I have to agree for this era. Gretz played in a different era. The talent and conditioning of the players on all teams is much much better today. Many of the players on teams of the 80's and 90's would not make todays NHL rosters. Their idea of conditioning and getting into shape was to cut out eating cheeseburgers , fries and drinking a cold one in August. Taking nothing away from Crosby, he's an all time great, but these comparisons to Gretzky are ludicrous. Not to mention that there's some debate as to whether Sid is even the best on his team. Malkin has had just as good a career as Sid.
Dave It's fair to compare. Gretzky's numbers speak for themselves. And before anyone compares the game from Gretzky's era to today, all I can say is that if hockey was so easy back then, everyone would have done what Gretzky did. The only players in history comparable to Gretzky are Lemieux and Orr. Feels great to have watch the most dominate player to ever play the game besides Mario, but era wise gretz would have a hard time keeping up with the kid. Or put Sid back then he'd average 5+ points per game against those beer league tendys.
A lot of people put Gretzky as the best because of his ppg, that was YEARS ago when there was way more goals. Crosby is the best ever because he dominated a generation more than anyone else did. Gretzky was handed a team with 7 other Hall of Famers and won 4 cups. Crosby carried a team to win 3.
Master Shifu Oveckin is a much better goal scorer than Crosby.7 times 50+ goal seasons and 6 Maurice Richard trophies.Sid only had one 50+ goal season.
I think lemeiux is the best, hell gretzky retired in 98 playing against guys who would mold the sport into what it is today, but thats why i pick lemieux. He had a 90 point season after he retired and all the bullshit he went through he could still produce top numbers in a changing game.
Comparing players of any sport today and 20/30 or more years ago is ridiculous. No mater their titles and remarkable accomplishments of their time, they wouldn't be able to keep up with a great player in recent years. Sport by itself has developed so much over time and we know so much more about the human body, plus the competition only gets more fierce... Most people who won medals then wouldn't be nearly as successful now. It goes without saying that 3 teams with a great player is much different than 10 with 3 great players each. Sidney Crosby is the best hockey player ever no matter the numbers and yes some others come very close, but in my opinion most of them are playing now too.
I think in terms of eras this is the best era of hockey in terms of talent. So if the best player in the best era of hockey is not the g.o.a.t then who is. I think Crosby is the best of all time because putting him in Gretzkys era Crosby would be the more dominant player. Can't say the same for Gretzky in today's game.
Crosby was the leading scorer only twice in his 11 playing seasons.Gretzky was the leading scorer 10 times.Crosby doesn't come close. And Crosby was the leading playoff scorer only once.Gretzky 6 Times.
Jeffrey Kaufmann Because there was no balance in the game back then. Over 90% of the players back then were literal plugs with skates on, then there's the goaltending, game structure, play setups now. If you were a good player back then you literally dominated the league because most of the others were pylons. The 4th liners and subs we have in the game would've dominated hockey in that era, think about it.
Keshaun Scott Crosby did not dominate his era.He won the art Ross trophy only twice.Even jagr was more dominant.he won it 5 times.Gretzky won it 10 times.Crosby won the hart trophy only twice.Ovechkin three times.Gretzky nine times. You can't transfer Crosby to another era.Any female tennis player in the top 100 today would destroy the best female player that played in the 1930s.According to your twisted logic any female tennis player in the top 100 should be considered one of the greatest of all time. When Gretzky was in his prime he had sometimes 50-79 more points than 2nd guy.And had Gretzky not been traded to Los Angeles and remained an Oiler he would have ended up with at least 3300 points.
It's a new league, Gretzky was amazing but he wouldn't last in this era. That's why Crosby is the great one of the nhl today. Mcdavid is good but he's not Crosby.
@@jonatan832 Gretzky won ten Art Ross Trophies. Crosby only twice in a era where he didn't need to get 140 points to win an Art Ross. Gretzky led the league in Goals and Assists five times. Something that Ovechkin and Crosby will never do.
He's a top 10 all time player, maybe top 5 or 6. He would have to play the best hockey of his life for another 7-9 seasons to squeeze into the top 4. The top 3 almost unreachable. 1 - Wayne Gretzky 2 - Bobby Orr 3 - Mario Lemieux 4 - Gordie Howe 5 - Crosby/Ovechkin/Messier/Yzerman - just personal preference.

Max Power he is. Explain how it’s “absolutely ridiculous”
People claim Ovi is the next great one but Sid has more points in 160 less games
@@oigloriousoi Ovi is best of the best!!!!!!!! Sid is very good player, but Ovi is better much more psychical.
@@jalachkasascha what are you smoking? I'll make it easy for you....Sid has played 180 less games and had more points than Ovi all they way up until he had surgery this year. So not only is Ovi only 12 points ahead of Sid but has played almost 200 more games. That tells you all you need to know
He is the greatest of all time.
Bite my foreskin off how bout
Feels great to have watch the most dominate player to ever play the game besides Mario, but era wise gretz would have a hard time keeping up with the kid. Or put Sid back then he'd average 5+ points per game against those beer league tendys.
Nathan Mcdonald Crosbys career would be ended from all the tough guys back then. Plus Crosby would NEVER score more than 170 points back then.
Jackson Unreal you're right. He'd get 300 points back then.
TH-cam Sucks lol read my comment I'm right? Lol. I said he wouldn't get more than 170 points
TH-cam Sucks what art thou smoking?
Jackson Unreal and I'm telling you that you're wrong. He'd be at least 2 leagues ahead of what the NHL was in Gretzky's era.
you should of put the play where he toys with speza behind the net then feed letang fot the goal. that was unreal. great video tho. loved it
Lmao yeah ok 👌
Yeahhhh!!!! Sid the kid!!!! He's the best!
Remember the time when people argue that Ovechkin was a better hockey player ?
Who's he?
Master Shifu Oveckin is a much better goal scorer than Crosby.7 times 50+ goal seasons and 6 Maurice Richard trophies.Sid only had one 50+ goal season.
Nope
Jeffrey Kaufmann there’s more to being a good hockey player than just scoring. Take their Stanley cup totals for proof
Chris Marrello sure Pittsburgh is a better team but that doesn't refute what I said about ovechkin.
8:58 Is my favorite goal of his
only two players I've ever been emotionally invested in: Steve Yzerman & Sidney Crosby
you just had to add linkin park didnt you.
This was a great way to present this argument.
Great video, dude! 👍

That’s the funniest caption I’ve ever hear

Sidney Crosby is the best hockey player ever no matter the numbers and yes some others come very close, but in my opinion most of them are playing now too.
there should be a new league called sydney crosby
yeah , where they cry all day like a pussy
brigitte backes and set up plays and score like a fucking boss
Because 🥅 where less. Padded in your way smaller and way less
William Stewart A good player cannot dominate his era.Only excellent players can dominate an era no matter what the era is.
I put crosby number 3 in the world, following lemiux and gretzky
Never be afraid to put new and more talented greatness!!!!!
The ENTIRE LEAGUE was headhunting Crosby for years. Until they realized it wasn’t going to stop him.
Alien from another planet
It’s generations: Gretzky, Crosby, McDavid
ALL CANADIAN
It's a new league, Gretzky was amazing but he wouldn't last in this era. That's why Crosby is the great one of the nhl today. Mcdavid is good but he's not Crosby.
Then why nobody got close to 3k points like Gretzky if it was that easy in that era? You are such a dumbass lol.
@@rudy1999 No would be nowhere near 3000 points if he played today
@@jonatan832 maybe not but if players today played back then they still wouldn't be anywhere close to 3k
@@parkerellingson8608 we can never find out
@@jonatan832 Gretzky won ten Art Ross Trophies. Crosby only twice in a era where he didn't need to get 140 points to win an Art Ross.
Gretzky led the league in Goals and Assists five times. Something that Ovechkin and Crosby will never do.
Great vid love the title!!!!!!!!!
Gretzgey better Orr is better and McDavid is just as good
GOAT!!
He's a top 10 all time player, maybe top 5 or 6. He would have to play the best hockey of his life for another 7-9 seasons to squeeze into the top 4. The top 3 almost unreachable.
1 - Wayne Gretzky
2 - Bobby Orr
3 - Mario Lemieux
4 - Gordie Howe
5 - Crosby/Ovechkin/Messier/Yzerman - just personal preference.
I would put Howe in 2nd place because of his longevity. He was a top 3 scorer for 20 years.
Goat
Sid is Ungodly good.
Putting the puck off of Hanks head 😂😂
