Thanks for talking about this! To clarify the guy did assault me and there was a whiteness, but the police didn't press charges. Another time they took a knife off him while he was on his way (drunk) to my house and let him go. Two men had to restrain him when he followed me into a shop and chased me. They took him in for one night and let him go. I can't have a gun because I have tourettes and it wouldn't be safe for me to use one. The police have just suggested that I quit my streaming career because they would rather I quit my job then have to actually do theirs. We have to fend for ourselves. I put my money into my mum's care needs so I could never afford 24 hour security guards. If I quit tomorrow none of these stalkers will forget me or stop, I will just have less money to spend protecting myself from them. I'm angry for all all the streamers who have to face this every day. We literally risk our lives to entertain people. 😞

They literally arrest people that can vaguely match a description for a minor crime, but refused to do anything in terms of stalking until the stalked is already physically violated. It’s exhausting.

The stalker issue doesn't apply to streamers alone. I have been stalked by people I have met in bigger streamers chats, I'm sure you already know their name without me saying them. This was during a time on Twitch when chats were actually fun (not toxic) and offline chats were a nice way to pass the time when you weren't busy.
In a bigger streamers chat I made some friends with quite a few people, mostly in offline chat. I ended up adding people on discord and we played games sometimes, it was fun for awhile. I started dating one guy from the group and when I realized how scary he was I broke it off with him. He ended up saying he'd hurt people for me, hurt himself, kill people, etc etc. All the while he had some really bad memory loss and some serious anger issues. He kept sending me gifts in the mail, one time I thought my current boyfriend had sent me it, but it was him. Completely ruined my day and I didn't know what to do so I hid it from my family. I called the company that the gift was sent from, asked if I could be put on a 'do not send' list (explained my situation) and they told me they don't do that because it will hurt their business. Well, he kept sending me the same gift over and over and over. I honest to god hope that company goes bankrupt.
Not only was I sent weird gifts, I was being stalked online for years. To this day. This guy went through my friends, asking where i was, what i was doing, how i am, who im dating/friends with, etc. He still makes fake accounts to see my social media. It scares me to know that there are so many kids in these chats that can fall victim to stalking. I never called the police because after the company told me they wouldn't help me I just assumed without evidence they couldnt help me. I've done a lot of renaming, changing emails, everything you can think of to lose this guy but it never seems to work. I'm having to use an alternate account to even post this comment.

    Update: Stalker arrested.
When it comes to this behavior, the common advice is take it seriously, contact the authorities with it in mind that they aren't personal security and won't camp your home, arm and secure your home to include hiring personal security (get a dog), tell friends/family about it, and contact a local advocacy group such as a DV center or a a lawyer.

It is mildly amusing that if a kid threatens to shoot up a school, then he gets immediately arrested, with no questions asked. But when a stalker threatens to harm someone, cops don't do anything. So it seems to either be a problem of age (being an adult, the threatened person can defend themselves) or a problem of numbers (only the threatened person is harmed in the stalker case). Either way it's messed up

The police incompetence in stories like this remind me of that guy who got brutally stabbed on a subway in front of 2 officers who stood and did nothing (not even calling an ambulance). Long before I was born, my mom was stalked by a cop. He would follow her around, pull her over in the middle of nowhere and make her get out of her car and walk back while he followed in his car, showing up at her job, etc. It all came to a head when my uncle visited my mom at her job (she was a bartender at the time) and the cop assaulted him and threatened him bc he didn’t know he was her brother. My biological father (who was my moms boyfriend at the time) knew one of the higher ups in the cops department but the BEST they could do was move him to a different area away from my mom.
Like 6-8 months after this he pulled over a different woman in the middle of the night (who he had been stalking) in the middle of nowhere and raped her.

There has to be a guide online on what to do in a situation like this where lawenforcement doesnt do anything.
Use decoys, get your sister to a safe place and switch cars, lure the stalker to her with orchestrated social media posts.
A crime will be committed, its either you who does the crime or the stalker but it seems like its no longer a choice to do this lawful unless she doesnt mind moving.

He attacked her once and the police were called and he wasn't caught, she also told them he had a weapon but nothing was done. A week later he broke into her house, killed her dad, her girlfriend, and then himself. I had to go to a funeral for a girl I had known since 5th grade and the other girl moved away. I understand how it can be rocky because a crime 'hasnt yet been committed,' but honestly stalking in and of itself should be considered a violent crime, under the same logic as false bomb/shooting threats. (Actually) stalking someone, no matter the motive, makes them fear for their safety/life, and reasonably so. The amount of crippling and genuine fear that you can cause that person can be detrimental to their mental and even physical health. Stalking should absolutely be punishable without them having to commit another crime.

it really is, and the amount of evidence you need to actually realise you’re being stalked is genuinely insane, and the paranoia that follows is terrifying. i was stalked but thought i was overreacting until i stepped back and looked at the situation.
a guy i talked to once or twice casually starts showing up more and more often at my usual cafe (on college campus), he constantly asked me ‘what does your timetable look like / what course do you do ?’. and stupidly i showed him my timetable and gave him all the info he needed to remember which one it was, that was how he knew where i was at all times…and i was completely innocent to it. worst of all he took the same bus as me, so he had a rough idea of where i lived. eventually i had to report him to the college, but that made him ask everyone who knows me for either my number so he could ‘apologise’ or to set up a ‘meeting’ so we could discuss the issue. and that’s only the summarised version, it was fucking terrifying man i didn’t (and still don’t) feel safe at all at college with him there

  • @WildHorizon

I had a man stalk me for four years. He was 40-50 something years old and I only met him once. I was still all dressed up for church because when we got back we realized my dog was missing and so I was looking for her. He showed me some picture of his “daughter” who turned out to be another girl he was stalking. He moved into and began renting the house right next door. We complained for two years and the only reason they came out and put him in cuffs was because he walked into my home and walked out with my underwear, my pillow, and a few of my clothes and stuffed animals. They said they couldn’t find anything. He went to jail for a night. When the trial eventually did roll around, we were only granted a restraining order for a year and he was sentenced to three years probation but only served about about 8-10 months I can’t exactly remember. I can’t exactly remember because I was 15 when this all started.
He had a history, he’d done it to two other girls, about the same age, same he ght height, same looks-and still, the justice system failed me. He had some slight mental disorder and absolved him of his crimes apparently.
After I came home from college, I didn’t have a car, so I was walking home from the store and I saw a familiar white truck pass me really slow and my heart sank. I watched him go by 7 times on my ride home. I jumped ship and moved in with some guy I met and he never found me again. I think he lost interest thankfully, (I guess, because I haven’t had any problems for about about 3 years now) but it also hurts to know he’s out there tormenting some other girl…
I’ve been hurt a few times and the justice system has never once helped me.

To the people saying things like "just move houses/cities/somewhere else", it doesn't always stop the stalking. Stalkers will often find a way, somehow, anyhow, to track their victim down, and find their new location. If the victim changes their number, they'll find out what the new number is. If the victim quits their job and starts a new one, the stalker will find out their new place of employment somehow. Stalkers will go to any length to get to their victim, they are extremely dangerous, and they are NOT to be underestimated.

They didn't decide to be targeted, the stalker did.
The victims are usually just living their lives like any other person and should be able to live in peace. They shouldn't have to uproot and destroy their life because some pathetic excuse of a person decided to target them.
I know that actually holding the stalker responsible for their actions and focusing on them to stop (or even just be arrested for stalking) is unfortunately idealistic in many current societies though which is disturbing.
It's ridiculous how many people think "just move somewhere else", "just don't go out", etc. are valid suggestions for the targets instead of focusing on stopping the stalkers.
The stalkers should be the ones who suffer the consequences but it often ends up with the target suffering and losing the most.
There needs to be significantly faster and harsher punishments for stalkers because at the moment, not much is being done and it's insane.

In the events of robberies, r*pes, assaults, and even murders, I always see people blaming the victim, saying they were "asking for it", or "must have done something to deserve it" or provoke the person. It's disgusting. There definitely needs to be more education on stalking, because there's still so much ignorance and mockery towards it.

It cannot be understated exactly how bad of an idea it is to move while you are being stalked.
If you even have to move, that's very costly, and that alone deserves reparations should the law, by some ungodly circumstance, see this as the solution.
But that's not even to say the risks and dangers of moving to a new place, leaving the place you're familiar with, leaving the home you're familiar with and have more control and stability.
"No, you should move to a strange new place where you have no connections, no clue where anything is" What the fuck? Whatever new apartment or hotel you stay at isn't nearly as secure as an actual home or residence with family and loved ones.
That's not to speak of your loved ones. This can easily become a hostage situation. They can try to blackmail you. Say you decide to move back to your hometown? That can put your own family and friends at risk.

She sent over a hundred long deranged incel emails to this poor boy and finally had a psychotic break after getting nothing in return. She then spent every waking moment outside looking for him, I even had to hide all of our kitchen knives because she had become so unhinged.
Law enforcement told us that we couldn't even legally force her out unless she actually hurt someone, I had to tell her to gtfo myself. @@getbogged dude, I’m a server and I’m glad I never went through that. However, a friend of mine who was also a server at the time as me (she introduced me to the place), she was somewhat-harassed by this customer who only requested women. Weird, but whatever. She served him like once or twice, and all of a sudden he only wanted to be served by her. There are regulars who request certain severs, so it wasn’t a big deal. Everyone who worked there always thought he was odd, but we didn’t think anything of it because we thought he was just a weirdly nice person. Then after that, he kept on coming back only on the days *she* worked, and if she didn’t work that day for some reason or was busy, he would just leave or would wait until she could serve him.
After awhile, it started to get out of hand, and she refused to serve him anymore. He would always comment about how beautiful or smart she is, and constantly ask her for a drink or dinner after she got off - even after she told him that she had a fiancé. She would politely decline his offer everytime, but when he told her that her relationship with her fiancé wouldn’t work out for many reasons he *listed,* that’s when she stopped serving him.
She got a new job in another city, so she sadly doesn’t work there anymore, for other reasons, but that was the main one. But almost everytime we talk about our jobs, she asks if that guy has come back. The weird part is he only came back once, and one of the servers told him she doesn’t work there anymore, he never came back. It’s honestly weirdly concerning.

For those who don’t know much about stalking, the stalker rarely even understands that what they’re doing is wrong. We ended up taking this one stalker in particular to court for a restraining order. When confessing to the judge, he clearly had no remorse for the things he did or said to my fiancé. And he said some nasty, creepy stuff. Even wrote it down in letters and had them delivered anonymously while she was working. We ended up getting the restraining order from the judge no problem after the judge read the notes but restraining orders are only valid for one year. My fiancé quit her job 364 days later to avoid the stalker entirely.

He'd still follow her everywhere and try to talk to her, he also found out where she lives and would ring her door every other day. She went to the police 3 times and they pretty much ignored her, claiming there was nothing they could do. 3 weeks after all this started he rang the door when I was alone at her house, so I grabbed a bat and handled the situation by myself. It's been a couple years and had no more news of him. To this day, I can't think of any other way any of us could've handled the situation better, and yet, if he pressed charges against me I'd get in trouble. Victims of stalking are extremely vulnerable and I believe it's a legal problem, instead of a police one.

My mum was a victim of stalking for quite a while. This was the late 90s/early 2000s, so the internet was different then. But my mum's ex-husband's wife was a crazy stalker. Apparently, when my mum was in labor with me, this lady hjacked my mum's business website. She changed it to be a bunch of photoshopped nudes of my mum. This whole website was changed and trashed while my mum was in the hospital having me.
Stalkers are lifeless individuals and I will never treat them as human beings. Not after what I've seen and experienced. My mum spent the past decade protecting me from internet stalkers and other dangers. I'm glad she did because this is horrifying.

I appreciate that Charlie does point out how difficult it is for law enforcement to act in situations like stalking where there's technically no "crime" yet. But when the evidence is clear and available, police NEED to step in. It's this kind of crap that makes people less likely to call police when they need to. Police should be able to be trusted as protectors, but when they fail to act, it can end tragically.

You have to take into account her line of work, she is a sex worker that uploads images and videos on only fans, and also streams herself with very little clothing on a gaming platform called twitch. This platform is full of tweens and also more vulnerable people whom seek to watch footage of gameplay. Twitch is strictly anti sexual content, and has even banned this person before from their platform, and changed their rules because of them and a few other "streamers" like her, making it so you're only allowed to wear bikinis in a pool or a beach. She went as far as to buy an inflatable pool and use it in her room to continue her "work". She gives more attention to the men that donate the most, often giving them the delusion that they might one day be with her. Some of these men are very sexually neglected and desperate. Whether this is moral or immoral, that's subjective, the question is, is it her fault that she's getting stalkers? Knowing what her work entails, having millions of male viewers and exploiting their sexual desires, she could have used the millions of dollars she makes from her twitch streams to buy a home with better security, or better security measures in her current house, or at the very least avoid exposing her real location to online strangers.

    Questions I still have:
How fucking cold hearted and careless do you have to be to not help a TEENAGER calling for help against a stalker, fine them, and still not help until the stalker’s work is done? (The stalker killed this teenager.)
I do get that specific acts of events that can be considered stalking can’t be acted upon. But it begs the question, what is considered to be an act of stalking that can be acted upon? Because (According to the video) the stalker had weapons on him while streaming himself stalking her and was even caught with weapons when arrested, but was only released A DAY after this? This was after ignoring her and saying that she was wasting police time, and when they sent someone, it took over half an hour. If this stalker had major intentions to kill her, or even had a firearm, she would’ve definitely been killed in that time if the stalker wanted to. But this was still not enough to send concern to the authorities. Does the stalker have to shoot guns at them for police to respond? Even then, it would be converted to attempted murder, not stalking. Just judging by the stories mentioned, the people getting stalked and telling police about it seem to get punished instead of the stalker, you know, THE ONLY REASON WHY THEY CONTACTED AUTHORITIES IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Simply trying to do their job while also being hated by people, lied to and harassed themselves.
There needs to be a universal stalking law in place that makes this kind of behavior an escalating issue. Initially being treated as someone just going too far for a minute then escalating very quickly after. Tbh, get some friends with you. Try to confuse them by taking random dog walking routes and paths. I don’t know much about avoiding stalkers n such, but I believe that there are 3 options to this.
      1. Bring friends or tell people you trust about it.
      2. Get authorities involved, but tbh they prob won’t do much unless they confront the stalker taking pics of u.
      3. Get your friends or go yourself, and when you see the stalker in the park, confront them and make sure people around you see. Although I prob wouldn’t if u believe the stalker is armed or will use violence. But this is just my opinion, which tbh, might be dumb stuff I’m telling you.
But if your being stalked and you don’t trust what I’m saying which is understandable since I’m just a random guy saying my opinion, get a professional’s advice about dealing with stalkers.

My mom had a stalker for five years back in the 80s. Following her to work, lurking outside her house, confronting her in parking lots, the works. The cops say they can’t do anything for her. So the cops solution? They literally told her next time he shows up at your house, shoot him and drag his body into the house, then call us so it will seem like he broke in. That way the cops would be able to say it was self defense and she wouldn’t be arrested.
They did NOTHING. They told my terrified mom she had to MURDER her stalker herself and drag his body into her home, and then the police would do her a favor by not arresting her for it. I was beyond shocked hearing that.

My stalker sent a 50lbs package to me through the local police station. The same police station where I had them call and give her two no contact warnings. They said because she sent it to me through the police station and not my home address she technically didn’t break the order. Two months later she lied about who she was to my university, got my address, and showed up at my door with flowers. The police said they couldn’t arrest her because I don’t have a formal protection order and they wouldn’t issue a protection order because I don’t have her current address. The only way I can maybe get a restraining order is by reporting every incident, going to the courthouse, and filing a formal charge. THEN the police can retrieve her current address and serve her...then she can counter the charge and end up costing me thousands in court. What’s worse is I’m afraid to go forward with any of it because I’m worried it will piss her off enough to deliberately break the order, something she’s likely to try doing. Not only that, she’s from out of state and the order would only be good for the state I currently live in. I want to move after college and will probably have to go through it all again wherever I go. The advice the police gave me was to get a ring doorbell and a lock off of Amazon. Stuff like this is what turned my friend into a pro-gun advocate. A psycho was banging on her door and cops would not come. She's a 5 foot girl who lives in a ghetto area.
Thing is, they constitutionally do not have obligation to "Save you" from murder. Supreme Court has ruled that multiple times. For some reason, people still think cops are there to save you. No. They just have responsibility to capture criminals after the fact, when it's safe and convenient to do so. SWAT will deal with armed criminals but if you really want to be safe you're gonna just have to arm yourself and/or live with someone who knows how to defend the household.
They'll come over and draw chalk around your dead body though.

      A. the streamer they're stalking will suddenly fall in love with them and they'll live happily ever after
or B. They'll finally get their chance to enact whatever violent fantasies they have (like in the case of Sweet Anita.)

I think the "point" of the stalking and the violation of boundaries is that it's a cheap way to get attention and acknowledgement from the person they are obsessing over.
It's not necessarily about having an end goal. By constantly harassing the streamer, they insert themselves without that person's life. They become an active subject of discussion and may even push the streamer into taking certain life decisions (e.g. living alone, gated community, etc)

After graduation I cut off contact. He proceeded to evade my blocks and continuously try to contact me and draw me things for months. He also became fixated on my friend, through sheer association with me, found her place of work, and showed up looking for her multiple times. Luckily her workplace is a government-owned building, so they're taking things seriously enough to ban him from the premises. But it's just been really stressful, a lot of little things that build up. Just when you start getting comfortable enough to forget it ever happened, he pops up again trying to insert himself into your life. Thankfully I've moved away so I'm at least a little safer from dealing with that creep, but my friend is still living and working in the same place. It's been a year and we're still having incidents. This kind of bs is so intolerable. I'm not a streamer, but I am a female gamer. I had a stalker from a guild in game, who I tried to tell politely that I had a bf (who played the same game, in the same guild, who he knew and saw me spend every moment of my time with - no f'ing confusion should've been there) and our 'friendship' had to end because things were getting really weird. He proceeded to "ghost" in my boyfriend/my private discord channel, wherein we were the only members. We were telling each other how much we loved each other one night in voice, suddenly a familiar voice from our guild YELLS and starts screaming and crying... we both knew it was him by his voice. He didn't show up as "in the chat" though. Who knows how long he was in there creeping before he revealed himself. Within 48 hours I was hacked and a discord smurf posted photos of me, my family, etc. that were nowhere online, just on my computer, and had all my personal info. Even a photo of me by a dying loved one's side in their final days in the hospital. Then the threatening messages came. I called the police as soon as I was hacked and they acted soooooo concerned, I also contacted discord about the situation. Guess what... nothing done at all. This sicko posted photos and all my info in multiple discord channels with over 20k members... and made me scared to game or talk to anyone online for years. It took ages to overcome the trauma, and the police didn't do anything... though they pretended to care (even had a cybercrime investigator talk to me). It was so traumatic and in the end, nothing happened to him. My life just was turned upside down with no repercussions.

Change the laws so that they could launder in money somehow, so we reduce the pay and it encourages the politicians to be even more corrupt. There's many horror stories about how social workers couldn't get law enforcement to remove children from parents and the kids getting killed by them shortly after, or them not doing anything about kidnapping cases, or the recent shooting in Texas even. I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that by extension the same thing happens with stalking.

I have a friend who is very well known in cosplay circles. She has had the same stalker for over 10 years now. They've assumed her identity on social media pages and lewd sites, and have sold chat/phone sessions with themselves playing her. They've lost her jobs because of accusing her of the crime he committed against *her* and other defamatory statements made publicly. Law enforcement doesn't do a damn thing. They don't care.

I have a stalker problem myself that has left me with a lot of mental problems, and the only advice I can give anyone is to never leave the house alone. It will cripple you and hinder your ability to enjoy life, but that's the only thing I've been able to do to maintain my safety.

She works in between two nightclubs at a gas station and there are alot of creeps that try to get all up in some woman's bussiness. She used to call the cops, but they avg took about an hour to come by when her and her coworkers wouldve already had handled the situation. I keep saying that SWAT calls should have to have identity confirmation.
If you really believe there are people with guns and trying to go hurt people, you should be just fine with giving the police your name when you call for their help. If you can’t give your name then it’s obviously not that important. The police can simply just not release your name if you’re for real.

SWAT is different than the police you see driving around. A completely different branch and team of police. Generalizing the obviously two different branches make no sense. Civil force police officers do not respond to swatting calls. A specific SWAT force is sent. Civil force police officers are the ones who are sent for stalking cases.
What this tells you, these civil force officers need reform. SWAT are responsible and accountable for their specific job.
