    I enjoy your videos. I grew up next to an amusement park, so I have always been a "behind the scenes" person. It has permanent rides and 'flat' rides that are often cycled in or out and are made to appear permanent with landscaping. My aunt, mother and brother have all worked there, as well as my niece and nephew. Familiar manufacturer's names in your video.

    When you showed the pretzel ride car I was thinking you should do a dark ride next. Then you said it. 😂. I worked for Bud Hurlbut at his Castle Amusement park back in the early 1990s. I was part of a ride operating crew that helped pick out and restore a dark ride. It was fun and it gave a chance for us to be completely creative.

    If you’re ever in town again, let me know. I work at a well known carnival repair shop in Gibtown and we regularly fix many of these rides from basic light packages to heavy maintenance, fab, sandblasting and painting, all right up the street from the museum. Wouldn’t mind giving you a tour and I’m sure the boss man would give you an interview. He’s been around the block more than once lol.
    Great content.

  • @cup_and_cone
    @cup_and_cone ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Did they add to the model displays? It's bigger than I remember.
    I think trade shows in general are down. At this point they're basically just a gathering for long-time friends and industry acquaintances to hangout and socialize. Rarely are deals brokered at trade shows anymore.

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There was no mention of there being additions. I found out that Raymond Genter, the man who created the display, died in 2021. After donating this display in 2009, he went on to build a second 25 foot display that was then donated to another fair association.
      I tend to agree with your assessment of trade shows in general.

    It may be worth asking the museum if they have had to repair and or replace parts on the ride you are fixing. Perhaps they have a mold for those bells kicking around or something.

    You should look at miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg. They have model cities, trains and even an airport.
    They also have a fun fair display that is fully lighted and animated. There are videos of it on TH-cam. I think you'll like it even if it doesn't compare to going there for real of course

    • @PeteRondeau

      Yes there will be. Actually next week should be an Eli Bridge 🎡 Ferris wheel. I’m happy to record any set up. Just need to find an operator willing to let me crawl all over it and record while they set up.

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  ปีที่แล้ว

      from what I heard the earlier part of the week was both cooler (temperature wise) and better attended. we were there for the final two days and by the time we were heading out Friday afternoon, some of the vendors were starting to tear down their displays.

    Isn't the Raven actually a Chance Radar? Same folding trailer & sweeps, just different passenger seating. I may be ignorant here, but it seems like a simple mis-appropriation of names. (Unless this goes way back to the Allen Herschell days...)

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  ปีที่แล้ว

      The ride premiered as the raven. They built 2 ravens, 3 radars and finally 23 turbos

    Good day Pete I was thinking of making a swing ride for my kids I have a 5hp electric motor can you help me I don't know what ratio gearbox to buy ,I don't want to pressure the motor

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  ปีที่แล้ว

      For something like a swing a 5hp motor will be more than enough. Probably way more power than you need. Based on what I've seen, if you take the speed of your motor and calculate what you would need to get it down to 10 rpm that should get you close. You'll probably have 2 or 3 reductions between the motor and your final shaft. For instance on our rocket ride there is a belt drive between the motor and gearbox. That is the first reduction. Then the gearbox is around 10:1, then the output of the gearbox feeds a chain sprocket on the main shaft. so 3 reductions at the final shaft speed is about 10 RPM

      Carnival owners and ride etc owners will go to iaapa in Orlando, but they will also come here, along with game and food vendors. The oaba has its meetings here and fundraisers for our H2B program trying to help fix our labor problems
