messi story: this guy's the biggest draw for the league, the reason we have the Leagues cup, the reason every other home game has to start at 7:30, and probably the reason we have to have three home games in March in Toronto. So he better show up to justify all the league has been doing.

No one could touch Insigne when Manning was still at the club because Manning had so much ego invested in him he could not afford to have anyone question his decision. It would not stand up under even the briefest scrutiny. Now that Manning is gone, Herdman, if so inclined, may be able to bench him and use him as a sub where he can. That's probably the only way forward. And if the situation goes toxic, do what the club did to Jozy at the end. It's not like the club doesn't have experience with that.

Why to support the 4th or maybe 5th best team in Canada when they play crap all year around? Why don’t I see this support for CANMNT when we play against Jamaica or other Latin American teams?
TFC needs to play in CPL. They will struggle to win it too.
