Dion Fanning: "I remain a Stephen Kenny advocate in principle" The support that Stephen Kenny got from the media was always stunning to me. His teams produced the most abject performances I have ever seen from Irish teams....yet the media refused to call it like it was. Edit: Listen further to this, I think these journalists are too emotionally invested. The way they talk it's almost like they have been traumatized by the losses. This is the mindset of a fan. These guys need to divorce themselves from fandom.
Yes indeed, the Stephen Kenny “experiment” was a harsh but valuable lesson for Irish media types like Dion Fanning, who thought they knew more about football than lifelong professional football people like Giovanni Trappattoni and Martin O’Neill.
..i switched off when ,the guy with the glasses said ,he remains a Stephen kenny fan...does this guy not understand the players lack of confidence and the state the team is in ,is down to Kenny..unbelievable
Dont think its fair to say Doherty has been scapegoated or it was just a reaction to Greece. He has been absolutely appalling for years outside of a very small handful of performances and I don't think you'd find many going to the Aviva who'd think otherwise
I find Dion Fanning’s opinions on Irish football to be worthless. Not long ago, he was on Off The Ball criticising Stephen Kenny for not being adventurous enough. This is the same pundit who once criticised Martin O'Neill for not starting a 17-year-old Troy Parrott, even though Parrott was only in Spurs’ youth team at the time. In the lead-up to Euro 2012, Fanning went as far as to claim that Giovanni Trapattoni's squad was on par with anything Jack Charlton had managed. Having a posh accent and a father as editor seems to matter more than having decent opinions. That said, I do enjoy the podcast in general - it’s refreshing to have a daily Irish sports podcast that doesn’t spend half its time playing self-indulgent jingles.
Why do people watch this when the audio is fine. Listening to some lad moan about the set. Watching a pod, it's like that feeling you get when you see someone out and about taking photos with a iPad.
Stephen Kenny imo did huge damage to Ireland team was awful appointment ..when he took over from Mick McCarthy, Mick still had them competitive and whilst not qualifying for tournament, Mick was close...Kenny got paid over 500k a year for what....new coach not the right man either.2 defeats our of 2 and will be soon 3 defeats and 1 draw...dire

@@davidpryle3935.. He doesn't seem to have learned his lesson???
If anyone wants a ridiculously useless fact, Dion's uncle played Father Frost in Father Ted. Or as Father Damo refers to him 'Frosty'

In fairness the confidence was terrible before that in the Mick McCarthy era
@@paulcolin9926.. we were one goal from getting to the euros under Mccarthy
Great to hear Dion get a chance to speak 😂
Absolutely. Brolly cuts across him constantly, it makes that podcast impossible to listen to.
.. he talks absolute garbage

Spot on with your observation!
Great new set.....and bright. Love the chat.
Big improvement with the new look set Joe
Can someone please link that video they referred to at 13:17 about the FAI managerial interviews back in 1996?

You love to see it! Joe, you’ve saved Irish sports journalism
.. How on earth has he done that???

Have all the people in view for most of video. Not just focusing only on speaker

What's with the lack of edits on the preamble? Such a rip off of The Overlap. It's not cool
Some of us disagree, nice to see the humans behind the podcast
