    I really like Kutovakika’s patterns. She has a lot of different textured and cabled knitting patterns available. They are well written and she makes videos where she explains the techniques used, so that’s really great if you’re a beginner at cable knitting. I love that you’re getting into knitting, yet another hobby we share! ❤️

      The moment she mentioned she wants to knit cabled sweaters I jumped to the comment section to recommend Kutovakika's patterns, but then I saw your comment 😃 The video tutorials are super helpful and I find them quite entertaining as well!

      I second that. I really enjoyed knitting the salty days sweater. The fit was awful on me as I’d never done a drop shoulder before and it’s not a good look for my body type (broad shoulders and narrow hips) but I still love it and wear it anyways.

    I recently made the arctic lights sweater with drops karisma held together with drops kid silk. It turned out so gorgeous and was way easier then I expected! The pattern was clear and there are also a few videos explaining all the different types of cables if needed

    For sewing new grass look into ‘chitting’. Basically, sewing lots of seed into a pile of compost and when it is well sprouted toss it out onto the bare patch. Then it is already grass before it is in its final location. Gives it a good head start in the peripheral seasons.

    I love that you've been enjoying knitting so much! And excited to see your upcoming cabled projects!!
    When I'm picking a pattern on Ravelry and I'm not familiar with the designer (you'll probably have a handful of go-to designers at some point) I rely on the comments and the projects tabs - it's super helpful to read the experiences of others! (Wish I could recommend a cable sweater pattern but I somehow haven't made one yet!)
    Also: your hair is looking so good! 💖

    I second @Karinatimeaknits recommendation of Kutovakika. The Arctic Light Sweater has to be my favorite of her designs and it has a video series for the tutorial. I highly recommend it as a first cable knit!

    9:00 I got super excited to hear you talk about eliminating polyester/nylon and transitioning to natural fibers. I'm currently sewing my entire wardrobe/undergarments using undyed linen, cotton and wool fibers. I also purchased 20 skeins of undyed wool yarn with a plan to make a sweater dress (fingers crossed). I really like the 658 Robe avec Col amovible sweater dress but it is discontinued and I cannot find the English version of the pattern😩.

    I recommend the Portulaca cardigan by Carol Feller, it features in a Craftsy class where she teaches you step by step. It also helps with sizing so you make every stitch worth it and know your garment will fit like a glove!

    Im in the US and the only language I speak is english, but the very first knitting project I did was from a youtube video pattern that was not english at all but had english subtitles. It was a very cute outfit for a baby and had a hood with little ears on it, and also had cable stitches on both sides of the front. May I just say again, it was my VERY FIRST knitting project I ever did, and it turned out great, so i can personally confirm that its not as hard as it seems ❤️

    Slugs in the garden tend to eat bulbs. Be aware! I have lost so many tulips, and other bulbs. I could not keep ahead of those things in my garden. So I don't mess with them anymore, sadly! I'm leary of slug bait as I have a cat I care for very much and won't risk it. Good luck!

    It can be helpful to have an instructional video with your pattern. If your desired sweater doesnt have that, you can typically find many videos explaining the cable technique. Just type in the code(M1L for example).
    Good luck choosing!

    Be careful knitting with superwash! It’s great to be able machine wash it, but superwash yarn is notorious for stretching like crazy when wet! Any time I knit with SW I use a mohair with it which always helps keep it the size you want it to be, instead of it turning into a dress when you go to block it! 😅

    ooh that Drops wool sale is still going on here in my area and i am SO ordering that karisma yarn. Still undecided which one of the countless free drops sweaters i'm gonna do, cause i'm also very much drawn to those norwegian colorwork ones. Also, i don't really want to spend more than 100 bucks, and my fav yarn shop also has a sale on Viking Nordlys (norwegian brand, the most bautiful sock yarn with color gradient). It's so hard to choose, even though i know exactly that the next sale will most likely come before i've used up the yarn imma buy this time - _-

    I am doing the folklore cardigan at the moment and using the spreadsheets shared by Nora Knits. I am finding it dreadfully dull though. 😂. I am an experienced knitting and this pattern is just too basic to keep me interested. Even though it looks complicated it’s been written to be the most basic construction ever. It’s 3 rows of essentially ribbing, knitting the knits and purling the purls and then one row or purl the purls and cable the knits. And repeat for ever 😂. I really love the final look but I defiantly need something more challenging to keep me engaged.

    Lucy, do you have any concerns with soy consumption and having a boy? I've read for years that soy foods can mess up normal hormonal function in men/boys... and reduce testosterone. I'm not being judgmental, but was just curious if you have any concerns over that?

    • @Loepsie
      @Loepsie  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I'm not worried. He'd have to consume huge amounts of soy for that to be a concern, normal use hasn't been found to affect hormonal function. We eat a very varied diet and soy is a fantastic protein source, but definitely not our only one :)

    • @dottiewi661
      @dottiewi661 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As soy/tofu is a lot more prevalent in East Asian cooking than in traditional western/european cooking, I assume, if it really was harmful, they wouldn’t be eating it, as their doctors would have advised against it? So, I think it’s fine.
