After experiencing Onaway Big Rig Challenge two years ago, we knew it was only a matter of time before we found ourselves back in front of these 3,000 hp, 25,000 lb. monsters. This uphill Semi Truck drag race features both loaded (120,000 pound trailer) and unloaded races and attracts some of the fastest semi trucks in North America! It's definitely one to check out if you don't live too far from Michigan.

Have you seen the size of them!?! I'm a light vehicle mechanic, helped a semi driver broken down out the front of our shop, he was doing something under it (I was too busy to get involved at the time, but offered him the use of my toolbox), the size of the uni's were unbelievable!!! I had never seen ANYTHING like it 😳
Think, their is a Clutch Disc that handles this!!!
@@Cj1985_GT Good point, slipping a clutch even slightly under full load/full throttle is going to create some serious heat very quickly. Not just the heat, the force opposing the torque that's trying to tare the friction lining straight off the friction disc. The pressure plates must use a lot of spring pressure to make all this work so well. I can only imagine the hot spots on the flywheel from repeated full load/full throttle launches as well 😳

Remember kids, if your turbo sounds like an HKS T51R but isn't, it's about time to budget.
Had this exact thing happen running a custom holset on mine and 3 seconds later my windshield was covered in oil and my turbine shot out like a mortar 😂

@NatPeterson.89_ not entirely false. I worked for both of autozones competitors over the year's and many parts stores do crossover carry each other's parts, but definitely not in all instances.

The white truck that won has some kind of engine managemet that no one else seems to run. It rolls out 20 feet and the the black smoke starts pouring. Also he doesnt shift as much as most trucks.
That truck has a newer motor, the x 15 platform is a lot newer, and is still being produced, the Cat engines haven't been on road for decades.
I can't wait to see the guys get x15 trucks figured out, especialy like you said with the timing and power management that he is doing.

If it is using the original x15 fuel system it would be common rail which would give far more tuning capability and precision as compared to the meui systems on the c15’s and series 60’s

It is a 12v71 it has single heads on each bank, and a 12v92 has 4different heads each 3 cylinders it is basically 2 6v92s bolted together

There was a truck there I haven’t seen called Fat Cab. The owner had the only common rail 8v92 two stroke diesel in the world. He’s even using an aftermarket ECU (maybe Holley) to control it. It’s freaking wild and deserves some screen time.

Started driving tractor trailers back in 1976. I’ve been to at least three of those shows. Those are some pretty special machines. Especially when they start running the big boy toys. Some serious chicken haulers. Those that know, KNOW👍🏻👍🏻🤙

164,000lbs GVW is the limit for on road in Michigan. Off road areas in parts of the US and Canada exceed that by a large margin though.
@@nicholashawks9288 In Europe, the road truck with a trailer cant exceed 40 tonnes, which is 88 000 lbs and biggest difference from US is that the speed limit is never above 90 kmh, which is 56 mph. I was shocked when i saw American truckers driving 85 mph, thats CRAZY!!! Like nobody questioned the stopping distance of that weight at that speed.

The real action shots are inside the cab. These guys throw their whole soul into the shifts and it's epic. Spartan kicking a clutch capable of holding that torque is no joke and if a throw for a shift is off by a hair you're screwed. Definitely get some in cab footage next time.

I remember my first trip to Notre Dam du Nord truck rodeo. These videos are awesome but do not give being there justice. Some of the best drag racing I have ever been to. The sounds and vibrations through the ground of 3000hp trucks spinning the tires pulling 80,000lbs up a hill its such an experience. Notre Dam du Nord is crazy. They race up the hill in a town, with 10,000 people lined the street, did I mention its in the middle of town.
Love seeing coverage of these races from you guys. Never been enough of it for who enjoys these type of races.

Gayle Banks would approve. That single turbo works way more efficiently than twins. Gets the most out of the fuel being delivered. Less fuel, more air, less smoke. And it's not just the only single turbo, but I believe it's the only Cummins in that class as well.
Banks wouldn't be happy until there's no smoke.
@@Adam1nToronto And EGTs so high they could melt down a nuclear reactor...The "excess" fuel is what allows them to keep EGTs down enough to keep from melting the pistons.

The HD diesel world is slap full of secrets. Always has been. The show truck scene is full of one of a kind parts, and the underhood stuff gets even more secretive. The aftermarket for big rigs is limited. There's only so much you can really do and keep them reliable. But there are other paths you can take to get a leg up over everyone else. I work for a guy that has been in the show truck scene since the 80s and 90s and been trucking since the 70s. Hes had some crazy rrucks and has some crazy stories.
Man I'm getting old. I've been watching 1320 since my uncle had all the dvds growing up. Good to see Kyle embracing the Grey beard. My uncles no longer around and would be proud to see the success entirely. 🎉
