Kevin Rowland sat with us to talk about recording 'My Beauty' back in the 90s and what it's like to revisit and reissue it again in 2020.
Originally released in 1999, “My Beauty” was the second solo album from Dexys/Dexys Midnight Runners’ lead singer Kevin Rowland. The album was mostly unfairly received by critics at the time, but in the years since has come to enjoy cult status. This reissue is the first time “My Beauty” has been available on vinyl and on CD with its originally intended track-listing.

When I was 21, he was my god. I am 61 now, he is my human being. I am very delighted to see that he survives and comes back as beautiful human being. Long may he live.
This man is a genius and a treasure.
He is so honest, it breaks my heart to hear that he was a junkie, I am glad that he survived and still made beautiful music, love you Kevin, always have always will♥️♥️

Looking really well Kevin and a very interesting interview. Congratulations on the new re-mastered album ..absolutely brilliant. I bought my Brother a copy and sent it over to him in Ireland for his Birthday and he can't stop playing it (neither can I). Met you at the 100 club a couple of years ago and still fondly remember it well.

A lot of us didn't miss the music at the time even if the press did, love this album and always will.
I bought this album in 1999 *because* NME slated it. I didn't trust them. Never forgotten the songs. The inlay (remember them) explained exactly what the album was about what it meant to Kevin Rowland. Music that you like is more than sound, it has a human accompaniment that you can't hear, but can feel - it can be anything. Not many albums have that but this one does. I remember an interview afterwards where the interviewer asked "Why did you dress like a woman" and Kevin said "Because I felt like it so what". Says more about the interviewer than the artist.

One of the great British songwriters of all time had certainly earned the right to make a covers album if he wanted to. The remaster sounds fab.

An album I bought when it came out and the pink reissue. An album of great beauty and he’s absolutely right. Some of the comments about the image would be a hate crime now.

Which is everything wrong with Britain. The comments were all taking the piss, as Brits do (or used to before this wrongthink nonsense). He's British. He absolutely knew people would take the piss in the press. And they did. And what I read was HILARIOUS! "Put it away, love" was one line I read that gave my girlfriend and I years of laughter at the reference.
Meanwhile, you lefty idiots are ok with real crimes going on with impunity. Islamic rape gangs among you, and it's A-OK, as long as nobody makes fun of anyone for being a ridiculous bastard.

My Beauty is my favourite Dexy's/Kevin Rowland album. The songs on it are great. I prefer the original mix though.

In the video, I love the scene of the family Rowland stone, in particular, the film format. Also Kevin's little jig on the streets of New York. I also love the intro. Original.
